how is he preventing him from doing his job? i think you know what i mean but if we have to play these games i will spell it out for you, he is not physically stopping him from doing his job, i am saying to let him complete his body of work before you judge it. for a lame example: a painting looks like a bunch of crap slopped together before it is completed and becomes a master piece. i am in no way calling hendry's work a master piece though just an analogy.

Really, this is a tired argument. Lee and Aramis where pure salary dumps that fell into Hendry's lap. Lee was actually traded to Baltimore, but a long term deal couldn't be worked out. Aramis was getting too expensive for the Pirates. I have to ask you, who wouldn't have made those trade? That is the question. No, the more important question is why didn't anyone else make those trades? This anti-argument doesn't hold water, CubinNY. Here's why... If it is true and Ramirez and Lee were true salary dumps, then every GM in need of a top 3 1B and 3B and a little bit of salary room would have been in line to get them since they were practically being given away, right? So why is it that the failure of a GM, Jim Hendry, was the one that got them? Why didn't they wind up on some other team? Were the Cubs the only team that could afford them? Why didn't the Yankees get Ramirez? They needed a 3B. Why didn't the Red Sox get Lee, they needed a 1B. If it is as you say and these players just "fell into Hendry's lap" and he deserves no credit for getting them as they went into what looks to be their very productive primes, then why didn't some other, better, more proactive, non-failure of a GM come in and steal them away from our dunce of a GM? After all, he was just sitting there doing nothing when they just fell into his lap? If the Ramirez, Hundley and Lee trades don't count as evidence of Hendry's worth, neither do his missing out on Beltran, or not signing enough pitching to cover when Wood got injured, or not having an adequate back-up for when Nomar went down, or his not improving the team's OBP enough. i agree, this has been my point all along. pretty much hendry is a sore subject, those who hate him would be upset if he traded augie ojeda for babe ruth. never going to please all, just get us back to the playoffs and you will please me jim!

fair enough i agree with that point, wood and prior were healthy in 03 great things happened. ever since they have been injured and look where we are. finally hendry is stock piling pitchers and not counting on prior, what ever we get is a bonus. to summarize my stance, it really bothers me when all people do is pick apart every move made and have 5 ways that would have been better. let the man do his job and wait for the completed product before you try and have his head on a pike. if in the end the product is garbage(last year) fire away at him but atleast let him complete his squad before you jump to conclusions.

Aramis was getting too expensive for the Pirates. I have to ask you, who wouldn't have made those trade? That is the question. he sure did a hell of a job getting rid of hundley. to be honest if you hate hendry you use the slary dump argument, if you like him you say it is a good move. my opinion is that even if it was a salary dump hendry sure as hell stepped up and got them didnt he? i am sure every team in baseball would take lee or aramis so please don't play the " he only got them because of money" game, point is he got them so be happy and for once give the man some credit. i dont agree with all his moves but i think his positives out weigh the negatives. okay i feel better now, feel free to tear into me! He got rid of Hundley for roughly the same amount of salary and got a part time player and a back up 2nd baseman who was pushed into service because Bobby Hill didn't pan out. I don't know how anyone can say that Hendry's positives outwiegh his negatives after watching the Cubs on the brink of the WS in 2003 and the seasons, of 04, 05, and 06. The O4 team was one game better than the 03 team and 05 and 06 where complete disasters in every sense of the word. last time i checked karros and grudz played very well for us. bobby hill now there is a name for ya, oh thats right hendry turned BOBBY HILL into ARAMIS!!!!! this isnt mvp baseball for playstation, it takes 2 to tango on signings and trades not just hey i like player x lets go sign him.

What I don't understand is why anybody would want DeRosa. never said i did, just saying that this is the going rate, i would be willing to bet that urham gets at least 5-6 mill. what happens if derosa splits with jones? pretty good production in rf for less then 10 million. my whole point is you can't tear apart moves without knowing the ral meaning behind them. i will let the offseason play out and judge from that point on. What does that even mean? Knowing the real meaning? I think the real meaning is pretty clear. Hendry's scouts fell in love with DeRosa and, Hendry being Hendry, he ignored thinks like DeRosa's poor seasons past, his lack of every being a regular, and his age, and he focused only on the upside. He was his first target in free agency, and he got him. Now he's the starting 2B. i would imagine that he starts at 2nd base but you can't be sure until he does. he could end up being utility and rf against lefties for us. what happens if hendry signs loretta or durham??? then derosa is super sub. this is what i mean by the "real meaning" statement. you cant just assume everything.

The Gil Meche Thread
ShawonOmeter12 replied to RynoRules's topic in MLB Draft, International Signings, Amateur Baseball
i am not a fan of blanco at all, i agree soto would do the same at a fraction of the cost. What i don't understand is what makes everyone think derosa would only get 2-3 mil a year? that is not the market right now, players are getting lots of money so you can either sit around and wait for a "bargain" or pay the price for the guy you want. lastly, just because you want someone doesnt mean they want you, i would be very shocked if schmidt leaves the west coast for example. i will reserve my judgement untili see the final product and not tear it apart piece by piece as it happens. -
Theriot will certainly regress, but he's young enough to be learning still. Derosa will be 32 next February. He's not going to get any better. Bingo. well i would argue that gary matthews jr sure got a whole lot better with consistent playing time and he will cash in this year, isn't he like 31 or 32? anyways i agree derosa got a little more then i would like but the beauty is when you have a $115 mil payroll you can go a little higher to get guys, i don't want to hear that he might cost us soriano or drew.. if hendry wants them a few extra million wont stop him. i would also be willing to bet that durham and loretta get more than derosa so you cant say that derosa cost us drew becasue many of you are wanting both durham and drew.
-
havent read all of the pages but i am curious why evryone takes derosa's stats from last year and calls them a fluke but when you talk about theriot you think he can produce at the same level he did last year for a small amount of time. without looking i am pretty sure last year was a career year for theriot compared to his minor league stats.
-
i highly doubt the 2-3 mil for miller will have any effect at all on the a-ram signing. this is a good deal for us, the more arms the merrier because we all saw what happened last year. the cubs have a 100+ payroll a couple mil to them is like me buying a candy bar for my kid while waiting in line at the grocery store, not a big deal at all.
-
no they wont supply much offense but it doesnt really matter how bad our offense is this year. i will withhold my judgement until next year. if we go out and sign lee/soriano or some pretty good hitters it will work out nice having a great middle infield defense. defense and pitching are what win ballgames so lets see waht we lool like next year before we all get upset over this deal.
-
if hendry really believes that aramis is going to opt out then he needs to deal him asap. i would love to have ervin santana. i cant say much about aybar since i havent seen him play but a 23 year old pitcher who is more then holding his own in the AL sounds way better then waving goodbye to aramis at the end of the year with nothing to show for it.
-
i dont really care what they get for him i think the cubs should trade him to a contender that way he can make a run at the series before his career is over. the cubs atleast owe him that, no use in staying here and ending his career on a bad team.it would be nice to get something of value for him but i just dont see it happening.

just a few comments on your guys/girls posts... 1. gonzalez will be the main point of my bartman section 2. i kind of like the history idea of wrigley, i will have to think about that one 3. lastly to clear up my approach, i love being a cubs fan and i will never waver but i just wanted to talk about some of the major things that us fans have endurered through the years.
-
i am doing a speech for school about the misery of being a cubs fan and i need 3 solid topics to talk about. what would you guys suggest that i talk about? i am pretty sure i am going with the curse of the goat and bartman but i could really use some ideas from you guys. thanks for the help in advance.

if your kids like amusement parks there is a place called adventureland in altoona which is maybe 10-15 minutes away and i would say maybe 15-20 bucks to get in. easily atleast a half day to full day of fun for the kids. -
Womack up, Theriot down
ShawonOmeter12 replied to Larry Horse's topic in MLB Draft, International Signings, Amateur Baseball
it is about time, dont get me wrong i am not a big fan of womacks. i am glad that ryan will finally get some at bats which he needs to continue to develop. too bad he was never given a real shot in chicago. -
no i am a fool too, i didnt even notice that, maybe i can save face here by saying that if i put field question people would wonder if i thought there were bleachers on the field. it is not wrigley stadium but the building is a stadium not a field. did i save face there or not?
-
did i say stadium? or are you just pointing out how dumb jeff gordon is?
-
thanks for the help, bleacher seats are where the real fun is at. cant wait to go to the game
-
i am in a cubs club here in des moines at a bar and i won 2 tickets to labor day weekend game in bud light bleachers, what are the bud light bleachers?
-
if it is head to head you will be fine. what i usually do in rotessire(sp) leagues is i assume that i will be terrible in one category so i just say screw saves and dont buy/draft any or trade the ones i do get for what i really need. i have noticed that saves are the most overpaid for things in fantasy, just my opinion though.
