  1. WHITE SOX 2005 VANCE They won inspite of their small ballish ways not because of them!
  2. Giving up outs are only smart when the hitter at the plate is likely to make an out anyway. In most cases, it's not a smart move. A simple run expectancy chart can illustrate that.
  3. Fired because he told Loria to basically screw off. If he did the same thing to Fitzsimmons, I'd probably want to marry the guy. To me it shows a lack of good judgement. I'd like a manager that shows better judgement, on and off the field. Also, he was fired because he couldn't get along with anyone in the front office which is counter productive.
  4. He's working on trading vance to another board I hear the deal is Vance to WSI for Jabroni and a troll to be named later. :D Don't I have 10-5 rights or something? I do know that I have a ten message board no-trade list, and WSI is on it. I'd probably approve a trade to RedsZone or Newberg Report.
  5. The Girardi slobber-fest is becoming sickening. There are better candidates than Showalter Jr.
  6. This is a move of comic genius! Thank-you ESPN. Please pair with Joe Morgan!
  7. If the NL is as bad as you say, then his below 500 record is more of an indictment against him. Considering he lost more than he won, I don't see how he has in anyway earned the term a winning manager.
  8. Actually, I usually respond to opinions I do have a problem with. I'm not sold on McDonough, but I'm going to give him benefit of the doubt for the time being. Your crticisms might carry more merit if you made them without the hyperbole and insults. Right now, reading your posts remind me more of what it must have been like if Archie Bunker was a Cubs fan.
  9. Gee, Vance.... who might that be ?? Hahaha. Vance, you've got to pick. Give us your pick to click on Girardi, Brenly, or Lou. Because my gut tells me it's gonna be one of those guys. . I gave my pick in another thread, but will do it here as well. If I'm choosing those three, I reluctantly take Brenly. I don't want Lou in any capacity. I'm worried about the issues surrounding Girardi and I don't want a Showalter-esque control freak. I don't think Brenly is a great choice, but I could at least be optimistic that some of Len's beliefs have rubbed off on him. I could also hope that like Dierker, he learned some from his time in the booth.
  10. I'd throw the name out Girardi out there but unfortunetly I'm the only one on the board who thinks Joe deserves credit for fostering the development of the young players down there, and bringing out their "talents" So IMO, there are managers that can bring out the best in players. Joe is one. Brenly I see as a guy who needs established talented vets to succeed. Did Girardi really win without talent? His team was still below .500. They had a nice run, and surely out-performed expectations, but they didn't exactly win. So, if winning without talent is the criteria here, let's throw out Girardi, because while he exceeded expectations, he didn't exactly win.
  11. I don't think Hendry would go for an all righty lineup like that though. Then get Drew for CF.
  12. Girardi is not the best available. He may the best among the ones the Cubs will interview, but there are better ones available.
  13. I'm confused, cubette? What the hell did Sosa have to do with whether Grace should work for the Cubs? Nothing. I liked Grace as a player. He's a hack as an announcer, and I think I'd rather have Dick Pole as manager over Grace.
  14. Why call him out? Because he chooses not to believe an anonymous post on a message board? As I said earlier, you may or may not know this person. We don't know you nor have we any other form of relationship nor do we have a posting history to judge the veracity of your claim. Now, if I knew you in a personal way, and knew you as a trustworthy person, that would lend credence to your claims. If you had a long history of posting here and either you had provided inside information or had a history of productively contributing to this community, we might find you more believable. But, as it is, none of those apply. It's not that we're saying your lying, it's just other than your word...and we don't know who you are....we have little to back up your claim. If you're right, great. Thanks for sharing. But I don't see why you get offended that we question you. Now, if you want to provide some facts that would back who you are and who your source is, then we might find even more reason to believe you. (I can fully understand why you wouldn't want to do that)....but since right now you are a new, anonymous poster...you could be telling the truth, or you could be a juvenile seeking attention.Right now, it's more prudent to be skeptical.
  15. What are you wearing? Mr. Foley, leave me alone.
  16. Please don't take our skepticism as an insult. But considering this is your first time to post, we don't know how reliable you are. You may very well know this man and if so, yes, I'd trust his assessment over most others. Then again, you could be making it all up. I'm not saying you are, but since we neither know you nor know for certain that this conversation took place, we have doubts. It's not uncommon for bogus claims to be made on message boards, lest we forget that we had it on good authority that Furcal was signed only to find out two hours later he was a Dodger. (Oh, the irony there!) So, I appreciate you sharing this. I remain skeptical for the time being.
  17. Here'sthe transcript of Larry Beinfest's comments on Girardi's firing. I think if you read it carefully, it's clear that Girardi didn't work well with the people in Florida. It sounds to me that he was implying that Girardi was not good at collaborating with the rest of the baseball people in the Marlins organization. I'm not sure that is the type of person who would make a good choice. I'm also certain that these issues will likely keep Hendry from pursuing Girardi.
  18. Piniella: Manager Girardi: Bench Coach McLendon: Pitching Coach Hugh Douglas: Hitting Coach Mike Ditka: Bullpen Coach World Series, here we come! No. You must find room for Lee Elia in there somewhere. And Larry Bowa too!
  19. They won't give up their first round pick, that's for certain, but not their 2nd - 4th round picks. Of course, they might do away with compensatory picks completely. But we could get an extra first rounder if Pierre is a Type A FA. If Ramirez opts out, he'd definitely be a Type A.
  20. Well, if we're going for fire and discipline, might as well choose Piniella over Girardi. Hell, get Lloyd McClendon in here!
  21. If the Cubs are going to be sold, I hope I hurry up and win the PowerBall, so I can try to get in on this action!
  22. While the Cubs may be put up for sale in the next five months, there is absolutely no way a sale will go through in the next five months.
  23. If I felt Murton could handle RF, how about Jones to the Phillies for Burell and cash?
  24. I'd probably go with Brenly. I don't like the issues and baggage that belong to Girardi. I'd hope that some of Len's knowlede had at least rubbed off on Brenly and that he might consider things like run expectancy in making decisions. What issues? Him telling Loria to quit yelling at the umpires? It's Girardi's job to communicate with the umpires, not the owner. thats not necessarilly "baggage." I'd also have to have a stronger endorsement of Brenly other than he's sat with a PBP guy the past two years. It probably won't be either one of these guys anyway. No. It seems pretty well known that Girardi didn't listen to suggestions or directives from the GM either. . What didn't he listen to? Maybe I just haven't seen confirmation of this, I believe you. Is their hard evidence of this? Or just speculation with the firing? I don't have specifics, but after the Loria incident, there were reports that he had feuded with the GM as well. I don't think the Marlins ever released a laundry list as part of the press releases, but I think there's sufficient reasons to believe that Girardi was going to do things his way regardless of what his superiors thought. Well then, I think it is a little unfair to claim he has "baggage", without any specifics. The organization will leak anything they want, in order to justify the firing. Without knowing for sure I just think it is all speculation. But it's enough speculation to make me have reservations about hiring him, especially considering I haven't seen a compelling reason to hire him other than one season in which he guided a young team to an under 500 record.

In the Cubs case this might be a good thing. No? Maybe. But I'm not sure his control-freak tactics are. While I may not agree with everything the Cubs FO does, having a manager who thumbs his nose at them and then demands extreme compliance in the clubhouse may not be the best mix.
