  1. I'm torn on getting Dunn. Dunn is a borderline FRANCHISE player, and Hendry would have to do his homework on the kid. If Dunn ever learned to go the opposite field, his average would go up. If Dunn ever decides that a .280/.430/.600/.980(which I can see him doing with the proper motivation) is more impressive then a .240/.380/.550/.935 then yeah he be worth the prospects and the money it is going to take to acquire him. But the problem I see with Dunn, is that he is content on being merely good, instead of being GREAT. And that separates Dunn from the TRUELY greats of the game like ARod, Vlad, and Pujols.
  2. Found this little tidbit over at redlegnation.com, so I don't know how much validity it has, but should be intersting chat. If this is true, this may actually be a smart thing for O'Brien to do. Play off the fear that one of these teams may get him, thus increase a bidding war. But as a Cubs fan, I would be learly of entering a bidding war for Dunn. I like Dunn, and I do feel the Cubs have more "bullets" to trade for Dunn then Astros, and the Cards. I would hate for Dunn to end up behind Rolen and Pujols in St. Louis, or Berkman and Ensberg in Houston, when he could look just as good behind Aram and Lee. Nonetheless, should be an interesting couple of weeks of speculation.
  3. I take that "Rodriguez" fellow, with the Yankees eating most of the contract.
  4. Infact, we do. Earlier this season he came on air and reported "Hendry is finalizing a major trade. It will be completed in two days." If you fell for that line, that you deserve to be made a fool out of. NOTHING is finalize until a deal is announce. Just because some reporter said "a trade will completed in two days" doesn't mean it will happen, and that it is still speculation.
  5. Dunn won't be traded this yr. In the offseason is where I would look for him to be traded, but not right now. And I am split on trading for Dunn. His power and patience is awe-inspiring, but his CRAPPY defense (makes Alou look like a GG winner), and his very limited offense arsenal (homerun, strikeout, or walk) would thin very quickly. So, I guess it would depend on who the Cubs would have to give up.
  6. I think he's a Canadian. Isn't he from Curacao? I think you have Edmonds (California) confused with Larry Walker (Candian). ARod situation, very much like Brett Hull in hockey. Brett was born in Canada (I beileve his mom was American), he chose to be an American citizen, I believe because of his "distrust" of his father. So if Alex Rodriuez has DOMINICAN REPUBLICANS parents, he doesn't have to live in the DR to take up DR as his citizenship. So if he wants to play for the DR, that is his decision. This is BA.com PROJECTED team USA roster, MO are in bold: C—Jason Varitek (Red Sox) 1B—Derrek Lee 2B—Brian Roberts (Team USA needs a LO hitter) 3B—Scott Rolen (Cardinals) SS—Derek Jeter LF—Lance Berkman (Astros) CF—Jim Edmonds (Cardinals) RF—Gary Sheffield (Yankees) DH— Mark Teixeria (I want someone to actually wans to be there) SP—Roger Clemens (Astros) SP—Mark Prior (Cubs) SP—Ben Sheets (Brewers) SP—Mark Buehrle (Buehrle is better the Mulder) RP—Billy Wagner (Phillies) (or if Smoltz is willing to close) Manager: Bobby Cox (Braves) No way do I want Cox leading Team USA, cause we ALL KNOW he can't win the big games. So I choose Joe Torre or Mike Sciossoa (sp?)
  7. I actually made this comparasion, but the Cubs already have a Paul O'neill type player on the Cubs...his name is Matt Murton. Finally, why do people still think the Cubs are going to make a trade? There isn't anybody available who would be an upgrade (significantly) over Murton/Hollandsworth. And Nomar is expected back in August (bye-bye Macias?) So again, where would the Cubs try to upgrade at? Manager..... If Hendry makes a trade, it will be for a middle reliever, like McDougal.
  8. They're not happy with Contreras and El Duque. The consensus seems to be that the Sox feel they have enough offense to win. That's funny, it seems to me, they NEED a bat (ahem at 3rd, and maybe even SS) moreso then they need another arm. Besides I don't believe the current White Sox has what "IT" takes to go deep in the playoffs. For some reason, they don't have "IT". The Red Sox had Curt Schilling. The Marlins had Miguel Cabrera. The Angels had David Eckstein (believe it or not). So again who is the "IT" factor for the White Sox, cause I don't see it.
  9. I am of the school of thought that your don't trade YOUNG, and QAULITY pitching for hitting. Would Houston trade Roy Oswalt to the Yanks for Alex Rodriguez (if money doesn't play a part)? Would the White Sox trade Mark Buehrle for Migeul Cabrera? The answer is NO. Quality pitching is so hard to find, and quality YOUNG pitching is even harder to find, and when you do find it, you keep it. If Abreu was between 25-29, then yeah, I would trade Z for him, but at 31 yrs old, then no, I wouldn't unless the Cubs got Cole Hamels or Gavin Floyd back in the deal. Now if Philly wants to do a KW for Abreu, then I am on board.
  10. Does anybody when did the Cubs sign Donald Veal? Ba.com has him listed as signed.
  11. You may not refer to it as scouting(or evaluating), but that is how it has come off as. I am not an adovcate of keeping Hill, but to trade him for another UNDERACHIEVING OFer like Kearns, isn't the way to go. If you can get a Jose Guillen type OFer with a package starting of Hill, you do it, but not Kearns. I would gladly trade Murton/Hill/Patterson for Miguel Cabrera.
  12. I am a fan of Harvey, not because of his "power", but because he isn't strictly a "power" guy. Alot of scouts raves about his athelthicism, and while his "strike zone judgement" needs to be improved, I can't see why Harvey can't be a Adam Dunn type hitter, with a better average. And I am talking about a FEARED MIDDLE OF THE ORDER type hitter for Harvey. Harvey, IMO, has a better chance at succeeding then Dopirak, and I am a fan of Dopirak. I don't QUITE share your optimism about Matt Murton. Don't get me wrong, I love the "energy" he brings to the club, the "unique" skill set--take pitches, make pitchers frustrated---but I don't see Murton as a 30 homerun guy, unless we are talking career yr. I actually see alot of Paul O'neill in Matt Murton. Quiet, unassuming, ballplayer in every sense of the word. Surprising athelethic, has the grit, that passion for the game. And while, I don't see Murton hitting 30 homeruns---outside of career yr---I could see a yearly #'s of .320/.380/.500 with 20hrs/90rbi, and be considered the "best" pure hitter on the team.
  13. I wouldn't. Not because I am a BIG fan of Pie. Not because Dunn wouldn't be worth it. But simply because WHO would play CF or even RF if the Cubs traded Pie? I don't want Patterson back (I think one way or another he is gone, anyways). Murton and Dunn are BOTH LF, and as defenders very BLAH at it. And if the Cubs put either one in RF, the OF defense would be horrible. Harvey is still a couple of yrs away. Greenberg is viewed as a 4th OF Dave Roberts type player. And with the FA crop of OF being THIN, I don't see an upgrade. The Cubs would then have to make another trade to bring in a legit CF and/or RF, and I don't know if the price will be worth it. Besides I think Cincy learn from Pittsburgh's mistake, and won't trade Dunn to the Cubs. So all of this talk is moot.
  14. Maybe I was a bit harsh, thus I apologize. BUT, I don't agree that Kearns is worth a lefty with his kind of stuff. That doesn't MEAN I wouldn't trade Hill, just that I wouldn't trade him for Kearns. Edwin Encarnacion? Yes. Adam Dunn? Yes. Austin Kearns? No. And I do believe that Hill can add veloicty, if his mechanics are TWEAKED a little bit. But unless he adds a solid changeup, I could definately see Rich Hill as the Cubs version of BJ Ryan. This is a fair assessment and I agree with it: And we may want to refrain from trashing someones's ability to scout before all the facts are there. I've laid out some pretty good ones. Unless your affilated with the team as a scout, any "fans" scouting has to be questioned, as it tends to have a bit of homerism as part of his "scouting." Rather it is on purpose, or not, everybody tends to believe certain players are better or worse then what they really are. Scouting is ALSO loosely based, because different games have different variables, with different outcomes. Just because one game you saw Rich Hill thrown a 87-91 FB, doesn't mean his next game will follow suit. Scouting is just a dressed up way of "speculating." I apologize again, if I was a bit harsh. But I do stand by what I said.
  15. Well, thePenguin isn't off-base with Hill's fastball as JJ Cooper of BA.com said about Rich Hill: So I do believe that thePenguin is OFF with his "scouting" of Rich Hill, maybe because he has delusions of trying to get the megaoverrated Austin Kearns. BUT, Rich Hill, IMO, does need a third pitch if he wants to become a starter, otherwise his stuff maybe that of a lefty setup.
  16. They NEVER said you have to be "purty" to play the game of baseball, the RIGHT way.
  17. On Farnsworth: He HAD to be dealt. If for not other reason, was his ACT was getting OLD, very quickly. And the fact that Scott Moore is having an OUTSTANING season. And Novoa is still young enough that ANOTHER team may like his arm in a trade. On Patterson: I can safely say, he won't be a "Lou Brock" player after he leaves Chicago. I'm willing to bet that Corey ends up being a Jacques Jones type player.
  18. Willis I could you see your point, but Garland? http://baseballreference.com/g/garlajo01.shtml This JON GARLAND? This season is SO OUT OF WACK for Garland is not even funny. I don't miss Garland.
  19. Pagin Dr. "Snot" Dempster, you're needed in the emergency room, er...mound. Dr. Dempster you're needed in the emergency room. The Cubs WILL NOT lose this game.
  20. I think it's blatantly obvious that this was forced on him from above. God, or Jim Hendry?
  21. Hey, if they want Matt Murton, all they have to do is give up Billy Butler, that's all.
  22. Dubois on being sent down: Corey on being sent down: I believe that those two quotes shows you the difference in maturity level between Dubois and Patterson. Dubois is looking at it half-full, and WANTS to improve his game to get back to Chicago, whereas Corey Patterson is looking at it half-empty, and he prolly feels he doesn't "deserve" to be sent to AAA. I honestly believe Corey is in AAA for quite awhile, to be honest, or he won't be with the organization after the trade deadline. His attitude, right now, STINKS to high heavens.
  23. Right now, I rather have a ROOT CANAL then watch the Cubs. I rather do my taxes, Listen to Kato Kaelin speak politics, Filmed John Goodman doing a lapdance, (is that normal?) Watch Glitter till my eyes bleed, And listen to a duet of Snow/Vanilla Ice Then watching the Cubs, right now. I love them, but ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.
  24. Here's a philospohical question for everyone. Was Dusty starting Macias over Hairston ?...... or was Dusty starting Patterson over Hairston ???? Right now....is Macias and Patterson....INTERCHANGEABLE?
  25. I still go to that board, but everyday another loser like chumps97 (or JasonHart, cubsstink, or whoever the heck he is going by today) is driving me away from that board, and I am finding myself more and more on this board, lately. Sometimes over at cubs.com, but mainly here, when I am on.
