As I expected Jacque the Drama Queen wasn't really injured last night, other than a bruised ego. I'm guessing if he has another terrible game he'll start wincing again.

It's his pride that's hurt. You see this stuff when an athlete has a really horrible day. He wants the sympathy/excuse that playing hurt provides. He didn't fake that look on his face when he caught that fly ball. It struck me as a drama queen performance and it was way too convenient.

make that 3 in 3 pitches. why oh why oh why is he starting against a lefty???????? He was 5/15 against Mulder going into this game. sample size. i trust his career numbers against lefties much more than a few lucky hits against one lefty. Not to mention Mulder's excellent overall numbers vs. LH batters.

That was seriously one of the ugliest strikeouts I've ever seen. You could tell after the first pitch Jones had no chance.

Maybe he's making up for bunting the first pitch of the game when everyone was expecting him to do so. I'd like to see the Cubs deal Pierre, Williams, Jones, Perez, Wiiliamson and Wood when he's off the DL in June/July. Go into rebuilding mode now? Hendry wants to keep his job, you know. He has to make a show of competing at least until the break. June/July are the break. Ah, I misunderstood. I thought you meant deal them all now except for Wood, then deal him too when he comes off the DL in June/July.

Neifi woulda had that, Hairston should be in RF.

This has nothing to do with post D-Lee. If he is in the lineup, the score is still 7-0. Lee would have hit a solo HR in the 1st inning.

I'm not a Neifi fan, but a much better lineup would have Neifi at 2B and Hairston in RF and Jones on the bench for PH duty late. Mulder vs. Jones is an absolutely hideous matchup that puts an offensive black hole at RF.

Mulder vs. LH batters in 2005: .201 .283 .317 Jacque Jones has no business being in this game as long as there's another Cubs outfielder who can walk and breathe.

After getting off to that 0-12 start, Jones has really started to turn it around. 04/08 - 04/19 AB R H 2B 3B HR TB RBI BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS Jones 20 3 6 0 0 1 9 3 2 5 0.300 0.364 0.450 0.814 I don't know if he can keep up that kind of production, but can we at least give him a little time to show what he can do before we throw him under the bus ? Jones has gotten exactly zero at bats vs. LHP thusfar. We'll see the real Jacque soon enough.

Houston has been playing the dregs of the NL so far (mostly at home in the offense box). We'll see how that holds up. Plus Ramirez, Jones and Pierre have yet to get going. And for the record, Dempster's numbers as a closer last year were better (and much better so far this year) than Lidge's. Check the link below. Cubs are well below average in # of PA's vs. LHP. Only 20.76% of the Cubs PA's have come vs. LHP thusfar. That won't last. As has been pointed out, the NL Central has a lot of LH SP's. Walker is due for a cooldown anyway, and more LHP will hasten it, and Jones is just plain awful vs. LHP. Wait til Ramirez heats up. I'm sure he will, but it won't be nearly enough to offset the other stuff I mentioned plus Lee's absence. Ramirez and Pierre haven't heated up yet, and although Jones sucks, he doesn't quite suck as bad as he's shown. I think we can weather this, especially if we get better pitching. Through a quirk of scheduling we've had very limited exposure to LHP thusfar, but that won't last. We're going to see just how bad Jones can be, and more LHP will hurt Walker and Pierre too. Wait til Walker and Cedeno cool off, which they will, since they can't possibly sustain their current numbers. Wait til we hit a stretch of LHP and we effectively have Jose Macias in RF. This offense is going to be brutal. If Hendry has a panic button he should push it now.
