  1. I don't think that word means what you think it means... Some people think these moves are trangressions. As for Peavy, that situation is not directly related to any of these moves. As I blogged, the ownership situation has to sort itself out first. Was DeRosa a cancer in the clubhouse or was there something behind the scenes we are not privy to? It seems pretty odd to move on of your better offensive players for 3 B- or C rated prospects.
  2. Not to mention that the report states pitching prospects. Who are the Indians top pitching prospects?
  3. It's reasonable for a bench player that provides some sort of value, by doing something really well. But does Miles do anything really well? I don't think so. His career seems like definition of replacement level production. Depends on what your definition of "really well" is. His last three year splits have him getting on base at a .374 clip against LHP. That would be a nice compliment to Fontenot, who thrives off of RHP. Also, he does some value in that he can adequately play almost any position on the field. I'm not arguing that he is a great signing, just that he is a decent option off the bench.
  4. Surprisingly Miles is not terrible for a backup. It looks like he can play everywhere, and he gets on base at a decent clip. He is actually a pretty good signing for a bench player. I'm not sure that $2.5MM a year is reasonable for a bench player though.
  5. Haha, there goes the Marquis money. This also means that somebody (probably DeRosa) is definitely on his way out.
  6. Sweet deal for Marquis. Going to Colorado for the last year of his contract. This should help him get a good deal for 2010. :-)) Also, isn't Marquis the only active player to go to the playoffs every year of his major league career? That streak might be over.
  7. http://blogs.dailyherald.com/node/1163 I'm guessing Bruce's source is Jim Hendry.
  8. Wow. I listened to the entire Levine segment and totally missed him saying that Bradley was a done deal. I thought he said that the Peavy deal and the Bradley signing were likely to follow.
  9. No. All quotes are direct quotes. Well, here we go again...... Yes. It sounds like the Cubs are ready to trade DeRosa to a third team for prospects. Some of the prospects will go to the Padres. Levine thinks Vizcaino may be moved as well, and that the salary saved from Marquis and DeRosa will allow the Cubs to get Peavy. He was saying something about Fukudome getting another shot in RF or something to that effect but I was distracted.
  10. Levine is on fire tonight - "The Peavy deal is back on" - DeRosa is probably going to be involved. "Would not be suprised if DeRosa is gone in next 3 days" Hendry is moving money around to get Peavy and possibly Bradley.
  11. Levine is coming on ESPN to talk about the Peavy sweepstakes? ](*,)
  12. Is there such a thing as a ROOGY? If so, it looks like Luis Vizcaino would fit the bill. Looking at his splits last year he held RH's to a .170 avg and his overall #'s against RH's are pretty impressive. Vs. LH's though he was terrible. In the past Lou has shown an ability to take advantage of splits (i.e. Fontenot in 2008). If used properly it looks like Vizcaino could be a very valuable reliever to have coming from the pen.
  13. Maybe the Cubs have already reached a deal with the Padres to get Peavy, they are just waiting until the new owner is announced so that the new owner can make an instant statement that he will do anything to help the Cubs win.
  14. wrigley23 is every cliche of "angry typing guy" rolled up into a single adorable package. Now he can't be bothered to counter points against his arguments because he "has a life." it's always so entertaining when people you assume are 14 years old end up writing that they are 40 years old and have a wife and 2 kids. it just blows my mind that someone that age can have so little perspective about the game. by the way, is message board hero similar to guitar hero? I think you have that backwards. It is generally the young people that are coming up with the new perspectives regarding the game. For example, I'm sure that if Steve Stone or Dusty Baker posted their thoughts on NSBB they would get ridiculed to no end, and that would hardly be from a lack of perspective about the game.
  15. Hendry said the same thing when he was getting interviewed by Kaplan on Sports Central a week or so ago. The Cubs aren't going to do anything until Hendry gets approval from his new boss. I guess it could be a good thing, and the Cubs will get an owner that will go all out on payroll. :-)) :-)) This is the Cubs we're talking about.
  16. I can't believe that somebody hasn't jumped at Marquis for roughly 5-6MM for one year. It is really a decent contract.
  17. Well there goes one of Hendry's options for another starter. I actually wouldn't have minded signing him for one year. The Giants rotation next year has the potential to be pretty damn good.
  18. After listening to the whole interview, I'm not confident that the Cubs will add any of the big name free agents for RF. He hinted over and over again that the ownership situation was going to prevent any significant moves.
  19. Hendry just said that without a new owner in the picture that the Peavy deal would likely not happen. He said that the GM would need approval from the new owner, with Peavy's size of contract.
  20. Is Dunn's defense that bad that it would negate his pretty good OPS?
  21. Bailey is headed the wrong way in the system. What's next Peoria?
  22. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/8954110/Sources:-Furcal-picks-Dodgers-over-Braves http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ti-furcalbravesoffer121708&prov=yhoo&type=lgns Is this the same agent Furcal had when he burned the Cubs?
  23. Somebody should change the title to reflect the recent news. Something like "Peavy Deal Undead". Let's crank this baby back up and steam our way to 200+ pages.
