  1. Leg injury, possibly hip, per reports from the game. He was never placed on the South Bend DL so it can't be too major. Yeah, I remember the preliminary "in-game" thing about either his hip or groin, but was hoping we would have heard something a little more concrete since then by somebody. It was 10 days ago already. Yeah, you know how rough it is to get minor league injury updates.
  2. I deleted some of my lines because I think it's unnecessary and might create confusion. I kept the last line TT asked for because it makes the most sense to include. 2018 Bonus Pool (signed picks only): $6,178,800 2018 Bonus Pool (signed picks only) Including 5% Overage: $6,487,740 2018 Bonus Pool (all top 10 rounds) Including 5% Overage: $7,892,955 2018 Bonus Pool Spending: $5,569,000 2018 Bonus Pool Remaining (all top 10 rounds) Including 5% Overage: $985,655 Under Budget So the Cubs have $985,655 beyond just their pool slots to sign Roederer, Weber and Franklin (and anyone else over $125k beyond the 10th round).
  3. Not sure I'm tracking, and apologies for asking because I'm sure this has been discussed before. But, I'll ask anyway! :) Q1: What's the difference between the bottom two lines, and why is the bottom one smaller? *Are you only including the 5% for guys actually signed in 2nd-last, but last one assumes the full 10-rounds overage will become available because they'll sign? But if the latter, then the remaining overslot would get bigger, not less.... Note: I look at this a more simplistic way based off of $7.5M pool, because I assume they'll all sign. 1. $376 overage will become available. 2. $314 under slot for those signed thus far Sum = $690 So, $690 overslot available to to finish off rounds 1-10 and apply to any 3rd-day overslots. That seems like more than plenty to handle Roederer and Franklin, unless they liked those guys a whole lot more than I realize. The second to last line is based only on signed top 10 round picks. The last line is if we assume all remaining top 10 picks signed at their slot + 5%. ETA: I think I made a miscalculation yesterday on this. The next post, updated with Roberts' info included, is accurate.
  4. Leg injury, possibly hip, per reports from the game. He was never placed on the South Bend DL so it can't be too major.
  5. I still have de la Cruz in the same group as Alzolay and Lange. You mentioned he had an pitched through a toe injury in his first few starts and his numbers have been great in his last 9 starts (50.2 IP, 3.38 ERA, 9.24 K/9, 2.13 BB/9). Even considering his rough first 4 starts, his strikeout numbers are good. I thought Bailey Clark had a chance to push towards that top tier with his great strikeout numbers but he's been hurt for nearly a month now. Clark and Abbott are my favorites outside the top tier since they both have a really strong, potentially plus second pitch. Hopefully Marquez has a strong summer in Eugene and Albertos finds his control because those two have the highest ceilings below Myrtle Beach.
  6. This sucks for the Cubs (and the Padres and Dodgers) but is definitely good for the players who were taken advantage of by that loophole. Hopefully MLB can figure things out soon because there’s bound to be talented players that were expecting to sign next month who are now in limbo.
  7. The Carlos Martinez wild pitch was also something amazing.

  10. Update: Erich Uelmen promoted to Myrtle Beach. The Cubs top five picks in 2017: 1 - Little - SB rotation 2 - Lange - MB rotation 3 - Abbott - MB rotation 4 - Thompson - Tennessee's rotation 5 - Uelmen - MB rotation Some nice results half a season in, especially when you consider this regime's previous struggles with drafting pitchers.
  11. I haven’t seen anything official from the minor league teams. Thompson’s mom tweeted the Keegan info. I would bump up Uelmen to Myrtle Beach and Robinson to Iowa.
  12. Keegan Thompson got promoted to AA. First start will be Tuesday.

  14. The Marlins are gonna drop $3 million on Sandy Gaston and he’s universally not considered the best pitcher this July 2nd.
  15. Same 3 names we’ve heard (Venezuelan RHP Richard Gallardo, Dominican CF José Lopez and Venezuelan LHP Joel Machado) plus Dominican SS Rafael Morel (Christopher’s brother). Lopez will get the highest bonus at $1.5 million even though Gallardo is considered a better prospect. Morel should get a similar bonus to his older brother ($800k). The Reds are another team looking to trade their pool space since they’re in the penalty.
  16. Yeah. The Willson stuff was weird but they definitely sounded like they admired and were jealous of the Cubs defense, as though they have to watch Chris Taylor at short and Enrique Hernandez at center every day. https://twitter.com/badatnames_/status/1009640352255340544

  18. 12:49 Vander: Is Bobby Witt Jr. the clear front runner to go 1st overall right now? If so, is there much of a gap between him and whoever would be 2nd? 12:50 Kiley McDaniel: I’ll probably write something longer about this soon, but no. The 2019 prep class looks down a lot from 2018 and sounds like 2020 is also much better. Witt has the same tools but swung and missed a lot at PG National, so I’m curious to see how he performs the rest of the summer, since he hadn’t had that issue before. I’d say SS Bryson Stott from UNLV is the favorite right now, but he’s on Team USA and they start playing in a few days, so I’d like to see that team before we start lining guys up, since there’s a lot of info coming in over the next few weeks. 12:51 Kiley McDaniel: Quick 2019 prep update 12:52 Kiley McDaniel: SS CJ Abrams (GA) and SS Bobby Witt (TX) look like the top 2 guys still, RF Riley Greene (FL) and 3B Rece Hinds (FL) are probably the next two bats. 12:53 Kiley McDaniel: On the pitcher side, RHP Brennan Malone (NC) is tops right now, RHP Matthew Allan (FL), LHP Hunter Barco (FL) and RHP Quinn Priester (IL) are the next three for me at this point.

  24. Nelson Velázquez hit his first HR of the season. José Albertos: 3.2 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, Reivaj Garcia is 2/4 with a double so far. Erling Moreno: 4.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K, 8-1 GO-FO.
