  1. Honestly, he was over 100 pitches, and for a first start of the year, that was the point most managers would've pulled him. OK that makes sense I saw where they posted he had 73, which is why I didn't understand. I have the mute on the TV so I had no idea.
  2. Not going to harp on taking at Wood, just chalk that up to learning a lesson. Part of the process…they can't all be like Lou Brown.
  3. won't even mention the steal threat and taking out the lefty...
  4. Wood at 73 pitches or Rondon? struggling with the logic
  5. I can't see how they would be broke…..or at least "rich people" broke. I have to believe that if they had any worries about cash flow even short ted, they would have approached the renovations they way they have. I have no doubt that they could have easily gotten tax payers to foot the bill or a lot of it. We can think that Tom Ricketts is "dumb" or in over his head, but successful people like them don't make just make decisions randomly or on their own. They have advisors and money people who aren't dumb. I think it is more of a PR battle than a cash or knowledge battle. I think this is magnified as the team itself is not winning the ownership any fans, so they are treading lightly.
  6. 4th game of the year and I am still excited when I see they are playing an afternoon game!
  7. Castro will be fine, at least offensively. People can down play spring training all they want but there is a reason they do it. It's a lot about timing. Yes, he can get his reps in but they aren't game reps. They talk about the important part of late spring training is getting timing down on major league off speed pitches. You don't see it early because pitchers are working on other things. Castro did not really see any big league stuff until game 1. Today was better, give him a week and then hopefully he'll be in gear. I can't think of many players who miss the end of spring training our even the first couple weeks of the season and come out stroking. Heck most guys take until the end of april to heat up even with a full spring training.
  8. I'd like to offer up this GIF to be used in any situation where someone is wondering who another player is. Please refrain from using such language or I will be forced to thrash you….
  9. agreed. I don't think you throw out a choice you made over an entire spring season because of 1 outing. It will happen at some time because I think that's plan long term anyway.
  10. Couldn't everyone? Gotta give value to get value. personally I lean toward pitching, but I can see with Cashner's health were they may undervalue him. It's kind of the nature of all bigger trades with young guys. If one becomes great, the team will talk about that deal forever! Heck, didn't we talk Colvin vs Stewart for 2 seasons, and they weren't even good. God, my parents still talked Brock for Broglio into the 90's. Probably still would if they were alive.
  11. be serious! it was only 3 or 4 feet. It's very hard not to have flashbacks to last year.
  12. Also in response to the article on Cashner being the better end of the deal. Bottom line…who cares?! Exactly how many runs, wins or titles do you get for "winning" a trade? We filled a glaring need, no matter where he ends up, he is a solid 1B. We all want him to be great, but even if he isn't that "guy", he is a solid addition to a good team. Going forward, at worst, he is probably a 3 win player because of his D. If Baez and Bryant are the bats we hope they will be, Rizzo would be a very not complement to that. Not to mention, with his defense, he will save Castro, Baez, and Olt lots of errors over the next 5 years, only adding to everyone's value. So if they declare Cashner/San Diego the winner-great. I'll take our team over the Padres over the next 5 seasons anytime.
  13. With what we have we been put through the last 2 seasons it's hard to not carry over any preconceived notions of what guys are going to do. We really do need to sit back and watch for at least a while before we jump off the deep end. They do make it tough at times with their play. I mean Veras couldn't have done a better impression of Marmol unless he tried. Then we as fans, just feel like…here we go again. Sometimes people post as an outlet for their frustration. In fairness to Veras, he may never do that again but man is it hard sometimes. On the other hand there are just as many posters who would have proclaimed that Rizzo had arrived if he had 4 hits, and 2 jacks off a lefty. Neither outcome proves anything but fans aren't always open minded when it comes to their team. I don't know about you guys, but I do have to say I can't help cringing when I see the same type of performances again, even for a game or two. I try to refrain from making quick judgements, but I admit I did in the game thread with Veras…part jokingly, part out of frustration.
  14. Exactly. As a real fan that's all you can ask for. We had a window where we were good, at times very good. Things didn't go our way but it was a lot of fun. Even in 09, and 10 we were mentioned as serious contenders to win at the start of the year. As a Cub fan there have been very few seasons that we felt like we were favorites to start a season! I'd take that every season. footnote….I really would like a WS title at some point.
  15. It's funny...the two most "proven" guys are the ones I feel the least good about. Replace Russell with Rosscup, trade Veras, add Vizcaino. Dominate. Hey, we got a good 10 pages on last night's game thread out of Veras. Everybody needs to have a role on this team
  16. yeah, I guess it couldn't hurt…. I think we better sit Bonifacio on Friday. He really seems to be wearing down, I mean only 2 hits today!
  17. It's been 165 games um, they all sucked last year. So we could be writing off the entire starting lineup in the first month with that thinking.
  18. Bosio is magic. sounds a little Sox fans who think Cooper can make shinola from SH*T… but i still agree
  19. needs more eye black and a mullet so he looks more gritty like Stewart...
  20. I actually have almost as much anxiety about the rain as I did with our closer last night.
  21. I hate it when my mom doesn't put my uniform in the dryer!
  22. I knew he was going to be more selective and really work on his OB%!
  23. Well he has a career OB% of .323, which on this team is downright awesome. Unless we want to lead off Rizzo or Schierholtz, his normal output is still an upgrade. As for war…we had 2 regulars above 2.0 last year, so his average war fits in perfectly!
