  1. horsefeathers, I know that it is pointless to think about this but I can't help but wonder what would have happened if we had thrown gobs of money at Jansen last winter. Reportedly he was ready to sign with the Nats until Turner and some of his Dodgers teammates called him and convinced him to go back to L.A.. If we had just gone above and beyond and signed him instead, not only would we have been considerably stronger but the Dodgers would have been a lot weaker and we might have made it back to the WS and also had our closer situation figured out for another handful of years. I just think that when a talent like that is on the open market we should be all over it and we messed that one up.
  2. 11.81 K/9, 5.06 BB/9, 7.59/2.65/3.36. Lights out? Wasn't being serious but obviously they're gambling on the whiffs translating
  3. Astros took Gose in the R5 draft. He was lights out in his 10 innings pitched.
  4. They've already banked 20 losses. Just stay in the bottom 3.
  5. Screw Kintzler, get Cahill
  6. This is bloody brilliant and would probably appease the players, as well as they can be appeased
  7. Speaking of the Yankees, they're likely to dump Robertson and I think we should be interested. He's been the 4th most valuable reliever since 2011 according to fg. Great 1 year rental.
  8. If we go MIF package for Archer + Colome, I really want to kick the tires on Cozart. From there I want one of Reed, Shaw, McGee, and then let the market settle down and grab your ancillary additions to fill out the roster.
  9. Hope Lauri gets on a roll now
  10. One thing I've seen is Rosenthal saying the Angels landed him because Eppler started scouting him back in HS, and before he signed the teams reportedly in the lead (Ms and Pads) were in such a position because they had been scouting and building the relationship since HS also. From the little we have heard from Otani's camp, this came down to the bond he felt, which would corroborate with what Ken said. I have to believe Thoyer had been doing the same, but I haven't heard it, FWIW. That would surprise me. There's no way we were behind in scouting and courting this dude from the beginning, right?
  11. Doesn't he know that all of So Cal is burning to ashes right now
  12. They better not drive up this small market talk and then have him sign with the Dodgers
  13. Cubs removed Carasiti from the 40 so he could sign in Japan
  14. OTOH that's 6 straight games of Lauri shooting no better than 41% on 14 FGA/G Hope he finds his stroke again
  15. We have really played our best games against some of the best teams in the league. Beat the Panthers (7-3) & Steelers (8-2) Dropped the GW TD against the Falcons (6-4), blew the Vikings (9-2) game in the final few minutes, and had every chance to steal one against the Saints (8-2) It would be great to keep the Eagles in check, at least.
  16. Lots of rumblings that Barth was brought in specifically for Fox and that's the guy he wanted The Bears believe Floyd avoided an ACL tear
  17. They seem to be ready to sell incredibly low on Longo
  18. Yeah, he definitely feels pressure that isn't there at times. Only was sacked once (only time they were really close) and it was his fault for that weird early scramble right into the line. Obviously, he had some sacks that were his fault last week. He had the unnecessary back foot throw incomplete to Wheaton on 3rd and 9. He didn't set for a couple other throws. But I think that will come in time. Actually, having WRs he has some confidence in will really help. I think he feels OK about the OL, but my guess is he feels like he has a small window to get the ball to his receivers before the defense recovers, causing some rushed passes. I think a reason for that is him learning how to take the snap under center and drop back and plant his feet before throwing. He’s used to shotgun 95% of the time and that’s a whole different rhythm to throwing. Once he gets more comfortable dropping back I think his accuracy goes up. You heard the announcers today point out several times which foot he was planting before throwing. That said I haven’t seen many perfectly placed throws (Though I might be remembering poorly) You’d hope to see more flashes of that. Beyond the mechanics of the dropback, I think he isn't processing D's fast enough to set his feet and make accurate throws. Agree with all of this. The game is just a little fast for him right now but it's encouraging that the things he needs to work on are pretty minor all things considered and are largely a product of experience. Like at least you can see all the makings are there to be a high quality QB. Just a lot of throws today that he wishes he could have back.
  19. Mitch has some things to clean up with his base and footwork and we will see a big drop in those air balls. I really believe in the arm.
