http://mediamatters.org/items/200702070012 Apparently Peyton Manning is black or something. (Of course I think the media is going to extremes on Rex.)
Darren Collison hurt his shoulder against USC and will be a game-time decision against West Virginia. If Darren doesn't play, freshman Russell Westbrook will start. I like Westbrook a lot but it'll be tough to win in Morgantown without Collison. :?
If the Bears go WR, I'd prefer Anthony Gonzalez or Steve Smith. But still, I want to see day one picks aimed at S, OL (even if they sign Steinbach), LB if Briggs is gone, RB if TJ is gone and maybe CB.
Not quite sure if Rufus will be there in round 2 for us. I'll be pissed if we take a TE, we didn't lose the Superbowl because of poor TE play. Yeah, I doubt it too. Before the workouts, though, we're all throwing darts. Clark was one of the more productive TE's in the league last year. Doubt we'll pick a TE. Especially considering we didn't last year. Exactly. When Clark wasn't doing anything and there were multiple late-first round TEs possible, the Bears ignored the position. Don't see them addressing it now with Clark coming off a good season.
I had never settled on one candidate. I could see pros and cons of both. Of the people they interviewed, I think I like Phillips the best. I'm just nervous with Garrett and the offense. He may do great, but it's a huge unknown. I would have loved a situation where Norv returned as an OC as I like his play-calling. I'm just not sure he can be an effective HC. My concern with Rivera was that the Cowboys have spent the last three years making the switch to the 3-4. I'm not sure we have the personell to go to the 4-3, cover-2 scheme right now. Rivera likely would have made that switch, and I'm not sure that would be a good thing right now. One thing I like about Phillips is that with his age, it will be easy to hand the job over to Garrett when (or if) he proves he's ready. I was intriqued by the idea of Singletary as HC. Rivera isn't a cover-2 guy (Lovie is) but definitely a 4-3 guy.
Exactly. CubColtPacer, the point you're ignoring in saying that most QBs don't make a jump in their 5th season is that Rex hasn't been on the field as much as any of these QBs. If you look at starts or games played, Rex is exactly where he should be and has a great chance of progressing and developing further.
Grossman's started, what, about 30 games and has played one full season. This is about when the light goes on for most young QBs and they either take off or show no improvement. Young QBs are inconsistant. Yeah, the Bears are a win-now mode but nothing out there as of now (sans Carr and McNabb) really is that much better, and those two are unlikely to be available. Jeff Garcia is 37-years old. 37!
UCLA won it 70-65. Close UCLA-USC games are worth it just for the classic Tim Floyd late-game meltdown. I haven't seen Pauley that loud ever...and it's always great to see a "JUST LIKE FOOTBALL" chant for the final minute and a half of the game. :)
Last day of the Caribbean Series: Puerto Rico beat the Dominican Republic 1-0, box. Mexico finally won, beating Venezuela 4-3, box: SS R. Cedeño 2/4, R, K (6) Overall: 11/25, .440/.481/.480/.961, 1 2B, 2 BB, 6 K, 1/2 SB, 1 E
I love David Carr. I think he's a great talent. I'd love him on the Bears, but I would never in a million years pay him that salary and trade the talent it would take to get him. Seems like a 3rd or 4th rounder might be all it takes, which isn't that steep (though JA's 3rd rounders are gold). Trade a 3rd rounder for Carr, then ship off Rex or Griese for a late draft pick to make up for it. Rex would probably be easier to ship off, with Griese's contract lasting 4 more years and Grossman's just one. Plus, we'd have to open up #8 for Carr ;) I'd take Boller over Carr for a 3rd rounder IMO. Why? When Boller first started out he was plain terrible but this year he played very well when McNair was out but was mediocre last year. He's got potential. But over Carr if the draft picks were equal? Tough decision. One thing I will give Carr is he really never had a line to protect him. Both IMO have potential. I would personally go with Boller but to be honest I'd be happy with either to compete against Grossman. I don't like Griese or Orton. Both supposedly can be had for 3rd rounders which isn't bad. Carr is leaps and bounds ahead of Boller and has done a commendable job with no line and Andre Johnson and nothing else (while Boller was awful with weapons like Heap and Jamal Lewis and a solid OL in years past). If everything else is the same, I'd much prefer Carr to Boller.
what a d-bag. That sounds awfully hollow after ND just took two recruits who had previously committed to Iowa and Louisville. Different situations. The Iowa recruit consisted pretty much of ND offering and him changing his mind due to the offer. The Louisville recruit was a coaching change, i.e. the coaching change that cost ND a bunch of recruits in 2004-05. However, ND's far from innocent of this. There's a Washington Post article today in which former QB coach Peter Vaas was pursuing Arrelious Benn pretty aggressively after he was committed to Illinois. Funny how it's almost always a different situation when ND is involved. Smith had been committed for almost 6 months and taken multiple visits. He helped recruit others to Iowa. The point is Charlie puts on a face for the cameras that he's all about committment and being honorable about them. He's upset that someone would back out of a committment to him. Yet he has no dilemna's when it comes to trying to snatch away commits from other schools, the very week before signing day. What a man of principle. People with morals get burned in college football recruiting. And thanks for reading the rest of my post in bold before jumping right to the stupid attack conclusion. Exhibit 1: Karl Dorrell :x
