  1. Ching made a tremendous play to turn a defender and Sanchez, but then he blew the easy part and hit the post. Overall, today he did very well, and at the top of his game he can be very McBride-like. But he isn't consistently that way. Ching didn't look too bad, all in all. He missed an easy puppy, and still needs to learn to finish. I'd rather have Ching in there over Johnson or Twellman. I think the US needs to look at perhaps making Beasley a forward in the Thierry Henry mold. He's certainly got the pace for it, if not the finishing instinct. The defense still needs a lot of work. No one marked anyone. It seemed that on every corner Mexico got a head on the ball, but couldn't direct it goalwards. Gooch looked better and I though Spector did a decent job against a tough Mexico left side, but Bocanegra and Bornstein were less than impressive. Bocanegra looks better than he is, in many ways, because he does recover well, kind of like Hejduk. That said, the US should have won this game about 4-1. Mexico's first goal was terrible. The midfield and defense simply fell asleep and let Mexico run through, but Howard was unbelievable on that shot near the end. Mexico did enough for a goal (and perhaps two). On the Beasley muff, Donovan made a nice pass and hit Beasley in stride. That was a gimme goal. End of story. Ching's, while tougher, was also an empty net and should have scored. I have never seen Ching finish anywhere near at the level that McBride did on a regular basis. I've seen him put himself in position to, I just think McBride was very underappreciated for what he did at a very consistant level. i was more referring to the holdup and aerial play of Mcbride and less to the finishing. I will definitely concede the point that Ching can't hold a candle to McHead in that regard. Also, Bornstein gets caught out of position and overplaying constantly, and a lot of Mexico's offense developed from that. I'm interested to see what Pearce looks like in the Copa America.

  3. I got a beer shower from afar. my buddy Yoaav got a direct beer shower. i didn't even bust out the "Puto marquez" chant.
  4. Holy crap what a game. My entire effing body hurts from the sheer energy expenditure of screaming and chanting and losing my mind. i think I'm gonna go lie down in my shower. Totally worth it. A fantastic win, even if we did look bad at times.
  5. I was on a website earlier - something like 101greatgoals.com, which does more than it says on the tin. I don't know how quickly it updates, but it seemed comprehensive. I'll have a look for the real address when I'm back at my computer. In the meantime, do a Youtube search for 'Quagriarella'. He's some hot tamale. To bad he wants to play for Juve.
  6. True, but do they have a first class striker ready to replace him? Is Theo Walcott the answer there? $16m is nice to have, but they need to make sure they have an offense or it's back to old-school, Lucky/Boring Arsenal. Anything that makes it more likely Arsene Wenger will cry every week makes me a happy man.
  7. Can we talk about the important part of this topic (i.e. the brawl in the UD)?
  8. Maybe he asked for some time off.
  9. That was right in front of me. Pitiful.
  10. T minus an hour until I leave for the stadium. My buddies and I are buying random meat at Jewel and then crashing a USA tailgate somewhere. Also we're all wearing red "let's make sexy time" shirts for no particular reason other than that they'r red and we find it amusing. Also I'm dying my hair blue.
  11. I long for the day we beat Mexico in their stadium. I can't even imagine what the reaction would be down there. It would be truly glorious. except for the dangerous riots.
  12. the "including children" part is hysterically bad. I am crying over here.
  13. I went to Notre Dame as a kid with my parents, and my dad got in a fight with a security guard because he stopped and put his flashers on to take a picture of the Golden Dome.
  14. Wow. I don't think we're that bad, but damn. I was amused.
  15. According to these guys, we're number 72.
  16. Every time he opens his mouth something stupid comes out of it. I suppose, though, if you didn't count Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham and Reading, then yeah, MLS teams could compete. you forgot bolton, portsmouth, and newcastle (with a healthy owen) on that list. Also Everton. Well, pretty much everyone that doesn't get relegated at the end of the season. Mmmm, even those teams, mostly. The MLS would have been competitive with Watford this year. Maybe. I don't think all of the MLS teams would have been able to compete even in the Championship League in England. Sunderland is better than all of the MLS sides. I can think of about 12 different leagues that MLS is worse than, top to bottom. There are good individual players in MLS, sure, but the try and make the case Lalas is making is just silly. 12 leagues, eh? let's give it a shot: Premiership (England) Bundesliga (Germany) Serie A (Italy) Serie A (Brazil) La Liga (Spain) Ligue 1 (France) Primera Division (Argentina) Superliga (Portugal) Eredivisie (Netherlands) Primera Division (Mexico) Premier Super League (Turkey) I've got 11 that are head and shoulders above the MLS. And there's a ton of other leagues that have top teams that no MLS team could touch (SPL, Russia, Romania, Greece, CC Championship to name a few).
  17. Right hand.

  22. I wanted to post in this thread, but now that I know a girl is posting in it I've deemed it not worth my time to do so.
