i got a book about how to do card tricks in third grade. then i got a bogus deck and learned how to do three card monte really well. when i took it to school one of the kids knew how it worked and embarrassed me in front of everyone and so i cried and cried and ran into the bathroom to hide. it was a terrible experience at the time but an important step on the path to learning never to try or hope for anything good to ever happen.

i would unquestionably take a split in this series. if you offered me one win out of four, but i didn't have to watch or follow any of the games and i could just wake up thursday morning and see the cubs record reflecting that outcome but not know it was due to getting beaten up by the cardinals again, i'd take that, too. please no sweep.

Definitely not when he's still 21 and has played less than 75 career games above AA. He's shown flashes and has too much talent to not succeed imo. long-term or short-term? long-term, i'm still confident he's going to be a very nice player. short-term (aka the rest of this season), i'm worried that one of the spots from which i hoped we'd get solid production has turned into a second castro. -
