  1. I think that's more the fault of minor league coaches, not scouts. Yes, that is more player development's fault than the scouting department's. Anyways, with Wilken on board, I expect some scouting personnel will change this offseason to match with guys he's more comfortable with.
  2. Heh, ESPN was only crediting him with 19. He was a beast. Again, the NFL Network is re-airing the game at 8 pm ET tonight.
  3. Darren Oliver or Oliver Perez. Man, last year, Darren Oliver was so bad he couldn't crack the Cubs' injury ravaged pitching staff and was cut from Iowa. Now he or Oliver Perez could be starting game 7. AND Jeff Weaver has looked good this series. :-s Mediocre pitchers are going to win the NLCS, but people will still talk about great pitching shutting down great hitting. Exactly. Too many holes on the Cubs to worry about one part of the team.
  4. He's a 6-year minor league FA and Scout.com says he'll test free agency. No word on two other big named minor league free agents, Luis Montanez and Brandon Sing. Carmen Pignatiello did re-sign.
  5. Yeah, Karros had the go-ahead HR once Clemens exited. You're right, it was on in LA because Roger was going for 300 (here in LA, Fox Sports West was going to air the Dodger game).
  6. That's a poor analogy. Starting pitchers are pulled regularly in baseball, early or late, effective or not. Quarterbacks are not in the same boat.
  7. I like this part... I hate that part. Fox games of the week just means I can only watch a Yankees or Mets game. I get Giants/Dodgers/A's games every Saturday. The same plus the Angels and Padres for me. Fox's games are just a California-only thing. I did get the Cubs-Yankees in 03 (the game where Hee Seop Choi collided with Kerry Wood) and I've gotten a couple Mariner games over the years.
  8. Uneventful night for Cubs players and prospects in Venezuela. The Leones and Magallanes had the night off, the Caribes were rained out and Buck Coats didn't get into the Tigres game.
  9. North Shore wins 7-4, box: SP S. Koerber 5 IP, 1 ER, 4 H, 4 K/0 BB, HBP, 8 GO-3 FO, 62 pitches (43 strikes) Overall: 15 IP, 5 ER, 15 H, 22 K/5 BB, 3.00 ERA, 1.33 WHIP
  10. Culiacan wins again, 7-4, box: 3B C. McGehee 1/4, R, RBI (5) - overall: 6/25, .240/.297/.320/.617, 2 BB, 5 K
  11. UCLA QB Patrick Cowan has a throat injury (inflammed throat) which he sustained by getting punched while sacked by Oregon. He won't be able to verbally communicate during the game so UCLA seems to have come up with a set of complex hand signals. Fun times. If worst comes to worst, UCLA will have turn to RS freshman Osaar Rashaan.
  12. Mesa loses 7-3, box: 2B E. Patterson 2/4, R, BB (3), K (2), SB (2) 1B S. Moore 0/3, 2 BB (7), K (8), SB (3) Overall: Eric Patterson: 7/24, .292/.370/.333/.703, 3 BB, 2 K, 2/2 SB Scott Moore: 5/25, .200/.375/.400/.775, 7 BB, 8 K, 3/3 SB
  13. Licey wins their opener 7-1, box: CF F. Pie 1/4
  15. Ooo, Bulls vs. Spurs tomorrow in San Antonio.
  16. And if Hill puts up 218 K/54 BB and a 2.69 ERA.
  17. He had issues with Brad Penny this year too. Of course, Penny isn't exactly the easiest person to get along with in the clubhouse.
  18. Huh? There was some stuff in the papers about Lofton and Sosa not getting along and that there might have been some clubhouse chemistry issues down the stretch in 2003. I don't know who was at fault or what really happened, but Hendry might not be interested in Lofton because of that.
  19. If Lofton is a clubhouse problem after 03, Dave Roberts would be a good stopgap for Pie too. Of course, this only works if the Cubs add offense elsewhere, like Soriano at 2B.
  20. It'd be tougher to do that in the middle of the season, I assume.
  21. That explains how the Cubs are considering signing a few different players (besides Daisuke) in Asia. Bruce, any chance the Cubs are considering returning more permanently to Asia/the Pacific Rim a la the Leon Lee era? I hope Hendry sees how beneficial this can be and starts boosting up the scouting in that department. Good to see Jim was flexible in this situation and saw the importance of scouting for 07.
