  1. That sounds about right. I can't imagine he would still command a top prospect. His numbers stink, his velocity is down, and it's too late in the season. Fighting a teammate didn't help either.
  2. Z could easily be put on the DL. His velocity has been down all year. The Cubs could just say it's the team's medical judgment that 15 days rest is the best way to help Z regain velocity. The Player's Union might bitch about it but they wouldn't be able to do anything to stop it.
  3. Boo. I wanted Eyre to pitch until he cried.
  4. 35 pitches for Eyre. Not enough IMO. Let him finish this game.
  5. Hopefully his arm will fall off. And he'll eat it. If it's glazed he will.
  6. I'd just let Eyre finish the game. If he has to throw 100 pitches so be it.
  7. Jeff and Edgar paddin' their numbaz. Good for them.
  8. Yeah, it's stats-padding time. This is when every hitter wants in the game.
  9. And to think some of us wanted a rebuilding year that included trading both these guys in the offseason.
  10. This has to be rock bottom. Nowhere to go but up.
  11. Marquis got 3/21 after a terrible season, and his ceiling is miles below Z's. I have to believe Z will get more than Jason F. Marquis.
  12. Scott "The Human White Flag" Eyre.
  13. Ah, a classic "where are all the . . .?" post. That takes me back to my cubs.com days. Good memories.
  14. Soon it'll be Eyre time. He's still good for eating some innings in blowouts.
  15. Benitez has been tolerably good vs. RH batters over the past few seasons. $333K is not expensive for a ROOGY, or for any other type of baseball player.
  16. I don't see how this is such a bad or reckless move for the Marlins at $333K. It's nothing like the gambles Hendry took on Kerry Wood, Wade Miller, or Mark Prior.
  17. Shoulda just written off 2007. We could have had a real good team in 2008 and none of these financial headaches that will linger well into the next decade.
  18. Your post is depressing. Hendry dumps all the guys you listed, creating multiple holes in an already hole-filled roster, just to get $9M. To make a significant improvement Hendry would have to get some mighty good bang for those bucks, and Hendry is not known for that. And what of 2009? IMO that's when things get really ugly even if you assume no major health issues or declining skills from the people already signed. Eating contracts and paying people to play for other teams in 2008 is going to make getting ready for 2009 a bigger challenge than it already is.
  19. Maybe it's true. Bruce at the Herald apparently heard something to the effect that Lou is not happy with Hendry's performance. Could be mutual. I don't suppose Bruce will reveal his source on this. http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/cubs.asp
  20. True. At the time I found it odd that so few here were dead set against the Soriano signing, and odd that even fewer were in favor of a rebuilding year. These still seem like sensible positions to me, would've expected more support for them.
  21. I agree it's too early to give up on account of the NL Central being just plain terrible. The Cubs would be in a deep hole in any other division but they're very much alive in the NLC.
  22. If the Cubs can't do it I hope the Pirates win the division. They've been down so long it would be cool to see them win something, even if they get swept in the postseason.
  23. I actually agree with the ARod critics. It's an unwritten but respected rule that you don't fake an infielder's "mine" call on a pop fly. Remember when Neifi had that habit of sneaking peeks back at the catcher when batting? There's no explicit rule against that either, but it's understood that you just don't do it. I always hated seeing Neifi do it and considered it an embarrassment for the Cubs. Watching ARod I had a similar reaction.
