Butler wasn't exactly great himself. also he was over 90 pitches so it shouldn't be a huge controversy Those are good points and he did look like his usual ugly somehow effective self... he hasn't been usually effective, he sucks

it not great in the immediate future, but if there's a chance of extending the window another 3-4 years, it helps there. it definitely makes panarin more realistic in a couple years.

is he "can't" play because of this, he'll just go on the ltir for the rest of the contract, and there will be no recapture penalties (if he just retired, there would be a 4.275 cap hit for each of the 4 remaining years of his contract). it's been speculated for years that some injury would force him into retirement near the end of his contract. and 17-18 also happens to be the year his actual salary drops down to 1 million.

the cubs are kind of an ass factory but i see no reason to expect this

he hasn't been terrible or anything but he still walked reyes (worst ops in the league) to load the bases and then couldn't go for the needed k on the pitcher because he fell behind 3-0 again He has a 4/1 K/BB and has given up like 1.5 hard hit balls through 5 innings. He deserves to have given up 0 runs. true but god forbid he's able to overcome a little adversity with no cespedes or conforto in the lineup. walks have been his biggest problem with the cubs and it really hurt him against 2 non-hitters
