    I think you're absolutely insane. We wouldn't even talk to Soto, and you think they're going to offer 500 million to Tucker? Jed isn't willing to go to 200 million so far. 1-5% is pretty fair. Especially knowing they can get a draft pick for letting him walk and they refused to use any trade capital this deadline. You don't keep Cassie and Alcantara if you don't expect an opening in the OF next year

    The team is 3 games over. 500 since June 1st and doesn't actually have 5 SPs on the roster.

    Straight to personal attacks when you lack data. Tucker is 4.7 WAR for the year. Bellinger is 3.6. Parades is 2.7 and Shaw is worth .6 I assume you can do math.

    Who is being outperformed by the guy they gave to the Yankees at the moment. His other trade this offseason is likely to be DFA'd after losing the closer's job.

    So he can't close FA, and he can't build a farm comparable to other teams. What exactly does he do? He can't even properly scout his own team unless you think Busch would fetch Hope today. The excuse for all the failures of the last 5 years was that the Cubs were rebuilding the farm and building a sustainable infrastructure. Now they don't have the prospects to make a deal. Make it make sense

    I've always complained that Jed is too cautious overall. I'm really hoping he has one big move to prove me wrong, and that his extension isn't the biggest news we get

    I'm rather meh overall. Jed's FO hasn't received a single top 10 vote by baseball executives in the last 2 years according to executives, and is one of only 8 teams to receive no votes. That being said, he's fine enough. It was pretty disappointing this was the deadline news, but it fits the general Cubs vibe of the last few years. We didn't spend money on the team or players, but we got a great manager and invested off the field. Venting aside, he doesn't horribly mismanage the team and he's had some wins building this team. He seems to struggle with internal scouting and valuing our own guys, but Busch and Tucker have been great for the Cubs.

The Cubs were one of 11 teams to receive zero votes for the second year in a row. I don't love Hoyer, but have no idea how we're behind the Marlins and Reds.

    I agree, but it will look a whole lot better with an extension. If Shaw struggles and Tucker walks, and Smith hits the way they imagine, it's going to be a hard trade to swallow. He could absolutely bust as well, but it's a bit rough to see at the moment.

    I own a company that makes me a lot of money. There are absolutely contracts I turn down regularly for quality of life reasons, and I'm being paid closer to an arb player than a star.

    Hoskins makes sense on a short term DH contract. Naylor kind of does, but then why trade for Busch? Bieber does little for me when there are better pitchers still available for just money. Clase is intriguing, but he seemed to be regressing last year too. I'd prefer to spend money with where we're at on the curve, and there's not a lot of point to me for trading the farm for guys who aren't legitimate stars.

    I kinda feel like this was the argument in 2019, but then we traded the good prospects for the wrong ML talent, kept the wrong ones, and then didn't spend the money. I can live with waiting if it means being sustainably good long term.

    Passan seems fairly convinced he's a 3B. If the Cubs buy/bought that, then Belli/Hoskins and call it a day.

    Which sounds great until they run Madrigal and Mervis out for 162 games. If this team really believes they've cracked the code for pitching, and they aren't going to spend Dodgers money, then what's the plan? Hope Shaw or Murray are ready this year?

    I'm referring to the people wanting to sign another starter to push Taillon into the 5 spot. Steele, Hendricks, Imanaga, Taillon, and the best of our youth, plus buying more bats, makes more sense than spending money on more starters. In theory we have Assad, Wicks, Brown, and Horton to fill the void at 5

    I honestly can't understand the rush to have a 17 million dollar #5 starter if we're not blowing past the luxury tax. This team has an army of league minimum arms fighting for the last spot. Spend money on bats
