  1. Koen Moreno has really been coming on strong recently; he's gotten the walks down since June. 5 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 6 K today.
  2. Josh Rivera also homered for South Bend
  3. With some graduations, BA has now added Owen Caissie to their top 100 prospects: 12. PCA 17. Horton 86. Shaw 99. Caissie
  4. BA’s Hot Sheet with 2 Cubs prospects: Alexander Canario the hottest prospect in all of baseball last week and Matt Shaw makes the list for the second time in three weeks.
  5. Scheduled Games (All Times Central): Iowa at Toledo, 5:35 pm Tennessee vs. Biloxi, 6:00 pm South Bend at Fort Wayne, 5:35 pm Myrtle Beach at Charleston, 6:05 pm Probable Starters: Iowa: RHP Riley Thompson (62.2 IP, 5.03 ERA, 6.14 FIP, 60 K, 40 BB) Tennessee: TBD South Bend: RHP Tyler Santana (80.2 IP, 4.13 ERA, 4.35 FIP, 70 K, 33 BB) Myrtle Beach: RHP Koen Moreno (64 IP, 2.81 ERA, 5.23 FIP, 71 K, 52 BB)
  6. I don’t think the 40-situation is that bad and with injury success stories from Alzolay, Amaya and Steele (and Canario?) and Davis’ prior highs, I can’t imagine they’re that willing to take Brennen off the 40-man this quickly.
  7. Luke Little has really come on recently. I hope he and PCA are up in the bigs by 9/1.
  8. With the complex league seasons over, we’re back to no Monday games so no thread for tomorrow.
  9. I think it’s clear defense has mattered for a while when you consider how highly PCA has ranked even when offensive questions have bubbled up and how much lower Ballesteros and Caissie are ranked considering their offensive abilities combined with ARL.
  10. Really surprised the Pirates are still pitching Skenes after 120+ innings at LSU, some of which very big time games. Doesn’t seem like many teams push their college pitchers in their draft year, especially because of the layoff between the end of the college season and when they sign.
  11. Bryant and Hoerner did it in the fall after they were drafted.
  12. Does it change anything if he gets 2-3 weeks at AA? A better assignment would be the AFL.
  13. Scheduled Games (All Times Central): Iowa at Indianapolis, 12:35 pm Tennessee at Chattanooga, 1:15 pm South Bend vs. Cedar Rapids, 1:05 pm Myrtle Beach vs. Kannapolis (resumption of game suspended on 8/26), 3:30 pm Myrtle Beach vs. Kannapolis, TBD Probable Starters: Iowa: RHP Shane Greene Tennessee: RHP Chris Kachmar South Bend: RHP Michael Arias Myrtle Beach: LHP Marino Santy
  14. Scheduled Games (All Times Central): Iowa at Indianapolis, 6:05 pm Tennessee at Chattanooga, 6:15 pm South Bend vs. Cedar Rapids, 6:05 pm Myrtle Beach vs. Kannapolis, 5:05 pm Probable Starters: Iowa: RHP Nick Neidert (94.1 IP, 5.44 ERA, 5.40 FIP, 76 K, 34 BB) Tennessee: RHP Kohl Franklin (68.2 IP, 5.50 ERA, 6.23 FIP, 66 K, 34 BB) South Bend: RHP Luis Devers (45.2 IP, 5.32 ERA, 4.84 FIP, 46 K, 27 BB) Myrtle Beach: LHP Drew Gray (19.2 IP, 5.03 ERA, 4.51 FIP, 28 K, 20 BB)
  15. So Shaw is on page for 8 homers today (unless South Bend’s pitching goes south, in which case, he’s on pace for 9 homers).
  16. Shaw and Alcántara went back-to-back
  17. Owen Caissie is back in the Tennessee lineup after missing a few games.
  18. Dannis Correa was released today.
  19. I would prefer Saturday to Sunday so Wicks is closer to his normal day and it allows Assad to get an extra day of rest.
  20. Scheduled Games (All Times Central): Iowa at Indianapolis, 6:05 pm Tennessee at Chattanooga, 6:15 pm South Bend vs. Cedar Rapids, 6:05 pm Myrtle Beach vs. Kannapolis, 6:05 pm Probable Starters: Iowa: RHP Caleb Kilian (93 IP, 3.87 ERA, 4.79 FIP, 70 K, 29 BB) Tennessee: RHP Walker Powell (99.2 IP, 3.79 ERA, 5.04 FIP, 89 K, 20 BB) South Bend: RHP Brody McCullough (28.2 IP, 4.08 ERA, 3.72 FIP, 26 K, 10 BB) Myrtle Beach: RHP Kevin Valdez (27.1 IP, 2.30 ERA, 4.29 FIP, 25 K, 18 BB)
  21. Alcántara with a double and a homer
  22. Riley Thompson is off the IL and gets the start for Iowa.
  23. Horton is second to Skenes at ESPN and BA. Fourth according to Pipeline with Harrison and Painter ahead of him too. I think Misiorowski is the only other name I would even entertain right now. That said, Harrison is already in the majors and Painter's complicated injury year + TJS would put him behind Horton for me too.
