  1. I am struggling to get passed the misspelling of Sawamura. 🤦
  2. Brazil’s first ever home World Cup qualification defeat. Nuts.
  3. Yes. Drinking buddies.
  4. This has Yankees written all over it.
  5. Yep. I think it’s way overblown that Ohtani will “reportedly” hold it against club if they go public with their interest. Or hold it against any city that puts up a large ad for him for his potential arrival. Shohei is not going to stay away from his first choice club just because his second choice club kept things more hush-hush.
  6. It’s safe to say it all went downhill for Gibraltar when they went down to 10 men.
  7. I hope Mike Trout is available because one of the greatest players in the history of this sport shouldn’t be playing out his career at such a basket case. But as the above posters have said, I don’t know if I go near him with that injury history. It will only get worse as he ages.
  8. You’re correct. All 30 clubs would love to have Shohei but those contract terms ($500M+) most likely rules out about half the league.
  9. That’s surprising. If I remember correctly, Seattle only just fell short of signing Shohei.
  10. Any good Internet hackers around? My thinking is that if we can hack 29 clubs socials to announce they are after Ohtani, he’s as good as ours.
  11. How to confirm you’re an horsefeathers in only one sentence.
  12. Carlyle Group? From “We are buying Manchester United fame.” lol. Take this with a mountain of salt until it’s official.
  13. Just got through the press conference. You can really see the club is in a good place and have pulled the trigger on hiring one of best managers in the business at the right time. Well spoken with a good Baseball brain. Such exciting times ahead.
  14. Hopefully the Cubs are playing on the first night and the last night of the MLB season. :D
  15. I had to go back to make sure, the comparison to ARod (and Manny Machedo) was from a physical standpoint. If that was the comparison, then it makes more sense. This Sports Illustrated article from a few days ago claims Ross is on the Padres shortlist https://www.si.com/fannation/mlb/fastball/news/san-diego-padres-considering-now-former-chicago-cubs-manager-david-ross-for-the-same-position
  16. I would take Package 1. You’re basically getting your ace for 2025 and beyond (Ohtani), a highly sort after pitcher in Imanaga, Ohtani’s top tier bat for 10+ years and Alonso for a year. Package 2 is very good as well but I just feel like Ohtani/Imanaga beats out Yamamoto and Ohtani cancels out Soto. Candelario or Turner is definitely not enough to change my mind.
  17. When the Cubs have the type of money they have this offseason and are apparently going to spend big, going all in on the best player on the market is so logical that anyone on earth could have made the call that the Cubs will go all in on Ohtani.
  18. Craig Counsell has never won anything in Baseball? Only two World Series titles as a player and guiding his club to three division titles and three 2nd place finishes as a manager. That exec tells us they have no idea without telling us…
  19. Sorry, was just thinking out loud. Nothing to do with this board specifically.
  20. Same here. Upgrading is never a bad thing. Ross made mistakes and Counsell will make mistakes. That’s the human element of sport. But it’s an upgrade, so I like that part of it.
  21. I don’t find it surprising that there are Cubs fans who are pro-Ross and would be upset by this. This is a guy who hit a franchise changing home run in Game 7 and went on to win the World Series in large part because of that home run. If that never happened, this sacking would just be seen as just a former player getting sacked. Instead of the sacking of a Chicago Cubs hero.
  22. The day MLB managers start valuing themselves at a quarter of a billion dollars on the open market is the same day that MLB clubs start hiring people from this forum to manage the team. 😛
  23. Hopefully this is that offseason. :)
  24. Cubs FO do owe us another Lackey/Zobrist/um…Heyward/Fowler offseason.
