  1. With the Cubs this isn't true. Our fans show up whether we win or lose. It's a blessing and a curse. It seems TR realized this in 2018 or thereabouts, and stopped signing off on big FA signings. He knows that we'll sell out every game with or without a top 5 payroll. He got his WS. He clearly doesn't care about getting another one.
  2. We're trying really hard to be competitive without being a contender. Because winning is not the #1 goal for this FO. Maximizing profit is.
  3. D for me. While they filled 4 of their 5 needs, the one they didn't fill was the one they most desperately needed to. Had they ONLY landed the SP, I'd have given a B grade. We're better today than before the deadline, but our main competition for the pennant improved more than we did. I feel our odds of reaching the WS have shrunk. None of us would've been "happy" with Morton, Bradley, Houser, or Verlander, but at least one of those guys could've provided competent depth, and safeguard against a Boyd injury or Horton innings cap. Preventing another bull pen game. The most disappointing thing about yesterday is that the FO has once again proven that they are not committed to winning. The price is always too high. I do not have confidence that TR and JH are the duo that brings us back to the WS.
  4. I'd take a flier on Stro for the league minimum.
  5. 100% Jed erred in NOT identifying soon enough that the controlled SP market was too pricey. He didn't leave himself time to pivot to the rentals. He still would've needed to "overpay" there too. But if you're not willing to take a risk on this team, when are you gonna be willing to take a risk? And if he expects to build "sustained success" without taking any risks, we'll be stacking up 80 win seasons.
  6. "We don't want to give up the next PCA, or Mackenzie Gore". The teams that gave up those guys are right back in the hunt again this year, better positioned than the Cubs to make a WS run. Keep retooling. Don't wait for your minor leaguers to win you a world series. It will never happen.
  7. "The prices were too high". Torres was a price too high for a rental reliever, but we paid it bc we were in Win-Now mode. "Sustained success". Can we get 1 successful season at least before you preech about sustaining it!? If you keep focusing on tomorrow, you will never achieve today.
  8. I'm worried that Caissie not getting traded is a sign that the FO is less than confident they can resign Tucker. And today's fumble didn't help any.
  9. Jed would make a homemade pizza using ingredients he grew from his ****** garden.
  10. Trying to win it all with trepidation and luck.
  11. This. You may not like the price tag, but you have to pay up when you have a chance. Sigh
  12. Playoff baseball is different than regular season baseball
  13. He kinda has to start, at least initially
  14. And Horton remaining active and effective through Sept.
  15. I thought I heard earlier today that MN wanted to sign Ryan to a long term deal.
  16. Neither of these guys needs to be traded. And my guess is neither will. Hope I'm wrong. We should swing back for Gallen.
  17. I would place the Cubs chances at winning it all with the roster as is at under 5%
  18. Is that gonna be the swan song? We couldn't afford to compete?
  19. I can't wait until the 6:05 tweet saying Cubs dealt Caissie for Severino
  20. Rondell White available? Asking for a friend.
  21. Does Jed try to right his 2017 wrong and deal for Verlander? Lol
