  1. thank god the cubs dont brb, reading articles about jacque jones being threatened by racist cub fans
  2. bobby crosby's not going to be working in the playoffs, i guess he's done now. not that he's really any good, it just seems like he might be a better option than marco
  3. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi-0609100048sep10,1,1956873.column?coll=chi-sportsnew-hed Digging around I found this article from Phil Rogers about a week ago. The HS class may be better and it is certainly deeper, but as of right now the top three players in the draft have to be college guys, IMO. My top 10 would be something like: 1. Price 2. Brackman 3. Wieters 4. Harvey* 5. Main* 6. Beavan* 7. Jackson* 8. Burgess* 9. Arencibia 10. Schmidt Dont take them too seriously, but stars are HS. With the addition of any one of those 3, the cubs farm system might have a few bonafied bluechip prospects in the making in Pawelek, Veal, and our 2007 draftee. Certainly will elevate us up in the BA ranks. By the time BA ranks the Cubs 07 draftee as part of their system, if Veal is a blue chipper, he should have graduated to the big leagues. It is possible to Veal to play at bluechip status from here on out and only reach the big club in late 2009. He just turned 22 a few days ago. veal's going to have to get hurt or suck to not be here until 2009. if he's pitching well, he'll keeping moving this way. if he's not, he won't be a bluechip pitcher.
  4. those guys on the message board are all cub fans who were getting loaded at wrigley all day
  5. that site is fantastic, thanks
  6. if he wanted steroids, all he'd need to do would be to call ryan howard
  7. there was a decent amount of stuff coming out about swisher and blanton being big party guys a couple months ago, so this isn't really all that surprising.
  8. Go me. congrats2u!
  9. Then you must be rooting for Syracuse because they are not in the top ten....I have no idea why. Wow...no Illinois guys out there, just basketball fans, eh? You're the 3 point favorite so far. I'm here, I just don't want to be accused of being fairweather when I run into hiding for losing to [expletive] Syracuse. Who knows who is going to win this game but at least you and I can exchange pleasantries while the others are hiding for some reason will be razzed or can say nothing about this game when they come out of the shadows during the basketball season. I think I know exactly the reason why an Illinois or Syracuse football fan would be hiding right now. I really can't believe U of I is the favorite. i want to exchange pleasantries too! i also am curious as to why u of i is the favorite. the only way i can envision illinois ever beating a non-eiu team is if the opposition doesn't understand the rule about quarterbacks being allowed to make forward progress and is simply confused about what is happening as isaiah williams runs by them.
  10. someone who only cares about furthering the interests of capitalist investors jr will rejoice
  11. Not to be argumentative, but the possibility of one year being non-representative is the reason I gave the average PF from 2001-2006, a time period you described as subjective. A larger sample size is almost always better than a smaller sample size. park factors actually do jump around quite a bit. using anything less than three years is generally considered a bad idea.
  12. anybody who disagrees with this is really just kidding himself Thats just not true. The Irish fell in the polls by not winning by enough last week. It would be idiotic to not "run up the score" every chance you get. The margin of victory impacts polls, why stop playing just because the outcome isn't in doubt? The margin of victory also impacts the BCS. Play 100% till it's over.
  13. new favorite post of all time
  14. anybody who disagrees with this is really just kidding himself
  15. By the way, are you saying it is totally fine for Joe to run up 56 in the first half on Illinois with his starters, as long as he doesn't pull that in the second half? Somehow that is fine, but Weis lacks class. Penn State didn't throw the ball the entire 2nd half of that game. What do you want them to do? If Illinois is bad enough to give up 56 points in a half of football, that's their problem... Penn State wasn't trying to rub their nose in it and they took their foot off the gas before the first half was even through. That's different than keeping your first string in and going for 4th down conversions when up 31 in the 4th quarter. I think beating a ranked team by 20+ points is impressive enough for the voters. a friend of mine and i actually did discuss afterwards how we sort of felt bad for penn state because it was clear that they were nice and had no ill will against us and didn't mean to keep scoring, but unless they decided to just start falling down, they were going to keep scoring and that was all there was to it.
  16. yeah, if frank gets a double, something went wrong. it's completely routine for him to hit a line drive into the corner and there's never any consideration of second base. he did score from first on a double last week though. it was pretty awesome.
  17. it seems as though you are saying lee is worth 1.5 runs (the average of the 1 or 2 runs we lost the games by) a game in 60% of games. in the other 40%, let's just say he's worth nothing. 60% of the games = 97.2 1.5 runs times 97.2 = 145.8 145.8 divided by 10 runs per win = 14.58 derrek lee was worth 13 wins last year. this scenario requires him to be considerably more valuable this season, and it's important to keep in mind that i'm being very generous in assigning no value to the other 40% of his games. crediting him for the positive things he does there would only makes it appear even more dubious that he could potentially be worth so much. single players just simply are not worth as much as people naturally assume.
  18. i really thought he had done enough by moving to the bullpen a few years ago, but it's clear that he's still too much for the rest of the league despite only throwing 4 innings a week.
  19. you might as well ask why jesus is so popular if true, it really puts the cubs season in perspective. i couldn't care less about them now. : (
  20. when i wanna get bored i crank up the beatles they suck, dont vote for them
  21. I VOTE QUEEN TO TAKE DA LEAD
  22. you like them better personally or you think Metallica are actually better songwriters-musicmakers? i'm not sure there is a difference. applause for the dob this tournament is fun because it creates conversation and stuff, but at the end of the day, if i say that the beatles aren't any good because i don't like them, i'm not wrong.
  23. it sure is going to be awesome next year when we're spending 25 million dollars on relief pitchers
  24. ugh bad matchup i think the beatles are the only band left that i'd take metallica over, but oh well.
