  1. It's at the point where I can't be excited about this team until they get a real goalie. No chance in hell that they win a cup without getting one.
  2. I didnt think this deserved its own thread, so I figured Id hijack this one for a moment. While I dont knowmuch about Thames defense, he is the offensive equivelent of Cameron, so why not get him for cheaper instead? If we must get as player we dont really want, may as well be the cheapest one. thames is not the offensive equivalent to cameron at all also, thames doesn't play center (meaning we wouldn't get the advantage of moving kosuke back to right) and is a really bad defender in the outfield positions he does play so to summarize.... mike cameron is good, thames sucks, and they are nothing alike at all.
  3. holliday from 06-08: .329/.400/.579 holliday in 09: .313/.394/.515 that's a pretty big discrepancy. he was always good and i dont think anybody ever argued that. he just wasn't quite as good as his numbers suggestes while he played in colorado. and using greene is kind of pointless when you consider he just flat out turned to crap the last 2 seasons. when he was in san diego. he had a 102 OPS+ from 02-06. if he had played in a normal park when he was actually good, his numbers would have looked really nice. those are 2 players who played in very extreme ballparks though. i don't really see the point of using them with hermida. land shark stadium is kind of right in the middle in terms of park factors. actually, it has land shark as being a hitter's park in 2 of the last 3 seasons... including 4th overall last season.
  4. i almost forgot that gomez was like the centerpiece in the santana trade. ouch
  5. i think i'd rather take a shot at pie. at least he has a chance of learning how to hit. it seems like even if gomez does reach his offensive ceiling, it's only going to be juan pierre.
  6. i love gomez's career OPS+ of 73 and OBP of .292 also, for a guy as fast as him, he doesn't steal bases at a very good rate
  7. Anyone who makes a big deal about anyone getting caught with weed deserves scorn, regardless of the race of the person that got caught. If you are making a big deal about the weed alone, I agree, but if getting caught puts that person's availability in peril somehow whether it be by league suspension or jail, or especially if the weed was being used before or during driving, then there's absolutely nothing wrong with laying on the criticism. my point was that the initial poster's attitude was "oh, that wacky Lincecum and his pot", where there are plenty of other players who would not be let off so easily in the same situation cowherd said something similar to that. when lincecum gets caught, it's kind of funny, but when an nba player gets caught, the nba has a weed problem. might have something to do with the fact that nba players get caught with weed all the time and the majority of nba players actually smoke it.
  8. or those are 2 different groups of posters or nobody said he'd be an idiot for getting hermida at all Plenty of people have been saying that Hermida is not that good. He's a decent insurance policy but he shouldn't be counted on as a savior. and just as many people (probably more) have wanted hermida on this board for a while. the point is that people aren't just praising this move because theo epstein did it. I'm not sure I totally agree with you on this comment. There have been dozens of pages criticizing Hendry on every move he makes (or doesn't make) and praising the genius of Epstein and Beane. and you don't think that's because those people tend to like the decisions epstein makes and dislike the ones hendry makes? people compliment epstein on making good moves a lot because he makes good moves a lot. people critcize hendry for making poor moves a lot because he makes poor moves a lot.

  10. Just really need to get healthy. Sucks that we have to hit a tough spot in the schedule right now.

  12. I'm looking at the schedule for thism month and this team could be in trouble. Remember when we had a 6 point lead in the Wings like a week ago? That was nice.
  13. pleeeeeease come to florida. naples isn't that far from sarasota
  14. wow. i'm so glad they used him for those meaningless starts at the end of the season
  15. The Braves are planning on competing this year. They aren't going to trade a guy who was a top 3 pitcher in the NL last season for the stuff you're talking about. It's not even worth discussing.
  16. Vazquez was lke a top 3 pitcher in the NL last season. I don't see why the Braves would want to trade him, especially for that.
  17. While this list is full of undesirebles, the one name that stands out that would be a perfect match is Lowe. The Braves have been looking for a righty bat for the outfield, and Bradley could match that need. Meanwhile, ground ball master Lowe would be great at Wrigley, and we could then be free to shop for Bradleys replacement, using Marshall, Gorzo, or Shark as bait. Lowe's groundball rate has plummeted over the last few years, and his overall numbers took a nose dive last year too, as soon as he left Dodgers staidum. Last year he had a 1.52 WHIP, he's 36 years old, and he has a big contract. No thanks. I like how people just assume that pitchers will be good in Wrigley if they get ground balls.
  18. Am I the only one who still can't believe that we lucked into getting Derrick Rose?
  19. Mitch Williams on the CC vs Lee matchup- "When you have two aces going against each other, one has to win and one has to lose. Unless they both get no-decisions." Thanks Mitch
  20. Actually he'd still be better than [retty much every analyst on the network. Their on air personalities are unbelievably atrocious. It makes BBTN seem like fangraphs. Yes but unlike Phillips, every analyst on that station(ok...other than Mitch Williams) actually knows what he is talking about. That's like the opposite of what I just said. The analysts on MLBN are atrocious. I don't know how you can say that. I turned it on for 5 minutes the other day and I heard Harold Reynolds use the phrase "clogging the bases" THREE times in that span. Then they cut over to Al Leiter next to a big screen with the Twins lineup to break down how the Yankees would attack it. His plan? To retire the first 2 guys in the lineup. He talked for about 3 minutes about how they should focus on getting the top 2 guys out before Mauer/Cuddyer/Kubel come up. Thanks Al. I wasn't sure if it was a good idea to try and retire the top 2 guys in the lineup. Great strategy. Pretty much every one of the analysts on that network relies on batting average, RBIs, and win totals for starting pitchers. It's bruuttttalllll. Maybe you should try watching more than 5 minutes of the MLB network then. Guys like Larkin are breaking down AB"s pitch by pitch, scene by scene, pitch selection by pitch selection and explaining exactly how Lee managed to neutralize hot A-Rod tonight with pitches low and in and low and away. Talked of how lefty Lee's good method of hiding the ball well to the right handed hitters worked to his advantage tonite. Talking all about Lee's off balance stuff and how he is adjusting to the Yankee hitters, instead of the Yankee hitters adjusting to the pitching like what happened in the Angles series. While they are saying this Showalter and Valentine over on Baseball Tonite can do no better than look at the highlights and throw cliche's out there like"Cliff Lee was dominant tonight" and "Yup he had everything working for him tonight" with basically no true analysis whatsoever. How about the pitch by pitch breakdown that got Sabathia in trouble with Utley? Again....you see the video and the watch the atbats to Utley unfold. At bat video shows what leads up to a 3-2 count to Utley with consecutive fastballs inside, ultimately leading Utley to sit dead red on a fastball middle- in(that he'd seen over and over in the atbat) and drive the ball into the seats for his 2nd homer. Reynolds, as annoying as he is actually broke this down well. Saying "Of course Utley knew what was coming, because Sabathia has been pitching Howard and Ibanez the same way all night. He's made no adjustments to these Philedelphia left handed hitters" and then showed the same pitch sequence/selection in the atbat tfrom the previous inning where Howard doubled to back up what he was saying. Over on Baseball Tonite.....they showed Utley's HR. "Wow that went a long way"says Singleton----with no analysis of the bad pitch selection, non adjustments made by CC and the Yankees or the events that led to the home run at all. Some of these guys at MLB may be annoying and obnoxious, but they are heads above any of the analysts over at Baseball Tonite. And less east coast bias too. I've watched much more than 5 minutes. When the network first started I gave it plenty of time. I still watch it sometimes for highlight and stuff also, so I'm aware of what's going on. I expected more than "they might be a little better than BBTN because they break down things more" when the network started. Not to mention I still don't believe that's true. At least BBTN will throw on guys like Kurkjian or Gammons every once in a while. Guys that at least understand how to properly look at stats. Meanwhile the clowns at MLBN keep babbling on and on about batting average and garbage like that. I turned it on a few days ago and they were talking about the decline of Garrett Atkins. The 3 stats they broke down to show his decline? Batting average, home runs, and RBIs (not to mention they didn't even show the AB totals). I'm not interested in Harold Reynolds talking about clogging the bases, or Dan Plesac talking about how Andy Pettitte is a big game pitcher, or Greg Amsinger saying that Ted Lilly shouldn't have been in the all-star games because "he only has a 9-6 record". I don't want to hear Harold Reynolds saying the Cubs would miss Ronny Cedeno more than DeRosa, or Al Leitier saying the Yankees' pitching plan should be to retire the top 2 guys in the lineup before the power. So yeah, I've given the network plenty of time, and I still watch it for highlights and stuff. The only guys on that network that are tolerable are Vasgersian and maybe Barry Larkin. The best way that I can describe it is that MLBN reminds me a lot of cubs.com
  21. I don't think I'd approve it.
  22. Sarge should probably stop whining and thank god that some idiot GM gave him about 5 times what he was worth. He keeps whining about wanting to play, but if he was given the option to void his contract and become a free agent (and get a chance to potentially start somewhere for way less), would he do it? I highly doubt it.
  23. Like someone else mentioned, I don't think Scioscia would want Bradley.
