  1. Unless Favre's torn bicep tendon is significantly better, I don't see him making much of an impact no matter what he chooses to do.
  2. Albert Pujols is the same guy, but better, we don't hate him. We respect him, in fact he's my favorite player to watch in the game today. But, he doesn't behave like a baby at all times. This shouldn't be too difficult to understand. Pujols should act more mature than Braun considering he's what 39-40 years old.
  3. There's some speculation that Wells could remain in the rotation when Zambrano returns. If that happens, then Marshall could move to the pen. Would that mean the end of the road for Neal Cotts? :-k Link
  4. I took one a couple of years ago and loved it.
  5. How can an ump miss a pepto bismal pink bat that flies through the zone?
  6. Did you mean that might need to staple his arm together to get through the season?
  7. Thomas looked ok defensively. There wasn't anything that stood out as good or bad either way. He hit the ball well. I wasn't seated where I could tell exactly what pitches he was hitting. Well, I probably could have, but I was visiting with the people around me. He got his hits and all them were hit hard. Barney had a good game, but I think he got his hits pretty early in the count. Nothing stood out on him defensively. I guess the same as Thomas. Wright didn't get a hit tonight. He did throw out Gorkys who tried to stretch a broken bat single into a double. His throw was right on the money. It wasn't a particularly hard play, but it did require him to charge the ball quickly and make an on target throw to second. He executed it perfectly. Clevenger was 2-4 and got a triple on a hit that went deep into the gap. I thought one of his outs was going out of the park, but the Braves fielder made a nice play running to the wall with his back to the infield. I didn't get to see Castillo play but a few innings in the rain shortened game on Tuesday.
  8. Fun game in Mississippi tonight. Sandberg signed some autographs before the game. Thomas looked very much like a hitter. He also showed some ability to use both fields. He got hits to both right and left field. Barney looked good too. Robnett looked bad. It may have been a bad game for him, but his swings at curveballs reminded me of Cerano from Major League. Maybe he should get Jobu some rum. Mateo was bringing the heat tonight. The scoreboard gun had him consistently in the 92-93 range, and from what I've heard it's a slow gun. The entertainment came in the 8th when a Braves hitter...can't remember who exactly was called out on strikes. He argued a bit and told the up to off. The ump tossed him. Phillip Wellemen (The Braves manager) then went off on the umpire and had to be restrained by the base umpire. He kept calling the home plate ump a POS. Then he spit on homeplate when he left. I was hoping for another complete blow-up with a rosin bag toss and a taking of the bases, but it never happened.
  9. Bruce is also reporting 4-6 weeks. Link. That prognosis seems to imply that it's a simple dislocation without any major tears or other complications. If so, that time table appears correct. He'll probably need a rehab assignment, so my guess is he'll be back between the All-Star break and August 1. I don't see Hendry pulling a major deal before then. The Cubs could look at Mike Lamb or Morgan Ensberg. Let them go to Iowa for a week or two and see if they warrant a call-up to fill the gap. Ray Durham also has been mentioned, and he might be worth a look as well. I think finding a decent trade target at this stage of the season just isn't going to happen.
  10. http://i2.cdn.turner.com/si/2008/writers/frank_deford/06/18/cubbies/Piniella.jpg Lou: "Uh, what's with the negativity?" 40+ years of following the Cubs (for me); that's what is with the negativity. When I saw that injury I had exactly the same feeling as when Nomar went down. But what do I know? Gee I am glad I have other things to do. http://www.metstoday.com/wp-content/lou-piniella-signal.jpg Lou: "Alright, son. I just got twothings to say to that. First, how can you not like a team that is pitching Captain America tonight? Second, I still don't know why that leggy broad is in our clubhouse, but if she stays much longer, she's gonna learn why they call me 'Sweet Lou'."
  11. I appreciate the sentiment, but I know Bhogg has at least 2 or 3 that are much better.

  13. He had worked out of some jams all game long. I don't think they had much faith he could go unscathed through the order another time.
  14. The Cubs try to bounce back from a heartbreaking loss. http://consequenceofsound.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/07/bonnie_tyler08.jpg Bonnie:"Where have all good men gone And where are all the gods? Ballgame!" Go Cubs!
  15. I would think 6-8 weeks if it just popped out and back in without any other significant injuries around it. The biggest issue is that often once one pops out, it is prone to do it again.
  16. The Rangers might be persuaded to part with Blalock. His defense at third isn't all that great any more as he's been relegated to 1b/DH for Texas. Another possibility would be to look to the Astros for Tejada. He also isn't as good as he used to be, but the Astros might part with him for cheap.
  17. My guess is dislocated shoulder. That would be a minimum 6 weeks and could extend to 12 weeks. If he's out that long, the Cubs would have to find another bat for the line-up. We don't currently have anyone reliable enough to trust at 3b. I'm not exactly sure where we could look for someone to fill in there.
  18. That looks horrible. He grabbed his wrist, but my guess is that it's a dislocated shoulder. That would probably be a 6 week injury at the minimum depending on the severity.
  19. It looks bad. More to follow.
  20. I wonder why? Could it have something to do with the 4 pitch walk and giving up 2 triples to bad hitters? One of those triples should have been caught.
