  1. 2006 numbers: Perez: .256 avg Izturis: .252 avg Perez: .625 OPS Izturis: .655 OPS Career numbers: Perez: .270, .678 Izturis: .260, .634 It looks to me like Neifi is actually BETTER than Izturis. Which is the saddest thing I've ever written. Relax. Neifi played a lot of games in Denver, Izturis in Dodger Stadium. That explains the statistical discrepancy. It doesn't explain, however, how Hendry thinks a lineup with both Cedeno and Izturis can possibly win anything. Forget Moneyball, all businesses have deveoped processes to become more efficient. Using new knowledge to better their product and performance. But God bless 'em, not our Cubs!
  2. Done for 19 year-old Minor League pitcher per ESPN.
  3. Uh, who are players A and B?
  4. He also said something about Betemit to NY yesterday, but acted as if they could get him for nothing. I would be upset if the Yanks get Abreu for fringe prospects. The Cubs should be all over that type of deal. Speed, Power, Defense and a great OBP.......... I can't think of a player who better suits the Cubs needs. His big contract and option pick up should only be a speed bump to Hendry going after him. Abreu shows all the signs of a rapidly declining player. When all you do is walk, and you've stopped hitting HRs, pitchers stop walking you and then you have no value and a $15 million contract. See Willlie Mays '71-'72, Gary Matthews '84-'85, and Toby Harrah '86-'87(or '85-'86).
  5. That plan didn't seem to work for Rich Hill.
  6. That may be true, but when you're 33 and the base on balls is your sole offensive weapon, your shelf life is gettting short.
  7. Hendry is a fool. To get draft picks he'd have to offer arbitration. And Pierre would probably accept. I am on record as saying that Pierre will get an extension shortly after July 31. I don't think Hendry has any idea what his next move will be. He's a random idea generator.
  8. Does anybody here have any faith that Hendry can make any kind of pay/performance calculation? If Hendry decides to keep Pierre he will pay what he needs to. Hendry will sign Pierre to 2/15 contract, maybe with a third-year buyout to make it essentially 2/18, and Hendry will tell you it's a bargain based on what the Yankees paid Damon last year. As a matter of fact, it's a guarantee that Damon's name comes up at the press conference announcing the extension. By the way, Abreu is the next Johnny Callison. Let's stay away from this one.
  9. Now no one doubts this anymore, right? Hendry probably thinks all he has to do is sign Carlos Lee and everything will be fine.
  10. Actually at the time he was not considered an injury liability. But we didn't want to block Choi for $14 million a year. I can't really argue with the logic despite how it worked out. And of course we all love DLee.
  11. This should be a prerequisite for whoever replaces Baker.
  12. Unfortunately the upcoming Pierre extension is part of that.
  13. Friday, August 4th, before the Cubs-Pitrates game.
  14. Why rush to judgment? Wait until late October and we can be sure.
  15. I think Williamson will go to the White Sox. Then I will root for him like crazy.
  16. They must extend him. Any discussion otherwise makes this whole site irrelevant.
  17. Your on. How long have you been a Cub fan? You are probably not a corporate employee either.
  18. He's not consciously making these decisions, he really is that bad of a manager. Hendry has given him way too much ammunition. As bad as Baker is, look at the garbage team Hendry has given him. Pierre, Perez, Rusch, Bynum, Jones; forget the emergency guys-these are players Hendry pursued. Regardless, Dusty is trying to make milk with his lemons and then blaming the milk for being sour. The Cubs are one of the worst teams in the majors. Given the payroll, their performance is historically bad. There is plenty of blame to go around.

  20. Pie is not hitting at Iowa, and lord knows we have a bunch of holes. How far are we from an extension as Hendry tries to justify trading the three pitchers?
  21. I was thinking more along the lines of team construction. I'd like to see Pie in CF next year, and if EPatt comes along with him, then you've got Pie and EPatt with unsure production, plus Cedeno who probably will hit like a 7/8 hitter. We also don't have any very good corner OFs, which sets up an awful offense for '07. And that's a problem?
  22. Count me as one of those on record as saying we should have paid Beltran the $$. Look at all the money we spend on garbage. Beltran's bucks could have prevented a whole lot of mischief if Hendry was truly on a budget. Firing Hendry is more important than firing Baker (though firing Baker is important too).
  23. If you would have heard MacPhail on the radio a couple of weeks back you'd want him gone too. He's as clueless as Hendry.
  24. What's the difference? This crew isn't going to do anything anyway. Play Restovich; who cares? Just get rid of that commitment.
  25. I don't have a problem with the Tribune per se owning the Cubs. But Macphail, Hendry and Baker have to go. How else do we accomplish that?
