  1. Hopefully they are just trying to drive the price down from the Cardinals by showing “Hey, we’ll shift to Hoerner instead”. But if Passan is posting this, I’m guessing there has been a little more serious talks for Hoerner than we thought vs just kicking the tires.
  2. Bellinger is absolutely still their top target. Agree with 1908 here. The report in the OP is a couple days old now and has basically been shot down from both sides as not happening as the Cubs aren’t looking to move Nico unless they are completely blown away by an offer.
  3. And since 2022, he’s 6th overall! Wow, what a hitter!
  4. Hey I’ve got good news for you since you care about walk to K rate. Bregman had the 17th best BB/K rate in all of baseball last season (Min 400PAs)!! That’s pretty good right?
  5. I think the realistic option is not moving anyone to get under the cap and being able to add a couple pieces at the TDL without shedding salary.
  6. He was obviously still cheating duh. Especially the first half of last season where he had around a 160 wRC+ pre injury but stopped cheating post injury. I'm sure every other org was squeaky clean and wasn't experimenting with non traditional forms of sign stealing. We're only talking about billion dollar organizations here, they don't have a lot on the line...
  7. I think the Sox original offer was something like 4/$135 and then upped to 5/$165 once Boras initially said they had a better offer on the table. I doubt the specific offer of 5/$175 has been there since winter meetings, but yea, do believe it's possible that the Cubs had their best offer in a few weeks ago and Bregman/Boras tried to get the Sox to top it.
  8. Yea I think the Yankees would love to stick him at SS and feel they will be in on him hard in FA. They've liked him for so long.
  9. It's Bregman just due to the commitment. Tucker always felt like a pipe dream to extend, more of a fling than long term sort of speak. I'm just over here day dreaming about the $22m from Shota, $17m from Jamo, and $14.5m from Boyd freed up after this season and throwing that at a certain FA lefty SP. A guy can dream.
  10. Health always seems to be their issue, but they're one top end SP away from being pretty damn good.
  11. Agreed. No interest in Spencer Jones here. Gil doesn’t excite me either. Would much rather just lock in the 4war season from Nico
  12. This is going to drag on until we let it known we’re not interested in moving Nico. Which I hope is the case
  13. Fully agree. I learned long ago athletes aren’t great role models. Some of them are fantastic humans, some of them you believe are and then years later find out they weren’t. I made a stance years ago that if the league allows said player to be in the league, then I’m fine with them being on my team. I’ll have my favorites, but they’re mostly just assets to me at this point (across all sports).
  14. Because it’s an internet sports forum. Happens everywhere. Best way to deal with a troll is to not engage
  15. At the end of the day, Bregman needs around 20 fWAR over his 5 years to hit value. All that matters is Jed and company believe he’ll land close to that with their internal projections.
  16. They probably should be looking at OF, but Kepler was a FA.
  17. The Cubs fan in me who has been hurt multiple times in these instances feels like Bregman back to the Red Sox, Belli back to the Yankees, Phillies land Bo, and Blue jays or Mets land Tucker. The logical thinker in me looks at our 2027 and 2028 payrolls and just see's no reason whatsoever for us to not sign one of these four, even if it cost us a few additional million in lux tax this season. We just literally don't have any substantial contracts besides Dansby and next off-season is going to be hell trying to replace all these guys if we don't start adding longer term pieces now.
  18. Meh, we are so short on pitching prospects that it just logically doesn't make sense to move Wiggins. This is just more evidence to support that if you had doubts.
  19. I think we're safe on Wiggins
  20. Yea, this gives them room to go that direction. I don't understand this angle if true - Just signed Polanco and traded for Semien. Baty finally came around last season, so unless they don't believe in him, I don't understand why you add three 2b, forcing one to play 3b in place of your young third basemen.
  21. He played 50 games in the OF last season at all 3 positions. Fangraphs currently has Benge as their LF starter and Tyrone Taylor as their CF. I like Benge a lot as a prospect but they probably need to make a move there to where they aren't starting both Benge and Taylor. Does it put them in the Imai market and then they flip some of their young pitching for Duran?
  22. I would have absolutely kicked the tires here pre Austin.
  23. If the Rays are blowing it up, would you guys take the risk on McClanahan if they were to make him available? I’ll preface with saying McClanahan was my favorite non Cubs SP before his injury. He was an absolute Ace. Post TJ surgery now but had a small triceps surgery that kept him from coming back last season. 2 years of control left. I’m guessing it’s a pipe dream and the Rays won’t sell low on him but eventually will once he proves he’s healthy. Like they did with Glasnow.
