Trestman took a definite stand of support for his staff. Unless it comes from above him I'd be shocked any change is made. And I joked about it, but I'm still about 70% sure Williams return was related only to exhaustion and disinterest. I don't think Trestman will be given a choice. My guess is ownership will be leaning fairly hard on Emery, and as we know, isht runs down hill. This isn't a Jerry Jones ownership. They're extremely hands off. Based solely on NFL precedent week 15 or so would seem to be the sweet spot to expect change.

Well from Trestman's perspective, the potential net gain to his job security from his team scoring some garbage time points is not worth the potential disaster of one of his highly paid offensive stars suffering a serious injury during meaningless football. What's the disaster if Marshall has a hammy or twisted ankle or whatever? So what if he misses a couple weeks? Or hell, the season. There's nothing to protect him for. I don't think it's a big deal to leave in the starters but it could definitely end up worse than a hammy. An ACL tear impacts most of your offseason unless you're Adrian Peterson. It might be a fluke, but character comes into play when evaluating FA moves, and houston has been a bonehead since he got here, getting into multiple fights with teammates, calling out the fans on twitter, and then the aforementioned injury in garbage time. He's been GM for 3 years and this team is awful. It's pretty clear he has not been good. He's largely done well with talent composition IMO. He inherited an aging defensive team and outside of his first draft where he still managed to draft a pro-bowl caliber WR, I think has done well drafting. His only real bad FA signing to this point is JA. And his one trade was great At this juncture his coaching decisions have completely undermined those things(literally half of today's scores can be linked directly to coaching not talent). So yes he's been bad, but I don't think it's unreasonable if you liked him at first you'd give him a shot to correct this current existing weakness. If we're comparing him to Hendry though I think Hendry actually had the ability to set the franchise back beyond his tenure. Of course, that is also only true if you stupidly believe the Cubs roster couldn't have been better the last 3 years if somebody actually tried to make them better. Hendry didn't set the team back. He failed to win enough when they were capable of winning. He has nothing to do with the past 3 years. I think Hendrys reign had a definite impact in year one. But you are right in that it's apples to oranges to compare MLB to NFL. Bottom line I think it's a toss up with Phillips next hire so I don't hate the idea of giving Emery another coaching hire (if he wants, he can go down with Trestman if he wants I guess). I think he'll get us another good draft class next year and if that's the worst case scenario I'll take that and the coin flip on Emery fixing coaching vs Phillips redoing everything.
