    The one thing we went off script on was the 4-year offer to Tanner Scott which with all things considered, was as good or better than the Dodgers offer, but luckily, he chose the Dodgers - cause he was AWFUL, and now they have him 3 more years.

    they don't have enough to outbid the Dodgers and Yankees they just don't that's a fact. If either of those teams wants Tucker the Cubs can't outbid them. The Cubs are rich and able in a vacuum but there is always context aside from just they won't. In this context vs. the Yankees and more specifically and the Dodgers, they can't. They do have enough to do all the other things you mention and again and you are right there are reasons beyond being financially able and capable that the Cubs choose to hide behind in going after free agent talent. Again, both can be true.

    Having enough and having much more than enough are two different things both practically and in reality. In this case the Yankees and Dodgers can outspend the Cubs any time they want, that's just a fact, especially the Dodgers - that t.v. contract puts them in the position of being able to throw away money at will. Now the Cubs won't even try against those two teams if it comes to it - and that's disappointing - I get it, but both things can be true and are. The fact that we won't go over the luxury tax is to me pretty pathetic. But let's not confuse that with outspending the Yankees and Dodgers. Honestly, from my perspective a 10 year $400 million dollar deal for what I just saw this past year would be throwing money away. I'd much rather spread that out among multiple players to improve our roster. Now if you want to say the Cubs won't do that either, I couldn't argue that - they have not shown they will in quite a while.

    Agreed, if anything Tuck cost himself a lot of $$ with how this year played out and if he'd really be rolling the dice signing a 2-3 year deal that it would cost him even more down the line. The Yanks or Dodgers will pay him long term, they both have the means to eat the money down the line if things go badly, and things might.

    Yeah, if you had told me we'd win 92 games and a playoff series without Steel and with our big offseason acquisition basically being pretty mediocre to bad or else hurt half the season, I'd say it was a success but not being able to score the last game and not getting an extra arm or position player either in the off-season or at the deadline that might have made the difference leaves me feeling a bit empty. Mixed bag for me.

    I know many here have expressed trepidation Re: Rea but his outing earlier in this series was fine even though it was not what one would consider a high leverage situation you can bet the Brewers were not letting up. Also, they will definitely use Misiorowski - and I still have not forgotten his celebration dance at our expense and neither I bet, have the Cubs. He'll walk a few if we let him.

    Totally agree, the Wrigley crowd played a role in both wins - no doubt. Murphy even alluded to it.

    His stuff looked ELECTRIC. Brewer hitters seemed at a loss!! And man.....Boyd......I thought the tank was empty but that dude is a flat out competitor! WOW!

    Fair enough, bottom line we can't go 8 straight innings without sniffing a run again. Just can't.

    Yeah, man Anderson hung several pitches that we did nothing with. The one PCA threw his bat on in frustration was a classic cement mixer you couldn't have put on a tee any better. Quintana is not as bad as some make him out to be - I think we just still resent the trade. He has a career ERA of 3.7 and has not had an ERA over 4 since 2022 and he must have been hurt that year as he only pitched in 5 games.

    Well, he certainly thinks he's well connected, I've seen him be wrong enough to not believe that.

    Honestly, I don't trust anything Jesse Rogers stated. But it's not exactly something 90% of us here already believed anyway so not exactly going out on a limb - but whatever sources he claims to have - in my experience have not done him well in comparison to other guys like him that make a living trying to break news.

    I don't know that I agree that the Cubs looked loose on Thursday, maybe when the game was over. But I get what you are saying. I just think the Brew Crew looked looser from game one first pitch, but you are probably right.

    Doesn't it seem like the Brewers are loose and having fun and the Cubs are tight and stressed? I mean from jump! The contrast of the in game interviews with Murphy and CC illustrate that perfectly. Does that matter? I don't know, but sure seems like it. When you say the thoughts have crept in.....this is part of it I do believe.

    I went to sleep right after the 3-run bomb to make it 7-3. It seemed obvious to me we were not going to string together a rally against the hard throwing kid that taunted us after his first inning. And it was absolutely no surprise what happened to Shota, it's the same thing he's been doing for the 6 outings or more before this one. I mean it's unfortunate the two hits before the first homer were jam shot bloopers, but he also gave up 2 home runs and that was absolutely predictable. What else would you have done is always the refrain. I suggested here yesterday a bullpen game -our pen was all rested we have tomorrow off, and the pen has certainly fared better of late than Shota. I thought Shota would have fared better game 3 in the colder - pitcher friendly weather or Wrigley tomorrow. Alas, Palencia throws a tomato over the plate 0-2 so maybe that would not have worked either but I never for a minute felt comfortable with Shota starting this game.

    I'd love to know if we even talked and if so who they asked for, then we could all really weigh in on whether we thought the cost too high or not.

    Exactly, we new before the season started we'd need another starter and that was before Steele got hurt. Again, we were VERY fortunate Boyd made the whole season and Horton pitched as many innings as he did and was as good as he was.

    Yeah, I'm about in the same boat. My expectations are not very high to win tonight and I'm not very positive about our chances tonight and therefore of course the series. But let's play the game and see, I'd just like to go down swinging both figuratively and literally.

    This, we were VERY fortunate Boyd made it the whole year and Horton pitched as many innings as he did. I did not expect either, nor did I think it reasonable to expect. I honestly thought we'd need two SP's at the deadline.

    You make good points. I just REALLY don't like Shota here and I think it will end up being a bullpen game by default anyway. I just think Wednesday's the much better option for him, but hey, there's a guy we're paying a lot to make the decision and he has.

    Fair enough, I think we are going to go bullpen early regardless of whether you call it a bullpen game or not, I doubt Shota makes it past the third inning, but - my next option would be start Rea tonight. I am really uneasy about starting Shota, just as most here were uneasy about starting Boyd Saturday. I just think Shota's best shot off succeeding is Wednesday, and we should put our guys in the best situations to succeed. We should be able to score some runs tonight, SHOULD being the emphasis. So that is just as important if not more.
