  1. No way I see us winning a bidding war with the Phillies. First raise - we will fold not call.
  2. Not necessarily a fan of the moves you suggest, but I agree they need to get past their self-imposed ban of going over the first level of the LT. I still don't think they will do it, but I'd love if they would prove me wrong.
  3. Good point, we lost game 5 because of the offense, not the pitching. But we did start Boyd on short rest game 1. Could another pitcher have made a difference ther? Absolutely.
  4. Yeah, don't worry about saving $ for the deadline, you never know what that market will be then, more certainty now. Go for it now.
  5. That is kind of amazing, pretty hard to do I would think. He was really bad for Seattle down the stretch of the regular season. Did have one big homer in the playoffs off of Diaz but even post season BA was .213 with a .275 OBP in 47 At bats and struck out 18 of those 47 at bats. Hard pass and for me an easy pass.
  6. Agreed - sure there are questions on how many innings Horton and Steele can pitch and can Boyd replicate last year - but don't sleep on Wiggins coming up some time next year and contributing.
  7. Without knowing the cost yet - in a vacuum - this pleases me.
  8. Tucker was below average in right last year, the numbers bear that out. Seiya was at least better last year than in 24 and honestly I watched most every game, I don't think there was much drop of at all between he and Tucker there.
  9. I'll say this - the market cooled considerably for him. Astro fans were rationalizing like he went there because Boras was a Kikuchi agent too and they liked the Stros did to develop him and that Imai was betting on himself, yada, yada, yada. But had he been able to get a deal like early projections indicated I think he would have taken that. Some teams, not just the Cubs backed off.
  10. I think both can be true.....The Brewers consistently beating us spending a lot less is discouraging and the stubborn stance to seemingly refuse to exceed the first level of the luxury tax (except by accident in 2024) since covid is frustrating. I can accept that there are some teams and ownership groups that are richer and can spend more than ours, - some think we can and should spend like those teams.....I'm neither asking or expecting that, but I want them to if it comes down to it and we can get a player that could make a significant difference, but that we might have to exceed that first level........just do it....prove us fans wrong!!
  11. There are only about 4 or 5 teams right now willing to do something like that, but Toronto seems to maybe want to be one of those 4 or 5 now.
  12. This is more what I think the Cubs interest in Bichette is like. Would love to be wrong.
  13. I guess we are splitting hairs a bit on terminology and language, but to me serious is making an offer that is market competitive and not just what we (meaning our front office) think market competitive should be. I would be floored if we make an offer Bichette's folks seriously consider and to me that would be "serious".
  14. Yeah, but interested and serious are two different things.
  15. I'm down with this, I'm actually more worried about where the offense is going to come from, we were pretty mediocre offensively when Tuck was either hurt or mediocre himself in the second half.
  16. The Athletic is the only source projecting something that seems excessive - 8 years - $190 million - the Cubs I think would be out if it gets to that, but they are the only source projecting near that many years and $$.
  17. Bull, I'm not going to prepare for that as I don't want to do that to myself, but I would be ecstatic to be wrong I can assure you.
  18. They absolutely should.....but I have little expectation they will.
  19. I honestly have no issue with not considering Tucker, I just don't believe he's going to age well and all accounts are he's going to want 10-11 years. Why offer some half ass contract you know won't get it done just to try to appease a fan base that will call it out as such anyway? But I do want to use the money to get some talent and quit being so annoyingly selective and cautious as to miss out on anything other than value pick ups you hope play above projections. It's like we are trying to Out-Milwaukee - Milwaukee - and they are whipping us spending half of what we are.
  20. I'd use another term, like disappointing.
  21. Yes, I'm good with 90 wins in the regular season in a vacuum. I'll take that every year. It's just the idea of building a team projectable to 87-88 wins each and every year and hoping on that....and if that's indeed the m.o. of the front office I do have some reservations about it.
  22. I agree, but I did say 87-90 - splitting hairs yes, but honestly to me at least, it seems they would be fine with 87. But for me if you go in with that projection as a goal, and I kinda think that's really what our front office is shooting for now, you don't always meet or exceed that projection - sometimes you fall short. We exceeded last year. That won't always happen.
  23. This^^^^ I am of the mind of several media outlets on this who have said the goal is to field a roster projected to win 87-90 games each year hoping to exceed those projections and maybe make a Diamondback like run to the WS every 4-5 years or so.
  24. I'm not saying Bruce is a shill for the Cubs because Marquee is paying him....but I will say because of that realI don't give much value to any takes of his.
  25. I agree it does, but I also don't expect our front office to do that and would be genuinely SHOCKED if they did.
