  1. In addition to the bad defense, another downside of Morel starting at 3B is you potentially lose his bat late in close games.
  2. Counsell is used to winning 90 games with bad run differentials. Tomorrow the one run win comes.
  3. PCA hit a triple against the Storm Chasers, what is Cody still doing here
  4. It cracks me up that before the sixth inning or whatever, Marquee will show a Draft Kings single inning over/under prop, then cut to gambling experts like Joe Girardi and/or Carlos Pena who ALWAYS pick the over on something that would be better for the Cubs. That feels kinda icky
  5. That situation is designed by MLB to get at least one run. It started with a weak swinging bunt that advanced the runner, then Smyly was forced to nibble. I don't know that he actually pitched poorly
  6. That was incredibly entertaining baseball to watch. Also potentially will end up the worst game of the season all things considered, depending on MRI results
  7. Boy those were some hangers. Some luck was deserved after the ground rule double
  8. Or "grabbed". He seemed pretty upset for just a cramp.
  9. Damn, Madrigal must have been working on his arm while his hammy was recovering
  10. Eovaldi is a reverse splits guy so it's not a great matchup for Tauchman. And, well, left side infield defense is important behind Steele.
  11. Seiya finishes top 5 in MVP Busch wins ROY Morel takes a leap offensively, but cannot be trusted to play 3B after a few months (probably not too bold) and is traded prior to 2025 opening day. Wicks struggles and the rotation in general is a problem
  12. Sharma and Mooney put out an opening day roster article this morning. Of note, they have Cooper as the favorite among the NRIs to make it. The most interesting part to me was them writing Wesneski is not viewed as likely to make the rotation, even with Taillon on the IL; instead, it will likely be Smyly or Assad.
  13. I'd still be a little surprised if he's actually the starting 3rd baseman on opening day with Steele on the mound. I suspect he'll play 3rd when Imanaga pitches, as it appears he doesn't need infielders. The rest, I'm not so sure.
  14. There's still a few very DFA-able pitchers but I wonder if Tauchman could be on the move. Feels like he'd have a little more value to another team - Padres maybe? Mervis is in the lineup for this afternoon so that makes it seem like he's not getting traded today. Also Busch hasn't played yet, so I wonder if he's dealing with a little something and they may want to hold onto Mervis for a little longer.
  15. Man this is a great deal for the Cubs. This fits perfectly for what is needed short term. The way Jed operates can be frustrating and lacks entertainment value but he certainly has a knack for signing good players on his terms. Side note, there was a lot of talk about how he was the cheapest of the 4 SS, and while obviously true, the fact that Jed and Co gave Dansby 7/177 shows how highly they must think of him given how reluctant they seem to be to hand those type of deals out.
  16. The glove Alcantara is wearing is one of the coolest things I've seen on a baseball field.

  18. I read that and take it to mean they're not going over the tax. So for rest-of-offseason scenarios we're looking at either 1) Bellinger or Chapman only or 2) one of the DHs + Stanek?
  19. I like Assad for the 5th spot out of spring. It allows Wesneski to try to figure out lefties for a bit in AAA and Wicks can have a lighter workload in Iowa for the first month or two. Regarding Assad, I know some of the numbers don't like him as much as his ERA, but I was legitimately impressed with him toward the end of season in the rotation before he was inexplicably removed. He throws a lot of pitches and gets GBs, and I'm a big fan of his 2 seam/cutter combo. If there was a pitcher getting by on smoke and mirrors last season, it was more Wicks to me than Assad.
  20. The number I've been thinking is something like a front loaded 4/114 with a player opt out or 2. 114 beats Lee by $1 million which Boras likes to do, so he can still claim Bellinger was the highest paid CF of the off-season or whatever.
  21. If not the Giants or Cubs, I wonder where the heck Chapman would go. I know he almost always does, but I don't see how Boras can possibly pull this off where all 4 of the remaining big guys get legit long term deals.
  22. I can't believe Jed didn't offer a great player on another team $300 million. Classic conservative Jed
  23. As a baseball player (ignoring roster fit, though he still fits) for 2024 and beyond, I think I like Montgomery the most of the Boras 4, so I wouldn't complain if Jed ended up shifting focus to him. The offense would probably end up a bat short, but I'd feel really good about the pitching.
  24. I feel like a portion of Cubs fans are the only group that still views Mervis as a potential solution. It's the prospect lists, neutral observers, and the Cubs FO that seemingly has their doubts.
