  1. if phelps trained for the 50 and 100 free, would he win them? he's not as large as bernard or vandenloogenhoogen or popov or hall, but he gave sullivan all he could handle in the first leg of 4x100.
  2. communists never lose. It's too bad the college kids protesting in Tiananmen Square didn't know that before they were run over by tanks. i'm glad this deserved two responses. Make it three. Any reason to quote Winston Churchill is a valid one. i don't get it.
  3. there's this one guy on the argentine team that just looks abnormal. i mean, something about him is just off. part of it is that he's foreign, so he's just weird based on that, but the other part is that he looks like some sort of arrogant foreign a-hole, so i couldn't leave it simply at that. i had to find out what was so bizarre about this guy, why did he bother me? and then i found out what his name was, and it was fabricio raul jesus oberto and then i was like: "ohhhhhhhhhhhh."
  4. i had a dream that the cubs had an off day and that the cardinals asked him to play for them on that day and he did.
  5. noc playing well thus far.
  6. i can't stand any of the other argentine players, though. and i hope scola craps his pants on the court and must live with the shame forever. i really really really can't stand scola. please someone elbow him in the face.
  7. yeah, assuming health, tez could be the #1 pick in the 2010 draft. he may be the most physically giften player in the country.
  8. communists never lose. http://www.scene-stealers.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/18818686.jpg yeah, but at least communism got rid of carl weathers.

  11. and he called me ridiculous. i've never been an optimist, but at least i'm not a meatball. I called you ridiculous for acting as though the Cubs are just kidding themselves and are just waiting to be overtaken by the godly Brewers. Why am I a meatball? And did I say C.C. hasn't been dominant? Nope, I sure didn't. You called him automatic (which was clearly innaccurate) and I pointed out that he's had the advantage of facing some terrible offenses lately. In his 3 starts against good offenses (which, again, is was what I was talking about) he has been good in one and very shaky in the other two. Not automatic. first, we haven't had a 9-inning shutout all season from a starter, good is an understatement. second, see above. he gave up 2 runs on 5 hits in 6 innings. mediocre? against our offense he allowed 3 runs in 6.2, bad? hardly. that's just stupid. Wait, what does the CUbs not having a shutout all season have to do with this discussion? You're taking everything I said out of context and now calling me names because I'm contesting your innacuracies. You said that he is automatic. I said that he has only been automatic against bad offenses (note that I never said he has been terrible against good offense). Yes, 6.2 innings and 3 runs is good (thought not "automatic"), and 6 innings 2 runs is good (again, not "automatic") but that doesn't tell the whole story. In his start against the Cubs he allowed 11 baserunners. That's "automatic"? In the start against Colorado, he allowed 10 baseunners in 6 innings. That's "automatic"?. The fact is, the only time he's been great against a good offense was in St Louis. The rest of his dominant performances have come against some brutal offensive teams. So yeah, he's automatic....if he's facing a crappy team or if you call 11 baserunners in 6 innings "automatic". Sabathia is great. He's nowhere near automatic. You can keep calling me names if it makes you feel like you're more correct though. he's been pretty near an automatic win every time he goes out there. he can only dominate the teams that he's pitching against, and one of those teams that he dominated has been a top 3 offense. it's almost impossible to dominate everyone, but, like i said, he hasn't given up more than 3 runs against anyone and he only did that once.
  12. yeah, because we never beat the communists at anything. do you want me to put that in green, or can you detect the sarcasm all by yourself?
  13. Who cares really, all their medals are in crappy judged "events", or weightlifting. i wish we could beat communists at anything, though. it would make me feel so much better about my own mode of production. what's their incentive, anyway? Survival and what's the incentive of those threatening their lives? those folks are doing all the work anyways. Public humiliation if they fail. Loss of standing in the elite class (which is supposed to be an oxymoron for communism but somehow it never works out that way). why would it be humiliating to fail when there is no real incentive to succeed anyway? the loss of standing in the elite class bs isn't really worth responding to, try again. Don't need to try again. I'm not the one turning an olympic athletic competition into a referendum on the glories of communism, you are. You're holding the chalice of ridiculousness in this thread, by far. what are you talking about, psycho? Ooooh, personal insult from the resident commie. Classy. forgive me if you took that personally, i call everyone psycho when their imaginations run away with them. i honestly don't know what you're talking about. you're getting a little defensive about this capitalism vs. communism thing, but that's fairly typical, don't feel bad.
  14. for the record, i was being facetious when i asked why we couldn't beat the communists. then, i wondered how communists succeed in any event because they obviously have no incentive to do anything but get fat and live off the government.

  17. i think greco-roman wrestling has, by far, the most idiotic and confusing scoring system. how can you lose if you're winning at the end of a period? i've seen this twice.
  18. the dynamite kid just got destroyed by some nobody from nowhere in greco-roman.
  19. True, but if there are going to be judged competitions, have an analyst in there that understands the nuances of the sport and can explain the judging results better than "X had a fall and a step on the dismount, but Y had just the step on the dismount, but somehow X's score was higher and I don't like it." i think they explained it very well. the chinese had insanely high degrees of difficulty.
  20. not really, that only happens in capitalist countries dominated by crime syndicates.
  21. I know NBC hasn't been talking about it much, but this Michael Phelps dude is doing okay. Yeah but the commies aren't really trying so it doesn't count. trying? you can't try if you aren't even in the races, can you?
  22. but again, facing a legendary offense it was pretty good.
  23. wait, but did you say he's been "dominant" or were you just making chit-chat?
  24. well, he's been automatic in the fact that he hasn't given up more than 3 runs in any of his brewer starts and has 2 complete game shutouts, something that we haven't done all year. so yeah, he's been more automatic than any of our aces, i guess.
