  1. The Reds need pitching and to get Dunn, I'd offer them lots. I would offer them two of this group: Williams, Hill, Mitre. One of this group: Wellemeyer, Leicester, Novoa, and Wuertz. One of this group: Gallagher, Pinto, Brownlie, Guzman, Marmol, and Nolasco. I'd also be willing to throw in Corey Patterson if needed to complete the deal. I'd consider letting them have Murton as well, as I don't think either Murton or Dunn can play left, so Murton would have to be moved in another deal if we get Dunn.
  2. If I read we traded for Dunn, I'm going to need a change of pants.
  3. Why not have someone who gets on base better than Pierre and has more power but less speed and plays better defense, ala Milton Bradley? I think the Cubs would prefer a leadoff guy that's ready to play 162 games, instead of spending part of the year either pouting in the dugout, or in jail. Just a thought. Apparently you didn't read where I qualified everything by saying if we sign Furcal. In that scenario, I have a lead-off hitter ready to play 162 games, and so with that in place I'd rather a hitter who can actually drive the ball every once in awhile.
  4. I'm guessing Furcal is a Cub by Monday night.

  6. I'd prefer we trade for Luis Castillo over Furcal and Pierre. That being said, I'd rather have Furcal than Pierre. My issue is if we have Furcal to lead-off, why trade for Pierre. It seems a little redundant to me.
  7. My guess is Furcal will happen first. I think it's going to take time for a trade to develop, especially if more than just the Cubs and Marlins are involved.
  8. It's looking like it will be a five year deal if we sign Furcal. Link. This part of the article seems to imply the Cubs and Furcal will reach a deal sooner rather than later.
  9. The Padres are discussing bringing in the fences at Petco Park. Link I wonder if this is a ploy to make Giles want to stay in San Diego. :-k
  10. He wants to be on the East Coast, and Baltimore needs pitching. They make a perfect match.
  11. Sorry to hear about your Mother Vance. It's ok. She was diagnosed 4 years ago and is in complete remission. I was just using it as an example. After re-reading my post, I realize it sounds as if it is a recent occurance.
  12. Getting mad at Wood for being injured is like me getting mad at my mother because she had breast cancer and I had to help her out with things.
  13. In 7 MLB seasons, Wood has posted a 3.67 ERA, a 564 winning percentage, a 10.44 k/9, and a 214 BAA. The only knock against Wood that has any validity is his ability to stay healthy. When healthy, Wood is a top 20 pitcher in the major leagues, wins notwithstanding. Whether or not Wood can or will remain healthy remains to be seen, but when he is healthy there are not many pitchers better. And for what its worth, Wood is only 28 years old.
  14. Matsui is looking for a "Drew Deal" and that's what has delayed his signing in the Bronx. The Yankees underestimated his desire for ca$h and overestimated his comfortability with New York. They assumed they could have him for a 3/27 deal. My guess is they will eventually step up to the plate and offer the 5/55 he wants. If he does hit the market, look at the Mariners making a big push for him. If they do sign him, I'd not hesitate to try to get Ibanez off their hands on the cheap. The Dodgers and Angels also could make a play for him. Both of those teams could keep up with the Cubs as far as bidding for his services. I also wouldn't be surprised if the Mets pursued him and then moved Cliff Floyd to 1b. Matsui won't be cheap and likely will cost more per year than Giles. The biggest issue facing all teams if Matsui hits the market is that the Yankees will make an all-out push for Giles.
  15. Is Gibbons a better option than Mench? Maybe. I like him over Sanders, Encarnacion, Jones and Burnitz. He's an option, but I don't think he should be the first option. In fact, I'd rather have Milton Bradley in right over Gibbons.
  16. Furcal would be a Type A FA. We'd lose our second rounder.
  17. I don't think Giles will sign quickly. There will be enough suitors for him to take his time and weigh the offers. That could work in the Cubs favor. We know the Cubs first priority is Furcal. If Giles is still around after Furcal signs, then I can see the Cubs becoming players in this. They will know exactly how much they have left to spend and where it will need to be allocated. My guess is Giles won't sign anywhere until the Yankees-Matsui mess is worked out. Even if he has no intention of going to New York, his agent will likely see the value of using those Yankee dollars to get his client a better deal elsewhere. Giles also likely will want to see if the Braves re-sign Furcal. If they do not, the Braves might have the cash to unite him with his brother in Atlanta. My guess is Giles will not sign before December 15.
  18. Offer them Wellemeyer for Bradley. If he doesn't work out, we cut bait and all we've lost is a pitcher we would have had to expose to waivers at the end of spring training anyway.
  19. If many of the other options are no longer available, and no one wants to trade, I might look at Sanders. I would say he's number 10-15 on the possiblitly list.
  20. not if he can get pierre from the fish for cp as has been rumored. If I'm signing Furcal, as has been rumored, I'd rather have Bradley than Pierre. Also, trading for Bradley doesn't preclude you from trading for Pierre and moving Bradley to right. thats fine but as has been stated above, there is virtually no chance of the cubs getting a guy with bradley's issues. i would rather see pierre in cf than bradley. on paper bradley has better #'s but in reality he's a bomb waiting to go off. maybe he and urbina can be pen pals from their respective jail cells. Bradley is a better fielder than Pierre. He has more power than Pierre. He likely will get on base better than Pierre. He's put up a 900+ OPS once in his lifetime, a number Pierre could only dream about. Does he have some issues, surely. Because of those issues, his cost in salary and players, is also less than Pierre. I agree that I doubt the Cubs look at him. Of course, that shows how inept they've been at creatively making this team better. After 2004, they wanted to get rid of the bad apples. Well, they did and our team was worse for it. I agree the Cubs won't make a run for Bradley, but they should. Once again, not pursuing him is another bad decision on the part of the Cubs.

  22. He moves back there when Pierre leaves as a FA. Where will Pie play? Look back at my post. Pie was moved in the deal to get Pierre and Castillo.
  23. I think it means they cannot prove when he took the steroids that caused the positve test; therefore, they cannot be sure that he lied when he said in Februrary that he had never taken steroids.
  24. I'd shrink that sig down to about half the size.
  25. As I guessed, the voters got it wrong.
