  1. The Astros have a say because they are the home team. We may not like it, and we may think it's stupid of them not to go ahead and move the series, but as home team they should have a great deal of input in where they choose to play.
  2. I had some really good seats for these games too. :(
  3. Bruce mentions that Atlanta has been discussed and that Houston didn't want to use St. Louis since the Cubs were already in town and they believed that would give the Cubs an unfair advantage. Link.
  4. Not only that, but they only seem to be planning FOR Ike, not its after-effects. Who's to say that Houston (MMP) will have power after it blows through? The area won't be flooded? Lots of fans won't be stuck having to fix their homes? Or the airports will be in good enough condition for the Cubs to fly into? I think he's waited because he wants to see what Ike does. If it comes in at Galveston, I doubt they would play at all, even on Sunday or Monday. If it keeps tracking eastward and comes in around Orange, TX or even Cameron Parish, Louisiana then Houston probably could play in Houston on Sunday and Monday. By not moving the games, McLain leaves open those options. I'm not agreeing with his decision, but I think that's where it's coming from.
  5. Kansas City would have a rain out too. Atlanta makes the most sense if the Astros are able to fly out. Atlanta would work for me, as I could easily make the trip there. I would like to know soon, so I can start driving that direction.
  6. It also seems that the Astros are reluctant to move the games elsewhere. Here is a quote from McLain. Link.
  7. Well, I'm not going to Houston tonight. My plans are waiting to see what they announce with the remaining games. I'll stay here tonight, go to work tomorrow, and then decide what to do. If they do play a DH there on Sunday and another game on Monday, I'm going to try to make it. I called the hotel so that they wouldn't cancel the final days of my pre-paid room just because I'm not coming tonight. In all liklihood, this is going to end up being a lot of money thrown away by me. Of course, it's still minor compared to the damage to property many people on the Gulf Coast will experience, so I'll take it that way. Of course, I still need my roof repaired because of Gustav. Hurricanes are starting to piss me off.
  8. The latest from the Houston Chronicle... Link.
  9. I'm getting very little work done in the classroom today as I keep coming to the computer to check this thread, the Houston Chronicle, and the Astros web site. When I leave this site at 10:30, I won't have the means to check on anything until 2:30, so I was hoping to know something by then.
  10. I think that may be some of the reason why the Astros have hesitated in moving the series. Friday night and Saturday as the storm passes will be rough, but other than the coastal areas hit by the hard winds and storm surge, they may anticipate that things in Houston proper will return to order. I'm still waiting to hear so I can make my decision.
  11. Here'sthe latest from the Houston Chronicle on what's going on.
  12. I'm not sure they could get the Superdome configured for baseball in such a short time. It's a possibility, but I don't think it could happen on short notice.
  13. I'm hoping for the Phillies to sweep since my focus is squarely on the division.
  14. I'll be shocked if they play there. I just checked the Houston Chronicle site and the Houston mayor has asked that employers let their employees stay home on Friday. They have ordered evacuations for the low lying areas of Harris county, but the mayor says there's no reason to evacuate the city. I'm still fairly certain they don't want a bunch of visitors coming that way, though. I'm still waiting about making a final decision until I see how the games are scheduled. Since I've paid the money, if they play Friday afternoon at 1, I'll probably go to that game and then get the hell out...or at least go stay with a friend that lives a little bit north of there and wait and see if I could go back for any games on Sunday.
  15. I just checked the Astros site and there's nothing new yet. I'm the same way with priceline. I didn't purchase the insurance when I named my price, so I'm out my money as well.
  16. I'm still waiting to see what's going to happen. I'm packed and loaded so I can head down there after school if they are going to play tomorrow. I'll continue through the day to make my preparations for the substitute and all that jazz. If they moved the games to Atlanta, I'd probably hastily change plans and try to go there. If they move them somewhere else, I'd probably just stay home this weekend and work as usual tomorrow.
  17. Atlanta is also off this weekend. That could be a possible location as well.
  18. The Astros are saying a decision will be made tomorrow.
  19. If they wanted to keep it relatively close, the Rangers are playing on the road this weekend. I would be ok with moving the games to Arlington.
  20. I'll watch the updates tomorrow. I'm not planning to head that way until tomorrow around 4, so the Astros should announce the plan by then. I'm out the money for my hotel for 3 nights either way. If they're going to play at 1 on Friday, I'll at least try to make that one and then decide whether to wait and see if they play Sunday or get the hell out of Dodge. I'm really pissed at mother nature so far this year. First sending Gustav my way and now effing with my trip to Houston.
  21. I'm still planning to head that way tomorrow and see what happens. My plans could change before I leave, but as of right now, I'm heading to Houston tomorrow night.
  22. Thiswas issued by the Astros today.
  23. I have some pretty sweet seats to all three games...they better play the damn thing! Also, if anyone is going an wants to meet up, let me know.
