  1. Nice landing spot for McCarthy. Prescott isn't Rodgers, but this is the most ready-made spot of the vacancies.
  2. They don't need to, his contract is up. Cowboys headquarters next training camp
  3. Tannehil signed for 1 year 2M. If that's the contract Mariota takes, I'd be down. Edit-nevermind it was a trade where they restructured the last year of his deal, not a FA signing. 1/2 was the Titan's cap hit though. Any targets like that? Edit 2- Cam Newton on a renegotiated final year that's incentive based with a few mil guarantees? Would Carolina do it for one of the 5th's and a 6/7 swap?
  4. Yea, there also seems to be Buzz about Ragone being in line for a promotion, which seems crazy. I don't know what that supposed to says about Mitch if they think Ragone has actually helped improve his play. Castillo - OL coach/Run Coordinator Ragone - QB Coach/Pass Game coordinator New TE coach. Just numbers wise you'd be down 1 coach, and could just grab some other type of specialist. Maybe an assistant QB coach or just "Special Assistant". Does he wear a visor?
  5. Dalton? Do not believe he's upgrade over Mitch more of lateral move, I believe Nagy' got work with the QB he has. To that end they've got to improve the OL and run blocking, be a run first team in 2020, it's the only scheme in which Mitch is going to have success. I'd think the so-called offensive genius Nagy could figure something out. Dalton only makes some sense if he's taking a big pay cut, and then its more appropriate to think of him as a Daniel replacement. Ideally you want someone to push Mitch, even though a clear cut improvement probably isn't realistic between available cap and available FA.

  7. On the other hand, this could be a great example of this dance discussed yesterday. Whatever portion o Jackson's extension is a signing bonus gets prorated over 5 years, including 2020 now. So the Fuller restructure opens up some cap to extend Jackson now, which in turn makes Jackson's 2021-2024 hits slightly lower. The pro is you lock in Jackson now instead of whatever 2021 brings (which I think is after another new TV deal?). The risk of course being Jackson being injured or that his down year wasn't fluky and his early success was mostly just random bounce of the ball that led to a high number of picks and points off those picks.
  8. I have a bad feeling about this one. Fun not fun fact. He's the only S on the roster right now.
  9. The saga ends. Still a seemingly tame firing season with just 5 head coaches and 2 GMs fired. With one of those vacancied already filled.
  10. Either way I'm cheering for the Ravens so i can make several hundred jokes about Lamar Jackson playing WR.
  11. With a raising cap, its impact is definitely lessened to a degree. They are still in a pretty overall healthy cap situation and one or two of those isn't going to be a killer. Some of its just a guarantee/non-guarantee dance, and some of the space you created now could be for non-guarantees in future years which won't ever hit that cap unless the player is still productive and worth that cap. Also, with cap rollovers its also sometimes a "six of one, half a dozen of the other" scenario. Of course, if you're just really just 100% done with this team, any of that is bad. You want to do the exact opposite and no amount of backloading is reasonable. Most of this is true, but you can’t convert guaranteed money into non-guaranteed. The total cap hit remains constant (or goes up if you add guarantees), it just moves around in time. I guess it would technically have to be an extension rather than a restucture, but you could definitely backend some new non-guarantees you never intend to pay for a smaller new guarantee as a cap-cash trade off. That would be more the guaranteed-non-guarantee dance. In Fuller's case it is all timing. FWIW though, based on the article I read, I think it will only net them 4.5M in new space. The new bonus goes back to 2019, which will reduce their rollover by the pro-rated 1.5M in new 2019 guarantees.
  12. can't they pretty much do this cap dance indefinitely? there's always somewhere to go. 13. A blog or two on my news feed are throwing his name around as a top of the list candidate. That would be a pretty fast rise... 1 year at quality control coach, 2 years as QB coach with what seems to be a generational quarterback, and then OC. The relative lack of experience compared to Shurmur and others is cause for concern, but he'd definitely be on the same page as Nagy. It's sounding like he wants nothing but Reid deciples this time around. I wonder what effect (good or bad) grabbing helfrich and hiestand from outside that tree/system had on what they were trying to do offensively Chief fans are already calling him, the heir apparent to Reid haha. First Bieniemy's situation has to get settled. He's already got 2 interviews lined up.
  14. He's a safe pick for Nagy given their history. I would have preferred Callahan (Wash) or Matsko (Car). Yeah safe but competent works in this case. I too wouldve preferred those other 2. Could still bring in one of those guys as OC?
  15. Could do worse. Could do better. No one seems more logical that Shurmur if not for the fact that it doesn't seem like Nagy is going to give up play calling. I wonder how much Nagy will prioritize the West coast/zone blocking schemes. Could he go college again? Chasing the RPO concepts Helfrich was supposedly hired to incorporate?
  16. You don't think they should field questions about those firings? Nah.
  17. Come on, there's no benefit to anyone to let those firings leak before the PC. Who gives a damn.
  18. The tough thing about getting a highly regarded OC is that it doesnt seem like Nagy is going to relinquish playcalling duties, based on what was said in the press conference today. That has to knock the desirability of the job down a peg. I don't think those guys are going to be too highly regarded. They actually seem attainable, whether it's Turner and his assistants or just poaching a few assistants. Their OL/run coordinator and TE coach have like 50+ years experience, and aren't going to be getting prime positions if not brought over with Chico. Honestly they could probably do worse than hitting up the WAS and CLE staffs too. So they should be able to do decent with FA coach hires and not be as reliant on rejected interview requests from current staffs.
  19. https://www.cleveland.com/browns/2019/12/browns-gm-john-dorsey-and-browns-leaning-toward-parting-ways-meeting-with-jimmy-haslam-today-reports-say.html Dorsey out in CLE. Wouldn't take a diminished role. Sounds like Depodestas influence will be raised a bit. Wonder if they'll go with a Carrol/Belicheck type role and the HC will be head of football ops.
  20. Caldwell/Marrone safe in Jax. I imagine news will leak soon enough on Garrett. He was supposed to be meeting with Jones again around now.
  21. If not Shurmur, hitting up the old Carolina offensive coaching staff might not be a bad idea, if Rivera doesn't bring them over to WAS. Obviously having McCaffrey helps, but theyve been pretty good running the ball the past several years and have a lot of NFL experience on that staff.
  22. Heistand is a bit surprising just because his reputation was so good. But its hard to see the OL play and not say there was an issue. Interesting that the one tweet says Helfrich and Heistand were "in charge of running". Wonder if theyll look at OL coaches brought in as OC/Run game coordinator and either amp up Childress' role or bring in another type of special coaching assistant. No news on Ragone? Also, I'm not sure the WR should be back based on some of the issues the WR, but I guess Nagy won't fire his whole offensive staff.
  23. Eh, it's been boilerplate press conference nonsense. People calling it awful are probably the ones who burn jerseys and post it to social media.
  24. AFC ----- Ravens (+249) Chiefs (+143) Patriots (+195) Texans (-7) Bills (+55) Titans (+77) Every non-playoff team had a negative point diff. -------------------------- NFC ------ 49ers (+169) Saints (+117) Packers (+63) Eagles (+31) Vikings (+104) Seahawks (+7) In the "WTF happened?" category, the 8-8 Cowboys were +113 Two non-playoff teams were positive (Bucs and Rams) All those years Jerry stuck with his guy Garrett, and now good chance he's going to dump him based on a fluky down W-L record.
  25. That would be dumb. Rehabbing for 3 years to earn that money is smart. I thought he was rehabbing so he could walk again All that money will help towards a lifetime of surgeries and/or pain pills and/or bionic legs
