  1. Shocking that Phil Rogers would do that. And I'm with you, abuck.
  2. Sorry for the delay, I just got home... Iowa: LHP Rich Hill (3-1, 3.90) vs. RHP Shawn Camp (3-6, 4.36) West Tenn: ? Daytona: RHP Alfredo Polanco Peoria: RHP Grant Johnson vs. RH Patrick Hicklen Boise: RHP Mitch Atkins
  3. Or the ump for calling Lee out (correctly). I don't like Prior out for the 8th. Nice catch by Walker.
  4. Geez, Derrek is awful strong to hit that one that far with that swing. Nice SB. Let's go, Aramis.
  5. Blanco changed his number from 9 to 24. So it's painfully obvious to anyone that knows anything that a trade for another 9 is in the works. Duh. Or Todd Hundley is coming back. :o
  6. Lets hope someone hits a HR so he doesn't have to run through people again. Feel free to use this power again. And often.
  7. I like to think I stay pretty up-to-date with our minor leaguers, and remember most names from the past....but Gissell, this one I am clueless. What is his background and the link to the Cubs? Looks like he has some respectable numbers there for Memphis (I like the ERA and 3/1 K/BB ratio) Chris was a Cubs 4th round pick out of HS in 1996 who was thought of pretty highly in the late '90s (he cracked #3 in BA's top 10 Cubs list in 1999 or 2000). I guess he's about 27 now. Gissell started the AAA all star game for the PCL. It appears he's maxing out at around 87 mph these days (he was hitting 94-95 when he was a Cubs prospect).
  8. Thanks for dropping it, guys. C'mon, Prior.
  9. C'mon Aramis/Neifi/Matt, better defense please.
  10. This is the same pitching matchup they had last Saturday (Chiefs won). The 89-pitch CG 2-0 loss that Weber had earlier this year was against the Bees. Eric Patterson is back to the MWL lead in average (.341), 3rd in OBP (.415) and 3rd in SBs (28). You know, you're the Fred Hornkohl of Peoria games. :P
  11. He'll probably be up in September, like Truffle said, but I think he'll stick in the big leagues after that. He's definitely going to be better than his brother. Depending on who you talk to, he's either the best or second best prospect in the whole game (behind Seattle's Felix Hernandez).
  12. Iowa: TBA - LHP Rich Hill makes sense Daytona: RHP Anderson Tavarez (3-8, 5.68 ERA) vs. RHP Jason Jones (5-7, 4.48 ERA) Peoria: RHP Matt Weber vs. RHP Patrick Green Boise: RHP Mike Billek vs. RHP Zach Simons -> Billek = 2005 3rd rounder Mesa: probably LHP Mark Pawelek (0-2, 0.00 ERA)
  13. Brian posted West Tenn's all stars. Daytona had LHP Sean Marshall, RHP Carlos Marmol, RHRP Randy Wells (who missed the game because he was at West Tenn), CF Chris Walker and 3B Scott Moore at the FSL all star game. Peoria had RHP Sean Gallagher (starter), RHP Matt Weber, LHP Chris Shaver, 2B Eric Patterson (starter), RF Ryan Harvey (starter) and 1B Alberto Garcia (starter, injured) at the MWL all star game.
  14. I'd do it, but Bowden wouldn't suggest it. We'd still need to improve the rest of our OF, though.
  15. Lambert's not a bad prospect. If I were SF or Philly, I'd want one of Reyes/Wainwright in return for Schmidt or Wagner, but I expect Jocketty would balk at that.
  16. The good ones can do it on accident. He can't do it if he tries. The point is he doesn't have the physical strenght or the discipline to hit a ball hard on the outside corner and drive it deep. I dont know how you can say he doesnt have the strength for it. He's the strongest guy on the team, upper body strength wise, he just doesnt have the swing or discipline to go the other way. I agree Corey's main problem is discipline---and I would add to that his bat speed needs to improve, or at least the length of his swing (it's just too long & loopy). But there's no way in hell Corey possesses more upper body strength than Derek Lee & ARam. Corey's a pretty strong kid for his size, but he's not in Lee or Ramirez's class strength-wise. I read an article last season that said that Corey has the highest bench press of any Cub. He's ridiculously strong. This isnt even the point however, people dont hit a lot of homeruns because of their strong upper body. Corey benches 350, per Vin Scully.
  17. So what does booing your own player accomplish? And why is it that Corey gets booed but a player who has been just as bad, Neifi, avoids it?
  18. I don't expect either to play in any Mesa games before going to Iowa. They're in Mesa for instruction and BP. Ok, that makes sense.
  19. That's not necessarily true. Corey didn't concentrate exclusively on baseball until his senior year in HS (he was a highly thought of football player too). You can't know that Corey knew more nuances at age 20 than Corey, especially given that Felix at age 20 has made full-season stops at Mesa, Lansing and Daytona and a half season at West Tenn, while Corey got a year at Lansing and 2/3 of a year at West Tenn. And Corey sure changed his swing this offseason (which has resulted in some of his added problems this season) - I really don't know why you say he's an old dog who can't learn new tricks.
