  1. http://www.sportsline.com/mcc/blogs/entry/6270335/12196843 Sounds like Towers is calling Hendry out. Seriously, I refuse to belive that this deal would be blocked over a matter of 5 million dollars. Towers changes his story depending on who he is talking to... First it was... Hendry has to clear it with ownership Now it is ......Hendry doesn't need to clear it with ownership. did it occur to you that at first towers didn't know hendry had clearance...but as talks progressed he was told by hendry that he has the go ahead?
  2. the public matters not to anyone involved sure it does.
  3. this is why i've been saying that i'm worried about hendry and lou's obsession with adding a pricy lh bat like ibanez/abreu. to add one of those guys and peavy, he pretty much has to trade marquis. i think he's worried about the possibility of trading for peavy, getting stuck with marquis, and then not having enough money to get that bat. I know that's what he's worried about and I think it's stupid. If he could get rid of Sammy Sosa and Todd Hundley, he can get rid of Jason Marquis. If you want to get rid of someone enough, you can do it. Hendry has proven it himself. if somebody like raul ibanez ends up costing the cubs peavy this would be the most disastrous offseason ever Agreed. If Lou really is willing to throw away one of the best pitchers in the game over an aging outfielder who will probably be broken down by the last year of his contract, he deserves to have his MOY award revoked. You mean Hendry and his EOY award? Lou is the one demanding the LH bat, and its not like any of the avilable are steller. I know Hendry is the one who makes the decision, but Im sure Lou has some say in the matter. I think you're taking what Lou says way too seriously. I don't think so. Everytime Lou is asked about Peavy or anybody else, he imediately says they don't need it and that their real need is a LH bat.

Or he's just not panicking, like some people would. i'm not saying that's for sure what is going on... just that that's what i'm worried about.
  7. and 4/46 or something like that for cordero

  9. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/print?id=3758577&type=blogEntry Padres are ready to move on this, Philles are ready to move on this, yet where not close. Only holdup is the Cubs at this point. Is it because Marquis isn't in this deal and has to be dealt first? well it looks like derosa is certainly involed. if the phils were only getting marquis back and had agreed upon it like Amaro says, then there obviously wouldn't the holdup of trying to move marquis. if we give up derosa we better not be giving up marshall too
  10. it would be kind of comical if marquis' awful ocntract ended up costing us jake peavy 2 years later
  11. Which part of the day are you referring to? Just now, I could have sworn is saw something along these lines go across ESPN's bottomline: "Jayson Stark reports that the Cubs have refuted comments by the Chicago Sun Times that the team is "very close" to acquiring Jake Peavy and is focusing on obtaining a left handed bat and the sale of the team" That's been there all day. Didn't it say the opposite earlier today, that the Cubs were indeed "very close" to getting him? there have been 2 different sides all day. most places are saying a deal is still close. stark's story has been up all day...the one where he says the cubs aren't close. at this point im just paying attention to towers
  12. And Meph is still disliked here And you are? I love it when people with less than 20 posts insult other posters. was something he said incorrect?
  13. I could see towers and hendry tripping on shrooms while going to see cirque du soleil to discuss this deal. "The tall chair is gawking at me and the short one is behaving very droll!" "I'm up high. I'm really high up!"
  14. i don't think that psd guy knew what he was talking aobut. they just mentioned all the guests they have coming up and towers wasn't one of them. now they're talking about football.
  15. Yikes. You'd think the manager with the "power pitching" fetish would be happy to see Marshall go in exchange for Peavy. it kind of pisses me off that lou tries to act like the gm so much. "i want this"... "no wait... i want this".... "wait, i want that other thing again". just let jim do his job
  16. ugh...it seems like this is falling apart quickly
  17. what did he say? Nothing of substance. still.... cliffs?
  18. if you have everybody on ignore, what is the point of even coming here?
  19. update: people still don't like you more later
  20. Committing, say, $30 million of the 2011 payroll doesn't cause you to blink the slightest eye? not when it's for an elite pitcher. seriously, that is cheap.
  21. For 2009 only? Or should we have any thought at all to how that might effect 2010, 2011, 2012? you said it yourself. if we get peavy that pretty much guarantees our rotation is at least solid for the next several years.
  22. in recent years yes but I don't think it is this year especially when you can get a better closer in Wood for less yes, if by "better" you mean "not better" KRod is good but waaay overrated i'd agree that he is somewhat overrated, but he still is a much better option than wood right now. wood is still a hhuuuugggggggggeeeeee injury risk.
  23. Do you really think that's what's going on? That a deal for Jake Peavy wouldn't get done because the Cubs were obsessing over adding an OF (which they need)? Is Jim Hendry incapable of multitasking? I'm not trying to be an ass, but I just think it's funny when people think things like this. Think about it. Hendry has said over and over and over that a LH bat for RF is their number 1 priority. Lou has repeatedly said the same as well. Multiple reports have stated that they want to take care of that before they add Peavy. There could be some truth to that. Also, they pretty much have to dump Marquis if they want to add both a RF and Peavy. What if Jim feels like he might not be able to dump Marquis and doesn't want to get Peavy, then be stuck with Marquis and not be able to afford one of the guys he's obsessed with? I'm not saying that would happen, but if Jim feels it could, then I could see the reports of him wanting to add a RF first being true. During that time, C.C./Lowe/Burnett could sign. Then we have teams who missed out suddenly re-thinking Peavy, and perhaps Jake finds another team that he is interested in going to. I mean, that report about Jake singing "go cubs go" also said that Jake told the guy if he didn't end up with the Cubs, he'd end up with the Yankees.... meaning he'd accept a trade there. We don't think Cashman would trade his young players, but if he misses out on CC and Burnett a lot of things could change. They are desperate for SP. The bottom line is that the longer this drags out (especially if other SP start signing soon), the better chance there is of a another team emerging and peaking Towers interest and Peavy's as well. We have a chance to get him right now.
