Chicago Cubs Select Dominick Reid With Pick No. 90 in 2025 MLB Draft
Jeremy Nygaard posted an article in MLB Draft
The Cubs went off script with their third pick of the night, selecting Abilene Christian right-hander Dominick Reid. He didn't make an appearance on our final Big Board and Mock Draft, which covered the top 135 prospects in the draft. Still, he's got a devastating changeup and impressive control, and the Cubs were always going to select an under-slot college arm on the first day of the draft. If he can add a few ticks to his fastball and discover a usable third pitch, he's got mid-rotation upside. Given his high floor, he should rise pretty quickly through the system. From MLB.com's draft profile of Reid: What do you think of the Cubs' selection of Reid? Do you like the pick, or is too far of a reach? Let us know in the comments! -

The 2025 MLB Draft will again feature just 20 rounds, but there has been a format change. After downsizing from a two-day, 40-round draft to a three-day, 20-round draft, Major League Baseball has now gone to a two-day, 20-round draft. The first three rounds (which is a round longer than before) will happen later today, beginning at 5 p.m. You can catch it live on MLB Network and ESPN. The Destination: The Show crew would like to invite you to join us live as we cover the entirety of the first three rounds. The last 17 rounds will take place tomorrow beginning at 10:30 a.m. There hasn't been a 17-round draft day in a while, but rest assured — there used to be 20-round days, so North Side Baseball will have the capacity to cover the duration. The Cubs will make three selections on Day One. 17th overall (1st round) 56th overall (2nd round) 90th overall (3rd round) The Cubs will have the 9th-smallest bonus pool ($9,636,800) in baseball. Of course, they have exceeded their pool and gone into the tax every year since the current rules were put in place. Once again, North Side Baseball will feature the Cubs Draft Tracker, which will be kept up-to-date not only during the draft but through the entire signing period. So keep coming back for updates!

Cubs alliviate salary with Cody Bellinger trade
Jeremy Nygaard posted a video in Chicago Cubs Videos
The Cubs have the room they want to spend to make their final additions to their roster after trading away Cody Bellinger and $5 million on his contract to the New York Yankees. -
It's still early but there are list from MLB Pipeline and Baseball America that already have ranked 100 prospects in this year's draft class. Will Ethan Holliday remain the top prospect as the 2025 prep and college seasons begin, or will another name rise to the top between now and draft day.

Roki Saski will be the most sought-after International free agent this off-season and his 30-day window to negotiate and make a deal with teams is now open. Who are the favorites to pursue Saski and could any team make a surprise offer that brings Saski to their rotation?

Ten rounds down, ten rounds to go for the 2024 MLB Draft. It's been a life-changing event for 315 young men so far; there will be 300 more lives changed on Tuesday afternoon. Keep it tuned to Northside Baseball for live updates throughout the remainder of the draft. Today's portion of the draft, which will conclude with rounds 11 through 20, will begin at 1 p.m. CT. Keep up to date with the Cubs Draft Tracker. One reminder: players selected on Day 3 can sign for up to $150,000 without it impacting the team's bonus pool. Any dollars above that threshold will count toward the cap. For example, if a player today signs for $200k, it will count $50k toward the team's bonus pool. What do you think after the first two days? Leave your thoughts below. 11 (332) - Eli Lovich, OF, Blue Valley West (KS) HS 18 years old. 6-4, 185. #268 on the Consensus Big Board. Most scouts believe that the 6-foot-4, 175-pound Lovich isn't physically ready for pro ball and would be better off attending Arkansas, but there are a couple of clubs who might pay him enough to lure him away from college. The teams that are on Lovich like his left-handed swing and athleticism, and think he might have solid tools across the board once he's physically developed. Others think that's a deep projection and would like to see him prove himself with the Razorbacks. If he gets drafted, it will be as a hitter, but he's also a three-pitch left-hander with an upper-80s fastball who might be something on the mound once he gets stronger. - MLB.com 12 (362) - Daniel Avitia, RHP, Grand Canyon 21 years old. 6-4, 200. 13 (392) - Evan Aschenbeck, LHP, Texas A&M 23 years old. 6-2, 200. (Senior) 14 (422) - Cameron Sisneros, 1B, East Tennessee State 23 years old. 6-2, 230. (Senior) 15 (452) - Hayden Frank, LHP, Lipscomb 21 years old. 6-6, 222. 16 (482) - Christian Gordon, LHP, VCU 23 years old. 6-0, 180. (5th year senior) 17 (512) - Ben Johnson, RHP, Georgia Southern 22 years old. 6-3, 178. (5th year senior) 20 (602) - Brayden Risedorph, RHP, Indiana 21 years old. 6-3, 230. The Cubs added two players on Sunday night and will add eight more on Monday. This article will be updated with each Cubs pick, so check back often. Today's portion of the draft, which will include rounds 3 through 10, will begin at 1 p.m. CT. Keep up to date with the Cubs Draft Tracker. A quick recap from yesterday: 1 (14) - Cam Smith, 3B, Florida State 21 years old. 6-3, 224. #18 on the Consensus Big Board Draft Article / Draft Tracker 2 (54) - Cole Mathis, 1B, College of Charleston 20 years old. 6-1, 210. #68 on the Consensus Big Board Draft Article / Draft Tracker 3 (90) - Ronny Cruz, SS, Miami (FL) Christian School 17 years old. 6-2, 170. 4 (120) - Ty Southisene, SS, Basic (NV) HS 19 years old. 6-0, 215. #159 on the Consensus Big Board Southisene is a prep hitter out of Nevada. While it's an undersized frame, there's a lot to like about a solid all round profile, particularly offensively. Southisene has an above-average hit tool that may become plus in time. It's excellent bat to ball skills, combined with good manipulation and a discerning eye at the plate. He can hit for some power to the pull side but this will likely only grade out as fringe average when its all said and done. There's above average foot speed and a solid glove and arm in the profile, too. Southisene is likely to end up somewhere in the dirt, most likely second base long term. He's currently committed to the University of Tennessee. - Consensus Big Board 5 (153) - Ariel Armas, C, San Diego 21 years old. 6-0, 185. 6 (182) - Ryan Gallagher, RHP, UC Santa Barbara 21 years old. 6-3, 195. 7 (212) - Ivan Brethowr, OF, UC Santa Barbara 21 years old. 6-6, 250. #256 on the Consensus Big Board A product of the same Kansas high school that produced former first-round fireballer Riley Pint, Brethowr provides more proof that they grow them big in that part of the country. The 6-foot-6 slugging outfielder began his college career at Arizona State, but after getting limited playing time as a freshman in 2022, he transferred to UC Santa Barbara and earned All-Big West First Team honors as a sophomore. He hasn't taken a big step forward in his junior season but he does provide a power bat possibility in the middle rounds. One of the most physical hitters in the country, Brethowr offers serious raw power from the right side of the plate, with some scouts thinking there might be 70 raw pop in his bat -- and it does show up to his pull side. Whether he can get to it consistently remains the question. While he's cut his strikeout rate down considerably this year, he continues to show a little bit of a slow trigger with the bat, and there could be more production unlocked with some swing adjustments. In the past, Brethowr has run well, especially for someone his size, but some lower-half injuries have slowed him down and he's likely to keep trending in that direction as he matures. He's limited to an outfield corner and has the raw arm strength to fit there. The team that takes him on Day 2 will be hoping it can maximize his power potential. - MLB.com 8 (242) - Edgar Alvarez, 1B, Nicholl State 23 years old. 6-4, 225. (5th-year senior) 9 (272) - Brooks Caple, RHP, Lamar 21 years old. 6-6, 230. (Senior) 10 (302) - Matt Halbach, 3B, San Diego 21 years old. 6-3, 215. Try this: https://northsidebaseball.com/mlb-baseball-mock-draft-order-2024/ The largest gaps (by consensus, on the board) are between 9 and 10 and 14 and 15, After that, it's a pretty narrow range until 33.

Don't love the move from the player. Think its bad advice from the agent. Must have made his bonus demands very clear... and very high.
