  1. There is no way Webb is that stupid to put something illegal right there on his cap. It's dirty because he's got a habit of pulling on his hat constantly. Let it go.
  2. Now 6th overall. 2nd Man Utd fan. 1st from the USA. \:D/ (I'm enjoying it while it lasts.)
  3. On cubs.com in 2003 I suggested: "If you think this is cold, you should try Hell." Unfortunately it won't be cold at all during this first series, and really it would be better for a later series anyway. So... keep that in mind should we still be playing in a couple weeks. As far as I know nobody used that back then.
  4. John Terry broke his cheekbone and Didier Drogba was red-carded in that game as well. Roman's empire is falling apart.
  5. 1. Zambrano 2. Ramirez 3. Theriot 4. Jacque 5. Wood
  6. I think some of the guys actually think that they'll be playing Derby in a couple weeks. :) I haven't played since just after the time when we started learning that there were more positions than just "ball chaser". However, I'm happy to fill out the side if Derby does come calling and you need an 11th on the pitch. Maybe I can be manager*, since that's what I came here to brag about. I don't know how many are still following their Premier League fantasy teams. I've moved up to 3rd in the NSBB league, but my 'real team' which is not in the NSBB league is now in 26th place. Overall. Out of 1.3 milllion teams. It's the #2 team in the USA, by 3 points. Quite a thrilling run, really, to see your team on the front page of the overall leaderboard. * Many of you guys seem to know a lot more about tactics etc., so in reality I'd be a poor choice for manager. I just follow the PL pretty closely. Still willing to be the 11th man, though!
  7. I think the mistake you made is in using the word "good" to make your point in the subject title. Of course it would be good for Cubs fan. "True" fans and even the more recent fans that have cheered them on since Sammy/Kerry/2003 would obviously be very happy. However, I do think you make an interesting an accurate point. Using the Red Sox as an example, many baseball fans that weren't Red Sox fans still cheered them on as they were trying to beat the Yankees and end their drought. Three years later and many of those fans seem to have turned against them or stopped caring, though enough are still around because of their continued success. If the Red Sox ever started losing, they would lose the recent bandwagon fans, and the "mystique" that they previously had. I think the same thing would happen with the Cubs. However, any real fan will not care if the rest of the nation doesn't go gaga over the Cubs. In fact, I wouldn't mind losing bandwagon fans. So, in the sense that you're questioning whether it's good or not, I think that that is not the right word to use. But your underlying point of what it would do to the national support we receive is well taken. To say that this topic is stupid and should be deleted and how we almost made it the whole year without it coming up, maybe you guys should try to understand the point before jumping on the OP.
  8. Wow, I don't think any American Sports manager faces the amount of pressure they get over in Europe or even in South America for that matter. I thought he has does a great job. Maurinho and Abramovich just did not see eye to eye on players. Not winning the Premier League or Champions League last year, along with their recent poor form and drawing at home to Rosenborg... I'm surprised, but not surprised. I could see him taking over the Portugal team, I just hope he doesn't wind up at Manchester United after Sir Alex Ferguson leaves in a few years. He directed boring football at Chelsea. Good and productive, but boring. He was (is) a great interview, though, his post-match quotes were always something to behold. I get the feeling that Abramovich and Steinbrenner would be BFF should they ever met. Had to do the BFF, the old lady text messaging commercial cracks me up. Very similar, I agree. Steinbrenner learned to have baseball people control most of his moves, though, I think. Abramovich won't win if he controls the football moves.

  10. Liverpool 1-1 FC Porto Chelsea 1-1 Rosenborg Surprising results, especially Chelsea at home. They had something like 29 shots but couldn't put but a few on goal. They're obviously missing Drogba and Lampard, their two biggest scoring threats by miles. Chelsea's last three games are L, D, D, and they have to go to Old Trafford to play Manchester United on Sunday.
  11. The amount of support for this team in the game thread is pathetic. It's the world's biggest pessimism party. Obviously it's not everyone, but enough that's it's really become unbearable at times.
  12. As a matter of fact, it was. Ah the same ol' Moises, that's good to hear.
  13. I find it hard to believe that Moises Alou hit the ball to the right side. Unless... was it a check swing? Then I'd believe it.
  14. More TD passes than Grossman More TD runs than Benson It was a terrible day by his standards but he still has 2 TD under his belt and he's undoubtedly the best RB in football. Let the man pose. I like you but you are incredibly annoying in a Bears game thread. If you were within arm's reach you'd have a black eye right about now. Oh come on, man. And yet people are accusing me of breaking the rules around here? I'm on a baseball site talking about a football game. I'm not starting fights, and I'm not saying anything near as venomous as gets said every single day in baseball threads on the board. I dont know what it is about football but people get so much more defensive over these games then even cubbies games. The difference is that the venom on Cubs game threads is from Cubs fans, and it's known that they want the Cubs to win even if they scold the players/manager. It's obvious that you're not a Bears fan, and that rubs people the wrong way when this is for all intents and purposes a Bears game thread. At least that's how I see it.
  15. I think Alfonso thought that was in the second deck.
  16. For how long after Labor Day? Until Memorial Day. I think you're not supposed to wear white pants or shoes or something, but white shirts etc. would be ok. Not positive. I know women who swear by this "rule". Off to do something manly now.
  17. Seriously. What should have been the ruling there? A beating with a extension cord Mildly harsh, but I'm ok with it.
  18. Seriously. What should have been the ruling there?
  19. AL pitcher who doesn't have much practice with bunts? He's had 6 months to practice it this year, though. But I do agree with this.
  20. Is everybody watching the Bears or something, it's very quiet in here for such a big game.
  21. Soriano needs a wheelchair out there, he looks awful running.
  22. I could not agree more. The last few years Cubs fans seem like they can't help but boo even the most inconsequential things, and it keeps getting worse. If we don't want to be viewed as Lovable Losers that's fine (good, in fact), but it doesn't mean we have to be Ignorant Idiots, or Philly fans.
  23. Me too, they showed it many times but it was fun to watch the numbers get crossed off.
