  1. Neither is Aramis Ramirez, but we're hearing a lot about him. I just don't see why Hendry didn't trade Pierre on Jul. 31 if he was going to be so disinterested in him come October. It doesn't make sense and it's not what I expected.
  2. When Pierre was not traded at the deadline I expected he would be a focal point of attention as soon as the season ended. Instead, we hear nothing. Just seems odd to me.
  3. I don't think 5/70 will do it, certainly not for the Cubs. The Dodgers or Angels could match 5/70, and the Cubs will probably have to go higher because Aramis will want extra money to rejoin a bad team in a chilly stadium.
  4. Link. "Miserable"? I thought we had the ultimate player's manager.
  5. It is an overblown myth. Yeah, some people act like Aramis loafs on every play. On the great majority of plays he puts out a good effort, but I admit there were a few times this season when I got pretty ticked off watching Aramis dogging it. Doesn't mean I don't want him back.
  6. I don't know if I'd call them stupid. Aramis's lack of hustle is a character issue, and that makes it annoying, but annoyance is an emotional reaction and business decisions shouldn't be made on the basis of emotion. A lot of fans react with their gut and don't think this stuff through.
  7. I haven't heard anything about him lately. It's like he vanished off the face of the planet. Has Hendry made any statements about him?
  8. Aramis might just want the Cubs to put an offer on the table to establish a baseline for the bidding war to come. If I were Aram that's how I'd play it.
  9. Then I want Borowski in a landslide. Clutch dudes have icewater in their veins. Sweatiness = nonclutch. John Paxson always looked superclutch coming off the bench nailing a J with no sweat on his face. Of course he wasn't sweaty because he had just come off the bench, but that's not the point.
  10. The Dolphins are not a very good team, but I see it being closer than that. I'd say 24-10 I don't think so. The Bears have shown a willingness to run up the score on weak opponents and they've been dominant at home. If the Dolphins struggle early it will get ugly for them very quickly.
  11. Jim Hendry is glued to his TV screen.
  12. Kenny Lofton was ranked 6.3 points higher than Pierre, and Lofton doesn't have any more power than Pierre at this point in his career. Maybe career numbers come into play.
  13. If Aramis leaves, the Cubs might as well sell off Zambrano. There isn't much need for an impact starter on a crappy team. If the Cubs don't add any significant players AND lose Aramis, what will be Zambrano's inspiration to sign an extension on a sinking ship? Agreed. A Zambrano trade could rebuild the top levels of the Cubs minor league system as well. Not a chance in hell Jim is thinking that far ahead.
  14. On a scale from 9 to 10, 10 being super dumb, 1 being not dumb at all, how dumb are you?
  15. Glaring omissions: Picard Miller von Trapp
  16. Soriano is coming off a career year, not surprisingly also a contract year. His numbers from 2002-2005 were .275/.329/.519/.848. If he regresses back to that level he'll be a lousy bargain at $18M per year. Bear in mind he'll be 31 next January, so he could easily regress to below his 2002-2005 level. I want Soriano on the team at CF or 2B but not for $18M and a 5 year committment.
  17. I still think there's a reasonable chance Aramis comes back. Hendry really is desperate to save his job and has cash to spend. The Dodgers and Angels are more attractive desinations but Hendry could outbid them by a substantial margin. He's definitely what I would call a motivated buyer.
  18. So Derrek Lee is Clemenza? I hope so! He ended up on the winning team. Yeah, but in the movie Michael ran the family. The Cubs have Fredo running the show.
  19. The warm weather aspect may be important than we think. Aram had a miserable start in 2006 and in 2005 he didn't get hot until the last week of May. It's possible he believes the cold in Wrigley is keeping him from putting up the type of season numbers he's capable of, and it might even be true.
  20. How else does an organization demonstrate to a player they want to win? The organization hires a manager with a WS ring and publicly states they want to win and they will go after players that can help them win. I don't see how this 'wasn't the smartest thing'. If you state you have lots of $$ to spend and want to win now it lets someone in Aram's position know that he doesn't have to take a penny less than full market value in an extension contract.
  21. I'm guessing Dodgers or Angels. They both won lots of games in 2006 and have sunny warm weather to play in. The Cubs have ivy in the outfield.
  22. Why, that's Sammy money!! I want Soriano but not at that price.
