    Hmm you mean exactly what we'd likely get out of Walker except Walker is healthy. I guess thats a reasonable trade off for a guy that can 'catch the ball' Yep...but if Hendry has to trade Walker, Vidro is at least one 2b who wouldn't be a step down.

    Ok, I'm not in favor of trading Prior, but if I were, I think there are a number of deals that could happen that would be better than what we would get from the Orioles. Are all of these "good" deals? No. Also, I'm not saying I'd make any of these, but I'd make all of them over trading Prior + Hill + Patterson for Tejada and 2 minor leaguers. 1. Prior, Walker, Patterson to the Dodgers for J.D. Drew, Jeff Kent, Derek Lowe and Chad Billingsly along with the Dodgers contributing some cash on Lowe's contract. Lowe fills Prior's spot in the rotation and our line-up if Drew is healthy would be something like: Pierre Drew Lee Ramirez Kent Jones Barrett Cedeno/Perez That 2-5 would be as good as anyone in the game. 2. Prior and Patterson to the Rangers for Teixeira andDanks or Diamond. 3. Prior to the Reds for Dunn, Milton, and Homer Bailey along with enough cash to pay a chunk of Milton's contract. 4. Prior to the Devil Rays for Lugo, Gomes, and Delmon Young. 5. Prior and Murton to the Mets for Milledge, Floyd, and Glavine. 6. Prior to the Phillies for Abreu, Floyd/Hamels, and Kiel Fisher. I've got more...but I'm tired.

    I still say if Hendry is dead set on this, he should shop Prior to all twenty-nine other teams. I think he could improve us much better than Tejada. I don't know what teams would offer for Prior, but a team that thinks they are just an "ace" away might be willing to give us quite a package.

    More news: Gonzo has indicated he would invoke his 10/5 rights unless he was given an extension for 2007. Just say no then.

    Vidro is a switch hitter who has a very strong arm. In 75 games before getting injured last season, he hit 275/339/424. That's not all that impressive, but his three preceding seasons he hit 294/367/454, 310/397/470, and 315/378/490. He's 30 years old, so those three seasons were likely his peak. If healthy, he could hit 285/360/450 as a switch hitting two-hole hitter. Depending on what the Nationals were asking for him, I'd definitely take a look. If I could get him for Jerome Williams and Patterson or something of the like, I'd take him.

    So his career OPS is below 2B average, but that's OK 'cause he does it consistently? So what you're telling me is that besides last year's anamoly (since good players stay very consistent to their "normal" self), Derrek Lee is only a slightly above-average offensive 1st baseman? Or does the Lee season count, but the Spivey season not? Let me quote myself in this topic: Directly refute Junior Spivey signing for $1.5 million team that had a huge question mark at 2nd base, given the market and his history. A big difference with Lee and Spivey has to do with their most recent performance. Spivey's most recent performance is atrocious. Lee's most recent performance isn't. I think what a player did last season is more relevant than what they did in 2002. But since career numbers are most important, I guess you're expecting Sosa to have a rebound year as well....or would that only happen if he signed with the Cards? Geeze!

    The Reds don't have a log jam in the OF anymore. Plus, I doubt they'd want to trade him to a team in the NL Central. I agree, but the Reds aren't contending either so I think for the right package he could still be available. I wouldn't expect him to come cheap either...but I don't believe it beyond the realm of possibility either.

    If we have to trade Walker and Vidro is healthy, let's get him and pass on Tejada. Anything to keep Prior.

    If he wants a big bat for LF, he should think really big. Would a package of Hill, Pie and Dopirak land Dunn? If we're going to sign Pierre to a long-term deal and we signed Craptacular Jones for three years to hold down rightfield, Pie may be more valuable as a trading chip. Would the Reds bite on such a deal?

    Ok, I thought this deserved it's own thread. Merge it if need be mods, but according to this site, no deal is imminent and the Orioles and Cubs haven't spoken since Thursday. The article goes on to discuss the fact that the Orioles want Zambrano and also have interest in Dopirak. This is going to drag on fellas.

    To suggest Spivey is anywhere the caliber of player of Castillo is ridiculous. Castillo: Career- 293/370/356 05: 301/391/374 04: 291/373/348 03: 314/381/397 Spivey: Career- 270/354/436 05: 232/315/378 04: 272/359/421 03: 255/326/433 Castillo is also a better defender. I understand your comments about value and risk, but when you buy crap, you're likely to get crap. This offseason, the Cardinals have bought crap. Surely if I can find someone who'll sell me a 1962 Buick for 25 bucks, it's going to be a bargain if the car runs. On the other hand, if it doesn't run, it's a waste of 25 bucks.

    I was thinking about this earlier. Since, at the draft, we will already have our keepers, should we just do it like a straight draft? It would make sense since theoretically, the guys at the end of the draft will have better keepers than the guys at the front. That would be true if we were keeping entire teams...but some of the weaker teams may have just as good of keepers when limited to three, it may have been the rest of the team that dragged them down. My team for example...my success was due to my entire team...while I have some good players, I don't think I will have a decided advantage when only keeping three. But for example, Roast will at least have LT among his keepers which is a great start to build around and will also have the third pick among what the good teams discard. I think we should snake draft, but I also think maybe instead of everyone randomly announcing his keepers, we should start with the top team and select keepers from our team in that order on down. That way the bottom teams would have the knowledge of the other teams' keepers when making their selections.

    I feel for him as well, but that doesn't mean you can rob a jewelry store. I understand and agree with your points. I just didn't want it to become a mental illiness bash fest. I have all the sympathy in the world for the mentally ill. My mother worked for 25 years as a pharmacist in a state run mental health clinic. What I have a problem with is those with illnesses know they need their meds. They are counseled ad nausem to take them. Most of the meds they take have side effects. They can make you tired or sluggish. Many times these people who need these meds to keep them from being a menance to society stop taking them because they don't like the side effects. When they make this choice, they are knowingly putting society at risk. That's why I don't think "he stopped taking his meds" should be a valid excuse for criminal behavior.
