  1. Pre-game interview: Bob: "What are some postive things you can take away from this season?" me: please don't say Neifi Dusty: "Well, I think how our young guys have played. You look at Cedeno and Murton, and..." me: please don't say Neifi Dusty: "... and our bullpen. Our bullpen is all young guys - Wuertz and Wellemeyer and Novoa and Ohman, and also..." me: please don't say Neifi Dusty: "...the leadership that some of our veterans have shown. You know, D-Lee has been great all year, and Aramis too, people wondered where we would get leadership after Sammy and Mo left, and D-Lee and Aramis have shown it. And also you've got..." me: please don't say Neifi Dusty: "...you've got, you have, you've got, uh, uh..." me: please don't say Neifi Dusty: "... Neifi Perez." me:
  2. That was a great live camera angle - they knew it was coming!
  3. Carolla comes off terribly on tv. He's still great on Loveline, where he can be a little more himself and has a little more freedom to rant/badger callers. None of the late night guys are good. I'd rather watch the same Daily Show 4x in a row than any of the late night talk shows.
  4. Didn't Burnitz say he was going to hit 80 or 90 HRs this year? It's gonna be a heck of a September!
  5. Why pull Williams there? He settled down a bit, got a couple easy grounders. Instead we're going to use 6 pitchers in this game.
  6. Seriously lolly-gagged? Ok, maybe not lolly-gagged if attempted by you and me, but to me... if he is SOOOO GOOD... AJones should have made that catch. Corey would have. Ok, you're right, I'd rather have Corey than Andruw. Thats was not what he said. Enough putting words in his mouth. Like I said before, I'm not watching the game so it's hard to rebut the accusations of Andruw's lack of hustle, but I find it shocking that he misplayed several balls in this one game. You're right, he didn't say that he'd rather have Corey than Andruw, but he insinuated that Corey is a better defensive CF (his opinion, I respect that), AND that Andruw is lazy and not a good CF and stated that he's a jerk. My whole point is that just because he makes it look smooth and easy doesn't mean that he's not trying or doesn't respect the game. I don't see a legitimate reason to dislike him but everyone sees things differently. I'm just giving my opinion.

  8. Well clearly he would be our top outfielder. I am in no way taking away from his offensive or defensive abilities. I could only dream of him being in our lineup everyday. Fair enough, I guess we just differ in our opinion of how he plays. C'est la vie!
  9. I'm not watching the game nor following the thread in real time, so I can't comment on what happened, nor do I know what "ole'd it" means to indicate. If he didn't hustle to get to a ball, then you and Garwilly have a point about how he plays the game. Nevertheless, just because he doesn't play the outfield like "you're supposed to" doesn't mean that he is showing off and "trying to look good" all the time instead of caring about the game. I mean, he's not Diving Jim Edmonds. He's not even Rickey Henderson, how he used to slap his glove down after routine catches. If the guy's caught a million balls the way he does it, that doesn't mean he doesn't respect the game. Like I said before, I'd trade for him straight up with anyone on the Cubs. I know I'm putting words in your mouth(s) here, but if you wouldn't take him over any of our outfielders, that's crazy.
  10. Let me defend Andruw for a second here. He's not lolly-gagging, he's just that good. Sure, if you or I were out there we'd probably feel most secure camping under the ball and catching with two hands. Andruw obviously doesn't need to do that. I can remember two defensive miscues by him (not that I watch him all the time, but still): 1. He went to catch it like he always does, it hit the heel of his glove and fell out, bounced off his knee, and he caught it bare-handed, not unlike Corey on Monday night. 2. He didn't hustle after a short fly ball that dropped in front of him, and Cox immediately pulled him from the game. I am sure he (Andruw) will never do that again. He's the best outfielder I've ever seen, and with his hitting this year, he's one of the first guys I would take to start a team. Being good is no excuse for a half-baked attempt. Do what you are supposed to do and that ball does not bounce off the heel of his glove. (Yes he did ctach t hat one you mentioned, but I have seen others fall) If he has had that happen other times and it's dropped, then I am mistaken. I'd be surprised if it Cox lets him get away with continuing to play that way if it has cost the team outs. Nevertheless, I don't think they are half-baked attempts or lolly-gagging. It looks like he's barely putting any effort into it, but just because it looks scary doesn't mean he doesn't have it all the way. If he hit consistently like he has this year, I'd trade him straight up for anyone on the Cubs.

  12. Otis... it wouldn't be that hard to do, except that the information (whether the starter is right handed or left handed) isn't recorded in the daily box score anywhere. That, in turn, means that every time I go to enter a box score into the computer, I'd have to go look up which hand the pitcher throws with. I'm way too lazy for that. Just guess, then.
  13. I like how more people have voted 'no' than 'yes'.
  14. ditto. an hour and fifteen before game time and there's no line-ups posted? Are the line-up people on their off day? :)
  15. Seriously. How about this, Scoop: He's a poor in-game manager and is maddeningly committed to vets, and my opinion of that won't change based on what color of the rainbow he is or isn't. Whether Chicago could use more black sports radio hosts or columnists is a different subject, but wanting Dusty gone has nothing to do with race.
  16. I voted Florida, and was surprised at the lack of votes they got.
  17. I haven't read the articles, so sorry if it's in there, but I would be curious as to what exactly he was caught using. Also, what he says about it. It's just unreal that a guy that just got his 3,000 hit would be dumb enough to be using. Aren't there some meds that have illegal substances in them but aren't necessarily for what we think of steroids as being? Another question I have: when do these tests take place? Could MLB have known, and then let him get to 3,000, take a couple weeks and then go public? I'm really curious to hear his take.
  18. I always wonder how tiring it is to play baseball when you are at home and the other team has been traveling. The team has no excuse for its lackluster efforts as of late. Err...this 18 game stretch included a road trip to Pittsburgh & St. Louis and then they travelled home ALL without a day off. You work your job 18 straight days with 3 travel days included and see if you are tired at the end of it. Sheesh I wish my job was to take BP a few hours before gametime, stand motionless in a field for half of 3 hours, sit on a bench for most of the other half, and once in a while swing a bat at a moving ball. That is sooo tough..... You really can separate the athletes from the non-athletes. I'm guessing you never played competitive sports at a high level. I also bet you were inside air-conditioning last week in the 100+ degree temps last week instead of losing 5-10 pounds playing baseball. I have played hockey at very competitive levels, a much tougher sport to play than baseball. And no, I wasn't sitting inside in the AC. I was shoveling hot asphalt outside, and cutting down trees 8 hours a day while people like you made ignorant remarks on the internet to try to feel good about their sad selves. C'mon jaydee. You're a 2-year member of this board and you're saying stuff like this??
  19. Wow. Has it gotten to the point where we're critical of Lee for one at-bat? The same guy who has been just about the only reason to watch this team?
  20. Wha Wha What!?!? My Parents live in Bradenton. Sharapova is there as well. Hrm... Yeah She's at the IMG training area. I've seen her at the beach in a 2 picee but with the wife who had no idea who it was. where's that picture?
