  1. Of course we only get every other game so who knows, maybe they get golden sombreros when Arizona Phil doesn’t post box scores.
  2. https://www.thecubreporter.com/10242020/cubs-rally-late-tie-giants-indian-school-park Luis Vázquez with a triple, Kevin Made (who turned 18 last month) went 2/3, Manuel Rodríguez with 1.2 scoreless and 3 Ks.
  3. The Cubs signed 10% of the top 30 IFAs last year, the second most in baseball. FYI, Arizona Phil had the Cubs signing 35.
  4. We only have approximate dollar amounts on the 50 biggest bonuses already agreed upon so this information is incomplete but based on that, it appears the Cubs can’t hang with the 6 other teams. The other 6 all have way more than $1 million in bonus space while the Cubs have approximately $650k-$1 million left (and that’s based on us only knowing Hernandez and Ballesteros’ approximate bonuses and not knowing how much other guys they’re expected to sign like Daniel Ferreira will get). Did they make any changes for next year on the amount of space that could be acquired, or is it still up to 60% of the original bonus pool? Certainly not impossible if they fall in love with the kid. You can’t trade for space in the 2021 class.

  6. Intrasquad game today: https://www.thecubreporter.com/10212020/cubs-get-long-ball-strumpf-and-wetzel-sloan-park Chase Strumpf with another homer, Jacob Wetzel hit one too and Koen Moreno got the start.
  7. He’s better than Coward or Bars.
  8. No Brayan Altuve on either roster was a bit surprising. Maybe he's stuck in Venezuela? I don’t think those are instructs rosters. It doesn’t say instructs anywhere in those links, we know a few of the players are stateside and MiLB rosters out of season tend to have inaccuracies.
  9. Good to see Clarke and McAvene are at instructs too. Today, Chase Strumpf hit an opposite field HR and Luis Vázquez went 3/3 with a double but Ed Howard IV went 0/3: https://www.thecubreporter.com/10202020/cubs-lose-strumpf-goes-deep-hohokam
  10. Eric Longenhagen also updated his board: Brennen Davis is now the 45th best prospect, Miguel Amaya 57 and Brailyn Márquez 108. At 45+ FV, Ed Howard IV and Adbert Alzolay would be in his top 163 overall. Nice to see some familiar names in box scores. If you see the responses to Bryan Smith’s tweet, it sounds like José Albertos might have gotten hurt after his one batter.
  11. Another box score from the Valley of the Sun: The https://www.thecubreporter.com/10182020/cubs-hitters-go-old-school-clutch-all-day-long-instructs Manuel Rodríguez back from his ST injury. Kevin Made made his pro debut. Ed Howard IV went 1/3 with a single. Both Morel brothers got a hit.
  12. Yesterday was the last day of this signing period. More details from Arizona Phil on those final 11 signings: https://www.thecubreporter.com/10162020/cubs-2019-20-international-signing-period-j-2-players
  13. This is from the Athletic on other pitchers at Instructs not pitching in games like Kohl Franklin and Burl Carraway: Cory Abbott is throwing because he didn’t have enough innings this summer:
  14. Mets and Dodgers amongst teams with a high scouting preference after he popped up. Not sure the Cubs have much left for a pop up guy since they have somewhere between $4.2-$5 million already set aside or Hernandez and Ballesteros and teams like the Cardinals and White Sox have a lot left for pop ups and Cuban defectors.
  15. Arizona Phil on the first Instructs game: https://www.thecubreporter.com/10152020/ed-howard-stars-cubs-rally-tie-giants-instructs In their pro debuts, Ed Howard went 1/1 with a PH double and a walk while Jordan Nwogu went 0/1 with a HBP.
  16. From top left, in clockwise order, that’s Luke Little, Koen Moreno, Jordan Nwogu and Ed Howard IV.
  17. Bryan Smith indicated there are more pitchers at instructs than on the roster. Since then we’ve seen Kohl Franklin pop up doing a bullpen while not on a roster so hopefully we hear good news on the health of some of the others: BA says it’s due to innings limits (but we’ve seen Franklin pop up since): Ben Leeper is an NDFA signed after the last draft from Oklahoma State.
  18. It’s the 21st pick. BA included Houston’s forfeited pick in their draft order. (This assumes they’ll go with 2020 record for their 2021 draft order.) MLB confirmed today that they’ll be going with reverse 2020 standings. The Cubs will pick 21st.
  19. Guess Longenhagen bumped him after the most recent KBO season.
  20. Eric Longenhagen gave him a 45 FV before the season began.
