  1. Kidding aside, does anyone think that the Cubs could at this point? Adding Hudson to the mix would be amazing. I don't think we'll make a splash with someone like Hudson, no. I think a lower option like Wolf or Maddux could happen. I think we might add to the bullpen by getting into the mix for Fuentes. Other than that, I think we're set.
  2. I agree with that it wasn't a response in that Hendry has been targeting Harden for awhile. On the other hand, he might have stepped it up a bit. I can't remember where, but I linked an article where a MLB source said the Cubs would react aggressively to any moves made in the NL Central. Well, hell yeah we responded!
  3. Time to kill this thread unless we still think Jimbo can land Hudson too.
  4. Is it just me, but somehow I figure this deal has been in the works, but that Jim was trying to do it without Gallagher. He might have been offering Marshall instead. After Sabathia went to the Brewers, Hendry stepped up to include Gallagher if the A's would give up Gaudin as well. I may be off on that, but I wouldn't be surprised if that's how it went.
  5. Looking at his numbers he can be useful. He can be the long man or even spot start if needed. I'd have rather given up Marshall than Gallagher, but whatcha gonna do? Still a good deal. I would have too. Losing Gallagher is tough for me because he was a personal favorite of mine. At the same time, taking that emotional part out of it, this trade is a great deal. We gave up one great piece. The rest of the guys either won't be missed (Patterson, Donaldson) or were a spare part (Murton) with the Cubs. It could be a good move for the A's as well. Murton will get a chance to play. Gallagher will get a chance to pitch every fifth day without worrying about losing his spot in the rotation. Patterson may also get some playing time. I think this is the best deal we could have hoped for. Now we just have to hope and pray Harden stays healthy or at least is healthy come October.
  6. Other than Harden's injury risk, this deal is HUGE! How about we follow this up with a Cedeno + Marquis + prospect for Burnett?
  7. I was taking a nap and woke up to this thread as it went down. It's like I woke-up and then had a wet dream! Wow!
  8. On a side note, Mr. Gallagher if you're reading this thread. Wish Sean well for us as he moves to Oakland. I'll still root for him in his starts there.
  9. My feelings on the deal are this. Giving up Gallagher hurts. I liked him as a fan and a pitcher. But, you gave to give up something to get something. I don't think we'll miss Murton or Patterson. Donaldson is the type of player you expect to lose in these deals. Gallagher is the player that hurts. But getting Harden will be huge. If Harden stays healthy, Zambrano, Harden, Lilly, and Dempster make a good looking playoff rotation.
  10. I have gone alone. I prefer not to. I really don't go very often.
  11. Yea, a bunt down the first base line with Fielder and Sabathia colliding would make for a regular comedy routine. That much fat slapping together is likely to cause a grease fire.
  12. It's exteremly tough to find that kind of data at rookie league games - MiLB.com lists it in their box scores for AAA and there are announcers and many fans at games at other levels who could keep track of that but that doesn't happen in the AZL. That info would have to come from the coaching staff, probably into a local Chicago rag's story on Hill. Or maybe AZPhil at the Cub Reporter could provide it, had he taken note of it. AZ Phil does a pretty good job reporting on such things.
  13. Oh come on, C.C.'s not THAT fat, don't hate. But with Prince out there, well, that's a whole lotta fat.
  14. As has been pointed out, there's not enough roster spots for that to happen. Also, the Rangers are going to want pitching for Bradely. They will likely ask for Gallagher. When the Cubs say no, they will insist on Marshall and might settle for Veal. Any other pitcher we would offer would be too far away from major league ready for them to deal. So, if we go for Bradley, he's going to cost either one of the chips needed to get a Harden, Hudson, Bedard, etc. OR He's going to take away from the little pitching depth that we have.
  15. If we ended up with Gray, I'd need new pants. That being said, I'm not counting on needing those pants anytime soon.
  16. Harden carries huge risks. I'd do it only because I'm only hoping he's healthy through the post season. Anything after that we got out of him would be gravy.
  17. I've seen you post about Bradley a lot. I don't really want to derail the thread, but where would he play? Right now, it's going to take most of our chips to get a front-line starter. Adding to the offense, while nice, isn't the priority. Bradley can't play CF any more, at least by the accounts I get out of Texas. In fact, he's had to rest the knees several times this year, and that's just with him Dhing. I like Bradley, but if we got him, we'd have to shift Fukudome to CF and play him in RF.
  18. There's been some nice finds, there. But it is a hit and miss list. Cabrera is a superstar among the Latin American guys, but the rest aren't anything exciting.
  19. Even with Bedard's character concerns, I'd have interest. But not if the Mariners really are trying to recoup the entire price they paid for him. The Mariners gave up five pretty good prospects. I'd offer something along the lines of Pie (or Colvin), Hill, and Atkins; and then see where the deal went. Bedard with the press about his surliness and mood swings and some injury concerns isn't perceived the same as he was in the offseason.
  20. I wonder if there were similar headlines about the Braves last year when they traded for Tex... :-k
