  1. Was Gooden driving it?
  2. Lance Armstrong?
  3. and Corey hasn't thrown in the towel down the stretch he's almost batting .200 for September.
  4. How can they go .500 during a 7 game losing streak?
  5. GMJ as a stopgap CF/4th OFer? He signed with Texas for $1.1 mill in '05.
  6. But as has been discussed ad nauseam, there is an enormous difference. Corey at least has a chance to put up better numbers. Neifi has no chance. He's crap, has always been crap, and always will be crap. If people don't understand the difference, there's not much point in discussing the matter further. I do understand you are comparing a back-up (Perez) to a starter (Patterson) and their career OBP is nearly the same (slight advantage to Perez). There are too many "potentials" on this team and not enough producers.
  7. I agree. That injury could have happened to anyone. It was a fluke. It didn't happen because Nomar is fragile. He just slipped. No amount of conditioning can avoid freak injuries like that. The injury caused the slip, the slip did not cause the injury. The injury was caused in part by Nomar being susceptible to "freak" injuries. He's going to be an enormous risk next year. If he comes back, you have to have Ronny available to back him up. You can't afford another $2.5m .300 OBP in the lineup. Corey makes more than that and .300 is a bit high.
  8. That just says that the stuff is still there, but he's not as sharp with his location. Sometimes he's missing off the plate, but sometimes he's catching way too much of the zone. Wouldn't that statement be true of most pitchers who's ERA is high?
  9. He been that way for the past 4 season. The last 3 he has been 1 run better the 2nd half.
  10. Maddux has given up 97 earned runs in 210.2 innings. There are a ton of different calculations you could do. But, if he were to pitch 5 and 6 shutout innings in each of his next two starts, respectively, his ERA would be down around 3.95 if I calculated correctly. If he gave up 1 run total in either of those outings, he would be sitting at 3.99. Which would put his post-allstar ERA around 3.10 mark.
  11. If he pitches like yesterday. Yes.
  12. So you're saying maybe the Cubs kept the right 1st baseman?
  13. Maybe they're hoping he'll have a Wood/Prior injury and decide to retire? If anyone needs skipped/shutdown it should be Prior then Z. Since they are the future and this season is over shut them down and let the kids take their spots.
  14. Based on post all-star numbers. Z over everyone: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/teams/batting?team=chc&cat=OPS&season=2005&split=182&seasonType=2&type=reg
  15. Pushes him up .306 ba for the 2nd half of the year. That's gotta be a mistake. Everyone knows he had a great month of April, and hasn't done spit since then. Fred what's the Cubs' record when Neifi gets at least 3 hits??
  16. Maddux's ERA for the 2nd half down to 3.54 overall he's at 4.16 What are you using as a measuring point for the beginning of the second half ? All-Star break (espn sorts pre/post AS)
  17. Someone the other day was talking about Lieber and Maddux and how they mirror each other: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats/pitching?seasonType=2&type=reg&sort=ERA&split=0&season=2005&pos=all&hand=a&league=mlb&ageMin=17&ageMax=51&qual=true&count=41
  18. Maddux's ERA for the 2nd half down to 3.54 overall he's at 4.16
  19. Pushes him up .306 ba for the 2nd half of the year.
  20. Change to IU fans and welcome to the basketball season. I wonder if Hep can coach b-ball? I don't think IU is a bad team, maybe below average but are well-coached (can't believe that is being said about IU football). So I guess all I can say... get used to the defeat.
  21. Oh come on swordsman just say it like Robbie Gordon did on national TV.
  22. Don't they play day games at Wrigley anymore?
  23. Does he take the place of beer, wine or liquor? Wine
  24. But wood gets injured!!!!! DONT YOU KNOW THIS! AMEN! The year Wood, Prior, and Zambrano ALL stay healthy as starters will be our year. I still like the Wood-Dempster 8-9 inning combo, though. Think about World Series game 7, and both Wood and Prior are available out of the pen. Dare I say a healthy Wood-Prior-Zambrano>Maddux-Glavine-Smoltz? It is a little premature to make that statement.
