BS. Did you not see the quotes in the paper? They threw at Lee because Soriano pimped his HR on Friday. All the work DLee did last year to get back, and this fool thows one on his wrist? DLee did what I would expect from a guy who just had 4 months in rehab flash before his eyes. If you are going to come high and tight, you better expect some action. He completely lost his cool, and it's gonna cost this team big when they need him most (right now). I'd think he'll appeal until Ward and Ramirez come back. Yeah, he has to. We can't have all three of them out, particularly not if Soriano stays cold. The offense would be brutal.

The rules allow 72 hours to report, so Murton is not doing anything improper, but it's possible he is signaling some disgruntlement. If I were Murt I would be looking to join a different organization. There's no chance the Cubs view him as a long-term solution in RF, and LF is blocked for the next 8 years. He has no future here except as a platoon or bench player.

Stuff like this is a major reason why I don't like his contract. He's being paid huge money primarily for his ability to hit home runs but he's not very good at it when men are on base, which is unfortunate, because homers with runners on base are worth a hell of a lot more than homers with bases empty. That said, I love the hot streak.

we found a taker for neifi. We can find a taker for Jacque I've heard that logic before and I don't buy it. Taking on Neifi and his entire contract was a bizarre move by the Tigers and it doesn't mean that anyone will take Jones. If bizarre events could reliably be replicated they wouldn't be bizarre.

I agree you can't have a manager openly admitting he went into a game with the premeditated intent to cause an ugly scene and get ejected. It's arrogant and unprofessional. If a manager purposely does this stuff to fire up his team he should do everybody the courtesty of at least pretending it wasn't premeditated.

What was really amazing was that Leyland said he and the Tigers scouts were responsible for acquiring Neifi. Think about it: actual professional baseball scouts looked at Neifi Perez in mid-2006, with the way he was playing at the time, and advocated picking up the remaining $3 million on his contract. This, despite already having Omar Infante and Ramon Santiago. Even the most casual armchair Cubs fan knew this was a terrible idea.

I still haven't figured out how Charlie Hayes lasted 14 seasons in the big leagues. The guy just plain sucked and he was a fat slob. I'd like to hear Sheff's opinion. I bet he'd say coaches liked having Hayes around because he was an Uncle Tom. -

That's true, but in my time watching baseball I've found the cold hard percentages usually win out in the end.

yeah, this place has been all sunshine and optimism lately. thank goodness you're here to bring everyone back down to earth. I wish people would stop quoting him. I've got him on ignore, but I still end up seeing all his posts because people keep egging him on. :x How do you put someone on ignore? Just ignore the post's. I'm not sure why his posting upset's so many people? Because you can't read a gamethread without being bombared by hyperbolic one liners that just bore you to tears. Seriously, that guy gives pessimists a bad name.

They have to stop the bleeding right now, and I do mean now, to save the season. If they drop the next 3 games they will have to go 62-44 over the remainder of the season just to get the crummy 84 wins that would have taken the division last year. That's a .585 win%, which is a 95 win pace over 162 games. The Cubs are not nearly that good. Few teams are.

Cubs are at 22-31 as of this writing, 109 games left to play. I was thinking about final win totals and how these last 109 games would have to play out in terms of W-L and win%. final 109 game record wins and win% 90 68-41 0.624 89 67-42 0.615 88 66-43 0.606 87 65-44 0.600 86 64-45 0.587 85 63-46 0.578 84 62-47 0.569 83 61-48 0.560 82 60-49 0.550 81 59-50 0.541 Looking at these numbers really drills home how lucky the Cubs are to be in the NL Central. They'd already be buried in the AL and would be on life support in the other two NL divisions. Anything over 85 wins is going to be a major accomplishment. 90 is looking extremely unlikely. If a low 80's win total is enough for the NL Central pennant then I'd have to say the Cubs are still alive, but obviously they would need to play a lot better.

What's terrible is we have one of our better pitchers sliding headfirst into 3rd base. Not good. Dirty jerseys spark teams.

I did laugh at that. Really you don't even have to throw strikes. Just close to strikes. Braves' pitching coach will probably give James some guff, rightfully so. If you're an LHP it's pretty lame to pitch Jacque Jones like you're scared of him.

Not sure why James would nibble facing Jacque, who is terrible vs. LHP. Just throw strikes.

The bottom half of today's Cubs lineup definitely doesn't look like it came from a $115M payroll.

Soriano is going to be driving in a pitcher, a rookie catcher, and Jacque Jones (vs. LHP). If he actually does hit another home run it would be nice if somebody were on base.
