  1. now, are we getting back to rhetoric or did you want to talk about the weather?
  2. You could say it was mediocre based on the ERs, but he was pretty much walking a tight rope all game... lots of baserunners yeah, but he was pitching against our legendary offense, right? wait, aren't we adjusting for team skill-level, here or what?
  3. and he called me ridiculous. i've never been an optimist, but at least i'm not a meatball. I called you ridiculous for acting as though the Cubs are just kidding themselves and are just waiting to be overtaken by the godly Brewers. Why am I a meatball? And did I say C.C. hasn't been dominant? Nope, I sure didn't. You called him automatic (which was clearly innaccurate) and I pointed out that he's had the advantage of facing some terrible offenses lately. In his 3 starts against good offenses (which, again, is was what I was talking about) he has been good in one and very shaky in the other two. Not automatic. first, we haven't had a 9-inning shutout all season from a starter. second, see above. Do they give extra points for those? like i said, calling it simply "good" is being intellectually dishonest for the sake of argument.

Not automatic. first, we haven't had a 9-inning shutout all season from a starter, good is an understatement. second, see above. he gave up 2 runs on 5 hits in 6 innings. mediocre? against our offense he allowed 3 runs in 6.2, bad? hardly. that's just stupid.
  5. We don't want the Cubs to win the division and play Arizona. We're winning the wild card and will be facing Philly, anyway. Sulley's got me convinced. Well, yeah. They've got Sheets and Sabathia and those are 2 automatic wins every 5 days! well, sabathia is automatic, at least. Except for when he faces a decent offense. he shut out st. louis and had a quality start aginst us and colorado, all decent offenses. I know. So in his 3 starts against decent offenses, he was great, mediocre, and bad. Not exactly "automatic". how was he bad in any of those starts? he wasn't even mediocre. you're being silly.
  6. Who cares really, all their medals are in crappy judged "events", or weightlifting. i wish we could beat communists at anything, though. it would make me feel so much better about my own mode of production. what's their incentive, anyway? Survival and what's the incentive of those threatening their lives? those folks are doing all the work anyways.
  7. Well, since the Cubs aren't going to win the division, gotta keep an eye out on the Wild Card race. you're a little late on that one. he took a different approach, though... yeah, but his name is chuckywang. You got a problem with that? no, not at all.

  10. have we beaten china in anything that they're actually good at?

  15. We don't want the Cubs to win the division and play Arizona. We're winning the wild card and will be facing Philly, anyway. Sulley's got me convinced. yeah, don't worry about it. the wild card is the way to go anyway.
  16. i made a prediction, i'm not declaring myself God.
  17. wait, why do we care about the la-philly game again?
  18. Does the level of competition not count? they're winning every game against inferior competition. that's what playoff teams do. i still think that they overtake us, and i don't think that's so crazy to believe. And you still have provided no substance to your claims. Why are they a better team than the Cubs? The Cubs have a better rotation, a better offense, a better bullpen, better defense, and more depth. We're better them in every facet of the game. It's just a defense mechanism. Lots of Cubs fans have it... expect the worst and be pleasantly surprised if it doesn't happen. Kind of a crappy way to enjoy being a fan, though, IMO. do you honestly think that i wouldn't help it if i could? every time i start to believe, lucy pulls the football out of the way. you act like someone chooses the kind of fan they are, like the team doesn't choose it for them. but still, this amuses me, if only for a short while.

And you still have provided no substance to your claims. Why are they a better team than the Cubs? The Cubs have a better rotation, a better offense, a better bullpen, better defense, and more depth. We're better them in every facet of the game. i can't explain it, on paper, the cubs are the best team in the nl, but how in the hell are they only 3 games up on a team who is obviosuly so much worse? at this point in the season, sometimes numbers don't make the difference. meanwhile sabathia has pitched a million innings in a row and they're winning every single game that they play, regardless of competition. all they can do is beat the team placed in front of them, and they're beating their brains in.
  20. Does the level of competition not count? they're winning every game against inferior competition. that's what playoff teams do. i still think that they overtake us, and i don't think that's so crazy to believe.
  21. all i know is that the brewers have gone 8-1 and then 8-2 sandwiched around the cubs series. and i'm not prepared to say that just because we swept them in a very big series that we are a better team. you have to admit that they are rolling right now. rolling.
  22. dude, why is it so hard to believe that the brewers will win the division? it's august and they're going to be 3 games out. it's not like i'm predicting that the pirates are going to win the division. i don't get why that's so unbelievable. Because the Cubs are clearly the better team and it makes no sense for someone to be sure that the worse team that's 3 games behind is going to prevail? Sure, it can happen, but it would definitely be an upset. so, when my prediction comes true, it'll just be a fluke? sheets and sabbathia are like automatic wins right now. that's 2 for sure victories every 5 games. Ben Sheets in his last 8 starts (actual runs, not earned runs, since we're talking about how the team might do in his starts): 7 IP, 5 R 5 2/3 IP, 1 R 6 IP, 3 R 5 IP, 4 R 7 IP, 3 R 5 1/3 IP, 6 R 6 IP, 3 R 9 IP, 0 R The Brewers are 4-4 in his last 8 starts, including 1-2 in his last 3 starts. That doesn't scream automatic win. you got me there.
  23. all of that and still no one can beat them. Who was the team that whipped their ass in a 4 game beatdown again? I think it was something like 31-11 in the 4 game set. The team that beat them escapes me. we're number one! we're number one! Didn't think you knew the answer but yes, the Cubs are number one. Check the division standings. Or see the best run differential in baseball if you want to see just how #1 they are... :-" 4 game lead in the loss column is all that matters. Perhaps you know which team it was that whipped the Brewers in 4 at the end of July.? 8-) and we got swept by the white sox, too. they must be loads better than us.
