  1. Both could be done at the same time. Multitasking!
  2. Also traded for Nomar. Although we don't still have him, he qualifies under this category. Even Lofton to an extent, even though he was clearly just a rental player.
  3. Well without looking at the stats of hits to runs, I can tell you it has nothing to do with bad luck. Our pitching staff just walks too many guys.
  4. I don't know about 2008, but I say Barck Obama in 2012. 2008 will be my first chance to vote in a presidential election. I'm looking forward to it at this point, but am still very undecided on many important issues.

  6. I thought he was solid at catcher defensively? He certainly doesn't have the bat for 1B even if he couldn't handle catcher defensively. Any speculation or explanation on this move? Rick was solid defensively as catcher, but Jake Muyco, for instance, was much better than solid defensively, so there may not be room for him in the system any longer as a catcher. However, with Craig and Norwood at first, that move seems equally questionable, so not exactly sure what's up with this. Rick has guys like Soto, Reyes, Richie and Fox are ahead of him with guys like Robinson, Muyco, Reed, Canepa and Mercedes behind him. Apparently he is going to be the odd man out in the catcher situation. In terms of his bat, he had a red hot second half and was batting fifth a lot for Daytona in August. Was there any reported change in his swing that would lead to believe he has turned the corner, or are we hoping he just "got it"and will continue to hit well?
  7. If you trade for Ichiro there is the possibility that he is a one year rental. We could have to give up some good prospects for him. Is that worth it? Maybe he'd work out an extension, but do we want to give an extension to a 33 year old OF who will demand big bucks?
  8. That's actually not a good thing. Right. Except i meant to say .020 Stupid decimal places. I always mess up some mundane detail like that. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v313/snetsrak43/bolton.jpg

  10. I'm more afraid of the number of picks the Cubs will lose. Again. Well I guess that depends how they approach this offseason. If we try to make a bunch of FA signings in a weak attempt to win next year, we could lose some. I'd really be in favor of trying a quick "rebuild" where we accept some mediocracy next year in hopes of making a stronger effort in 2008. Also even if we did go after some FAs that cost us picks it could turn out like: Gain bottom 15 first rounder and supp. for Pierre Lose a 2nd and 3rd rounder for OF and P We have the same number of picks, just make the first three within the first 40ish picks ,instead of top 70-80.
  11. I was about to celebrate because I thought out meant cut... I agree, hope this isn't too serious.
  12. I hope its around and we get some picks for Pierre.
  13. I wonder if Fox could be a utility type player in the future? Spend some time at catcher backing up the starter while bouncing around OF,3B,1B other times. An good comparison is Craig Wilson who played 21 games at catcher in 2003 while also playin games at 1B and OF. Lookng at Wilson's career numbers, they aren't out of the possibility for Fox, though he would likely have to have a higher BA to sustain the OBP. Best case scenario is that he works on his weaknesses and becomes a full time catcher, but if he still doesnt have it down in a few years, then you could test him out elsewhere.
  14. You want to count on Roinson being catcher over Fox because of 12 hot games for Daytona?
  15. I'd do one year, heavy on incentives, with a team and/or player option. One year of him could bridge nicely to Pie.
  16. Best Part.
  17. While the early results are not promising, it is too soon judge him as 4th outfielder already.
  18. Who's Harry?
  19. Any of those ground rule doubles?
  20. Right thats what I was thinking. I am hoping this year we pick a hitter with our first pick. I realize a lot of this is moot if we don't change the philosophy within the system of walks are bad. that goes right down to the draft - hopefully the cubs pick some hitters with baseball skills and not just tools. If we got the right instructors that teach a better baseball philosophy wouldn't it make more sense to go for tools in many cases because you could teach them the baseball skills? With our philosophy the way it is now, I would want the guys with baseball skills because we know they wont learn it through the system. A guy with good tools who is taught good baseball skills seems more valuable than a guy who has good baseball skills and is taught more good baseball skills.
  21. A Theriot/Fontenot comparison: http://thebaseballcube.com/players/F/Mike-Fontenot.shtml http://thebaseballcube.com/players/T/Ryan-Theriot.shtml Both will likely be solid bench players. Let them both split time next year and we could find out who the better one will be and stick with it. We likely can't keep both unless one emerges as a starter.
  22. He could be just as good if not better than Theriot and we are giving him a chance. I'd like to see them split time at 2B next year unlesss you are planning to make a big upgrade like Soriano.
  23. Well there is nothin wrong with letting Moore play so you know what you have, but if he decides he can go with Moore over Aram because of a month of play, thats crazy. If Hendry decides he could go with Moore than it better be a complete youth movement. That means trading away Lee, Barrett, and Jones, and collecting draft compensation for Pierre. Zambrano is the wild card. He is still young enough to be a part of a youth movement, but if someone wildly overpays...
  24. I was gonna start a similar thread with the title "Is Hendry stupid enough to..."
  25. I'm not sure I totally agree with your list either as far as who willbe left unprotected. I would like it, but I don't expect all those guys to be left off, most notably Bynum and Rusch. And also Novoa. I think we may see some of the Marmol/Mateo/Guzman group dealt off in a Juan Pierre like deal this offseason.
