  1. Craig’s link to the Athletic piece on the draft has a lot of good stuff. On focusing on high upside preps: Brennen Davis was one of the prospects who tested well: The Cubs think Herron might not need TJS after reviewing his medicals. On 11th rounder Riley Thompson:
  2. Thanks for compiling that. The only problem is AZ Phil is only seeing and reporting stats on half the games now that there are two AZL teams. That said, half the stats are enough to think most of those guys should start in Eugene except for Velazquez (already at SB) and maybe Soto/Perez (catcher logjam). Welcome to the board too!
  3. A couple of early mock top 10s are out:
  4. I'm with you on this. Sure, there are different scouts on the international side vs the draft, but it's the same player development system. The same player development group that turned raw prospects like Eloy and Gleyber and Soler into big time prospects/major leaguers (and failed on Eddy Martínez) have also succeeded on Almora and failed on Hannemann and Wilson. And while they didn't draft him, they also developed Javier Báez. The success rate across baseball is not great for high risk teenage prospects, especially the later you draft them.
  5. His arm is generally considered his best defensive asset. He threw out 29 of 70 guys last year (41%), down to 16 of 56 this year (29%) but he's been much better recently.

  7. https://www.thecubreporter.com/06092018/young-cubs-pitchers-stingy-hits-not-strikeouts-riverview#more DJ Wilson is now rehabbing in Mesa.
  8. Glad to hear but maybe don’t pitch him everytime a competent reliever gives up a baserunner up 4 in the 9th.
  9. As a 19 year old shortstop in High A, the offensive bar could not be lower. So in that sense, his ~.650 OPS is actually pretty encouraging. For example, Gleyber Torres when we traded him was a 19 year old in High A slashing 275/.359/.433 and was pretty universally considered a Top 50 prospect. I think people forget how bad a first half Torres had in 2016. I was convinced he was getting demoted to single-A until he turned it on the month before he was traded.

  12. Well, they sold their soul to...lose Game 7 of the World Series.
  13. Do it. I was really high on Schwarber in the run up to that draft.
  14. Underwood has 10 Ks through 5. He has also given up 4 ER and has 4 BB.
  15. Masahiro Tanaka left the Yankees-Mets game after apparently hurting himself running the bases. ETA: Stiffness in both hamstrings.
  16. Yep. Like Ademan last summer and Paredes two summers ago.
  17. Happ was drafted about where he was projected to go. Obviously they could have still used that data to draft him over others. Schwarber was the surprise, he was expected to go at best 1.8 but likely in the teens. Given what he did to ramp up for the World Series, I wouldn't be shocked if he scored very well on those sort off tests.
