  1. Yesterday: Leones win 6-5, box: C H. Blanco 2/4, R, HR (3), RBI, SB (2) Overall: 31/136, .228/.309/.331/.640, 1 HBP, 15 BB, 20 K, 3 HR, 5 2B, 2/3 SB Hammerin Hank starting to warm up a bit (.438/.571/.688/1.259 in last 16 ABs).
  2. The end to Indiana-UK was entertaining. UCLA-Texas Tech at the Wooden Classic up next!
  3. But what is going to make him change if he wasn't receptive towards some of the best pitching coaches in the bigs? Greg Maddux and Mark DeRosa's word are nice and all, but I'm not sure I have faith in Marquis listening and improving much. Three years? That sucks.
  4. 2007: Guzman, Marshall, Marmol - Guzman showed me enough of the great stuff in spurts last season for me to feel he'll put it together this season. Marmol really needs a bit more time, especially given how new he is to pitching. I'd love to see him get some time at AAA starting. Marshall needs to limit his HRs and improve his control (that's what made him successfull in the minors), but he's still ahead of Marmol for now in the big leagues. Long-term: Guzman, Marmol, Marshall - just based on their ceilings. Guzman would be the toughest for me to give up in a trade but none of them are untouchable. Sounds like almost what Tim said...but I definitely am with him that Guzman is going to break out in 07.
  5. I'm not sure I believe a throw-away comment about the salary from the St, Louis Post-Dispatch but I updated the thread title anyways.
  6. He's played a little bit He started playing after that quote in the USA Today.
  7. Culiacan wins 5-4, box: 3B C. McGehee 1/4, 2 K (21) Overall: 57/187, .305/.375/.444/.818, 6 HR, 8 2B, 21 BB, 21 K, 1/2 SB, 10 E
  8. Some more action from yesterday's games (PDF box scores) - Mario Mercedes got his first action in the Dominican Winter League last night: Gigantes del Cibao lose 5-1: C M. Mercedes 0/1 Estrellas Orientales lose 2-1 in 11 innings: C J. Reyes 0/3, 2 K (8) Overall (as of yesterday, 12/7): Mario Mercedes (Cibao): 0/1 Jose Reyes (Orientales): 12/54, .222/.236/.315/.551, 2 2B, 1 HR, 1 BB, 8 K, 3 PB Felix Pie (Licey): 27/125, .216/.263/.272/.535, 1 HBP, 7 BB, 25 K, 1 HR, 4 2B, 5/5 SB
  9. Don't forget #31!! Basically two first rounders. :)
  10. Uhh...JR Smith is 7/8 for threes in the first half for Denver.
  11. This doesn't apply to Campusano. It's really strange that the Blue Jays took Jason Smith when he was availble as a free agent about a month ago. why is Holdzkom different than other Rule 5 picks? teams don't usually have to roster drafted players after they are returned, do they? No, teams don't usually have to. Holdzkom and Smith were previously outrighted to the minors so they have the right to exercise an option to become a free agent if the Cubs outright them again.
  12. Bulls up 5 with less than 5 minutes left.
  13. Jonathan Mayo's (MiLB.com) Top 50 Prospects: The only Cub is Felix Pie at #38.
  14. Neckbeard can. He's got the body type for it, at least. At the rate he goes out drinking, probably. :)
  15. He claims he's completely healthy:
  16. Culiacan loses 6-5, box: 3B C. McGehee 1/3, R, HR (6), RBI (31), 2 BB (21), K (19) Gusave loses 5-4, box: PH I. Salas 0/1 Overall: Casey McGehee (Culiacan): 56/183, .306/.377/.448/.825, 6 HR, 8 2B, 21 BB, 19 K, 1/2 SB, 10 E Issmael Salas (Gusave): 19/62, .306/.358/.371/.729, 1 HR, 1 2B, 5 BB, 8 K, 1/2 SB
  17. Can someone answer this? Maybe with a medical background? Because it's a severe pull and might even be a torn hamstring. Not just the standard pulled hamstring.
  18. This Saturday? This Saturday is a day off for all teams in the Dominican. maybe it's on delay or something, I was looking on the ESPN schedule online and they are there on Saturday the 9th. Has them against Aguilas Cibaenas if that helps. 11 AM eastern. Hrm, Licey plays Aguilas Cibaenas tomorrow - you might be right about the delay.
  19. Leones win 5-3 despite Jose Macias batting third, box: C H. Blanco 0/2, R, RBI, BB (15) Overall:: 29/132, .220/.304/.303/.607, 1 HBP, 15 BB, 20 K, 2 HR, 5 2B, 1/2 SB
  20. This Saturday? This Saturday is a day off for all teams in the Dominican.
  21. Licey lost 8-4: CF F. Pie 0/4, 2 K (25) Overall: 27/125, .216/.263/.272/.535, 1 HBP, 7 BB, 25 K, 1 HR, 4 2B, 5/5 SB
  22. Teams do it all the time in the Rule 5. Seems like they didn't like anyone else in their slot and the Cubs didn't feel Hamilton could stick in the big leagues (or Lou and Wilken weren't fans) so they helped out the Reds.
  23. From AZPhil at The Cub Reporter: This doesn't apply to Campusano. It's really strange that the Blue Jays took Jason Smith when he was availble as a free agent about a month ago.
  24. They looked awful. I don't know how they beat us by 15 at their place. They are awful, and I don't know how they did that either. I just hope they lose and get a lottery pick. And fire Billy King too. The Sixers definitely need to trade Webber. He's a shell of his former self. The worst thing I saw for Philly was their interior defense. Wow, there can not be a worse interior D in the NBA. They're bad outside too. Kyle Korver tries hard, but he's just so bad on defense. It's unfortunate, because he's one of the few guys on that team who can shoot from outside. Webber is untradeable, probably... he's earning about 10% of his $20M salary and probably will do the same next year. I really hope they trade Iverson. Not because I don't like him, but because I DO like him, and I want to see him on a team that could give a run at going deep into the playoffs. The Sixers are going nowhere, with or without him. They could probably get a couple of good young players or a high draft pick for him at the trade deadline, too. Any mention of AI makes me remember this video clip:
