    I like winning. I hate Dempster. I hate the contract he signed after 08. He’s really nothing more than a slightly above average pitcher whose career year in 08 outwitted Lou the Great (not a hard thing to do) into not using his best pitcher over the course of September AT ALL during the playoffs. To a left-handed batter, Dempster is nothing but a drum. His five year numbers going from 09 back thru 05: BAA- .281/.243/.259/.310/.278 WHIP – 1.55/1.29/1.53/1.97/1.97 For his career (over 1600 IP, not a small sample size) his BAA/WHIP against lefties is .281/1.73. I’m sure Dempster apologists will say he was just coming back from the injury in 05 and 06, but he’s not nor ever will be an elite pitcher. When he struggles with his command against lefties, he’s no more than mediocre. Given his track record, his career year in 08 is understandable since it’s about the only time he’s ever been half competent against them. From the 4-12 post game thread sounds like a fun thread

    i loved lou's quote about how this was just so hendry could have to time to do something, basically demanding he gets a reliever. lou is like a spoiled little kid. "i want a left handed power bat... i want a speedy leadoff hitter.... i want a reliever.... NOW. get it for me NOW!" how about you stop screwing up the stuff you do have before asking for more

    for the people who actually got to watch the game- - how did campbell look? - how did the hawks play in general? i see that the shots were about even. did niemi stand on his head? did we outplay them? by how much? need details plz

    my dad has been bitching about that for years and i don't blame him. worst part about baskettall, hands down I don't see how you fix it aside from doing something like adding a bonus foul shot to any team fouled with the lead in the last 60 seconds. i'm referring more to the constant timeouts at the end of games.

    Every manager is going to have "blemishes." It's not like Lou has some amazing history that blows them or all other candidates out of the water. I just want a manager that isn't going to over-manage and lose games, because that's what a manager has far more impact over than teams actually winning. Very fair opinion. In my Cubbie Dreams, the Ricketts setup a sound and definate philosophy of how to win, then hire great baseball people to put the philosophy to work at every level of the franchise. Over time the Cubs have mostly homegrown talent who already play the game within the franchise's philosophy. With this accomplished the manager could be far less manipulating. And I realize the vast majority on this board probably agree with this. But our current situation is far from that dream scenario and I do think Lou's "crazy" decisions are warranted.     we WERE better than the preds. right now, i'm not so sure. nothing we're seeing from the hawks so far is really anything different than we saw for most of the second half of the regular season

    I'm putting this on Bowman. Because you are blaming him for not getting someone to play in net! Which means you are blaming Niemi! Otherwise, what the sam [expletive] are you talking about???? he obviously isn't watching the game I am watching the game. Niemi is average and a great goalie picks up the defense when they fail. I am not going to blame Niemi for being what he is - an average goalie at best. just not sure why you're talking about niemi when he has literally been the least of our concerns in these 3 games. he has been like the only guy to actually show up. if not for him, we may not even have a win.
