If he signs with any team besides the Dodgers or Padres, that team will have to back out of their 2025 handshake agreements (the Dodgers aren't linked to any of the top 50 bonuses in 2025 and the Padres are only linked to the 47th biggest bonus in the class).
BA just had a new update and their 34th ranked IFA prospect - Juan Tomas, SS, Dominican Republic - has flipped from the Marlins to the Cubs due to the staffing changes in the Marlins international scouting department. BA also has him designated as a "trending up" player who has generated more positive buzz than his bonus might indicate. MLB Pipeline doesn't have Tomas ranked in their top 50.
Incidentally, BA has dropped every IFA's prospect ranking down 1 after adding Rōki Sasaki at 1 so Wilfri de la Cruz is now 10th. Juan Cabada actually fell two spots to 24th due to the addition of Japanese SS/RHP Shotaro Morii to the rankings at 23 (he's going to the A's).
The Cubs also lost RHP Ángel González and OF Jacob Wetzel in the minor league portion of the Rule 5 Draft.
They added RHP Will Jensen, RHP Nolan Clenney and RHP Robert Kwiatkowski.
The problem is they’re 15-16 now and we only ever universally know a very few prep guys at that age so it’s so tough to truly compare.
For example, Moisés Ballesteros is at AAA and would be draft eligible college aged in the 2025 draft.
Pipeline has Cabada 9 in this writeup, ahead of de La Cruz at 12. (Piepline ranks by prospect’s future ability, unlike BA.)
Pipeline is free so let me post their writeup:

The Cubs are expected to sign two top-30 bonuses (BA ranks IFAs by bonus amount):
9. Wilfri de la Cruz, SS, Dominican Republic
22. Juan Cabada, SS, Dominican Republic
Pedro Strop’s son is signing with St Louis.
Overall, the Cubs’ farm is 2nd in 90th EV, 24th in Contact %, 14th in Chase % and 4th in Barrel %. BA combined and weighted all of those to rank the Cubs’ farm 11th overall. Detroit is 1st in the combined weighting.
Other notes from Pontes’ chat:
Long is likely the Cubs #11 prospect
Will Sanders and Erian Rodríguez are the next two pitching prospects on the list.
Drew Gray and Brody McCullough have great FB shape but are lacking in velocity
Cristian Hernández’ reports and data are trending up while the Fernando Cruz reports are trending down
Added screenshots of questions and answers about Ty Southisene/Eli Lovich and Pedro Ramírez
They did. The correct answer is probably Ed Howard but they did make note that Triantos’ defense improved tremendously this season, especially because of mechanics and footwork. I wouldn’t be shocked if it also helped that he’s another season removed from knee surgery and his SB numbers back up his athleticism.
(Also the Cubs upgraded BA writers, going from Glaser who *hated* Triantos - to Geoff Pontes.)
