  1. Will Zambrano get the Silver Slugger award this year?
  2. I don't think Murton will ever be a power hitter, but I think he can conceivably hit .300-.330 with 20-25 HR power while having an OBP in the 370+ range. For that, I'd love to give him his shot in left unless we could land a hitter the caliber of Manny Ramirez. We still need upgrades in CF and RF for next season. Given the number of holes we have, I don't see why Murton isn't already penciled in at left.
  3. I'll have to give this one to you...one hell of a game by McNabb. I think my team will put up respectable points, but it's tough to overcome that.
  4. Murton would be a better lead-off option than Perez. :x
  5. I'll probably watch this one, but only because the Cowboys play tomorrow night.
  6. I like your thinking, but I don't think Corey + Ricky comes close to getting Quentin. Despite Nolasco's solid numbers throughout his minor league career, he's not thought of as an A prospect. (Here's the danger of just looking at the numbers. ;) ) Would Nolasco be enough to get Cameron and then replace Nolasco with Hill in the deal to Dbacks? I think you're going to have to send someone at Williams' level in at least one of those two deals. I could go that route. Then sign Millwood as 5th starter. We'd be set.

  8. An article in today's Toronto Star indicate that J.P. Riccardi might leave the Blue Jays when his contract is up after the 2007 season. Would anyone here rather have him running the show than Hendry? Riccardi is an interesting candidate. He's of the new school of GM's, ala Beane, Epstein, etc. I'm not sure the Cubs would go in that direction, but it could be interesting. His record may not be stellar, but his first task as a GM was to reduce a payroll and yet still compete with the Yankees and Red Sox in the tough AL East. I'm sure many would have mixed reviews on his performance. I found this part very intriguing.... So, what's everyone's thoughts on this?
  9. The Torii Hunter issue, as well as other trade possibilities, is brought up in this article in the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. Interesting that the Cubs were the first names mentioned there. Everyone seems aware that the Cubs MUST do something to address the outfield this offseason. There's also speculation that Radke could be had in a trade, but I doubt we'd have any interest. Other guys that could be moved this offseason are Delgado and Thome.
  10. The Cubs have the payroll to easily absorb Ramirez's contract. I usually won't advocate paying anyone 20 million a season, but with the weak FA crop, if the Cubs could get Ramirez, they would be fools not to take that leap. Adding Manny would greatly improve the offense. In fact, that move alone might be all we would need even if you brought back the same supporting cast as this year. A middle of the order of Lee, M Ramirez, and A Ramirez would be formidable.
  11. Cameron makes a lot of sense, and I'm not sure if it would even cost Rich Hill. But let's assume the Cubs can make a trade for Cameron to play CF. Next, the Cubs could trade Patterson and Nolasco to the D'backs for Quentin. Sign Furcal to play SS...and here's my 2006 Chicago Cubs. Furcal SS Walker 2B Lee 1B Ramirez 3B Barrett C Cameron CF Quentin RF Murton LF I don't think that's a bad line-up. It's not an awe-inspiring group, but I think it could score some runs.
  12. If those were my only options, I think I'd concede the game and get a head start on drinking for the night.
  13. It would be hilarious if the Sox miss the playoffs altogether.
  14. Wickman in to try to close it out. 5-4, Indians in the top of the ninth.
  15. The Sox are losing 5-0 in the seventh. If the Indians can beat the Royals tonight, the lead will drop to 3.5 games.
  16. How did we end up with the dumbest manager in MLB?
  17. Please don't tell me the Gremlin tried to bunt his way on. No, it was just a chopper that didn't go anywhere. I say bunt when actually bunt the ball. Oh ok. I'm still shaking my head over that line-up. If I were Hendry, I would have walked down there and fired him as soon as that sumbitch was posted.
  18. Please don't tell me the Gremlin tried to bunt his way on.
  19. The Twins are now denying that Hunter will be traded.
  20. I agree. Unless we're getting a very good player, we should not even entertain the idea of trading Walker.
  21. I'm indifferent to Rusch. I don't care if he stays or leaves. He shouldn't be promised any role, regardless.
  22. I still think A. Jones might be available in an offseason trade. One thing Shurholtz has shown in his tenure is that he doesn't develop sentimental ties to players. Even with Jones's great season this year, if Shurholtz believes that he can improve the team and help its long term future best by unloading him, he will. I'm not certain what burden the Hampton contract will put on the Braves financing. He's due to make 13 million, and in my opinion, would be a perfect stop gap in CF to give Pie one more year to develop in AAA. I'd at least open dialogue with the Braves about Jones and see where it goes.
  23. I'd start Jones and Vick.
