Nagy isn't the coach, and I think that means a whole turnover is needed unfortunately. I just doubt it's gonna happen this offseason. Basically every iteration of the Phillips/George McCaskey leadership has failed. Next one should just be handing the keys to the biggest college coach you can get ala the Pete Carroll model (ideally a guy with pro experience, obviously).

With what draft pick? 2 2nd rounders Yea, left out the (now 2) top guys who will certainly be gone in the first. Tuas draft stock being killed certainly hurts though, could push up the other guys.

Mitch must be really horsefeathering up beyond what the TV cameras show. Whether its missed guys the screen doesn't show or just awful adjustments at the line. Because he hasn't played well, but this wasnt a "bench your starter" performance or game situation.

Also I'm obviously okay without 2B tax payer subsidized stadiums, but the soldier field reno also used 400M+ of public subsidies so its not as if they're ahead on that count.

Definitely something wrong with Soldier Field, but its not cursed. What a dumb and waste of a renovation. And now the cool spots in the city they could have taken OVER 30 years ago are developed. CAN WE JUST GET THE ROSEMONT/BRIDGEVIEW/SCHAUMBURG/ARLINGTON HEIGHTS/WHEREVER BEARS AT PNC BANK STADIUM ALREADY?

Eh, even if the Lions lucked into a SB, as far as propping up fandoms with 1 team the 85 Bears is so much greater than anything the Lions could pull off. Though they'd have recency in their favor (for all the millenials like me not even alive for 85). You were one off on DET by the way 14. Although that particular metric doesn't show how poorly Detroit has managed at being anything above mildly above average, as once you get to 10 wins they drop off a cliff where the Bears managed to actually be legitimately good and not 9-7 good many times. Also the flip side where you look up 11+ loss seasons show how good/bad Detroit is at pounding the bottom end of that spectrum including 0-16 and a couple 2 win campaigns. Or just look up the cumulative W-L. 0.484 verse 0.420. God I can't believe I spent all that time to prove "At Least We're Not Detroit"! "

At least our owner is like 100 years old and there's hope of no proper family succession planning (with a slight reliance on NFL rules about family ownership structures and having majority owners).

this spelling was so bad that it actually made me forget how to spell it. speaking of, what is the realistic drop off from Danny to White Nick? WN passes the eye test, he shows up when he plays and seems like he makes more plays then Danny. Is it WN's pass coverage thats so terrifying? Seems like when White Nick plays they do more situational substitutions in obvious passer downs with Pierre Louis coming in. Against MIN where Smith missed it was 34/23 with White Nick and Frenchy. And Frenchy got a few more plays last week, which is then the extent of his D snaps this year. If Smith can be a consistently high level player, that combo is probably enough from your ILB unit. If he's not, Danny will be missed sorely.

Jay Cutler dropped dimes like that all the time (and played with many bad OLines so got the opportunity a lot). Yet he was just an average QB because he wasn't consistent and could as easy throw up multi turnover games, including 4, 5 pick games. Jay had 12 3+ INT games in 153 career starts. 7% of his starts! Sam has 4 such games through 19 starts. 22%! Jay threw 160 INT. 1.045 per game. Sam has thrown 24. 1.29 per game. Here's some really QBs who can/could also throw the occasional dimes and the rate at which they had 3+ INT games Mahomes 1/25 Rodgers 4/175 Brady 8/278 P. Manning 20/266 Brees 18/268 Take it down a caliber Rivers 11/222 Roethlisberger 13/218 Ryan 10/182 Stafford 12/149 Historical comparisons? Favre (the gunslinger in a era of more ints) 39/302 On Sam's side is his youth and that he can perhaps escape from the career death trap that is the NYJ (and I say that cuz I know what one looks like as a Bears fan) . Then perhaps he can be more average like Eli Manning who still loved throwing pics and was very very average, but won a couple SB!

It really just depends to what end. I could totally be convinced that blowing the load on Clowney with a combo of a backloaded contract and cutting Floyd would be worth it after seeing how this D has played without Hicks as the second big star to take focus off Mack. Or if one of the top 3 QBs actually became available, they'd probably be worth whatever downgrading you'd need to make elsewhere to make it happen. They'll have *options* though. And yea, it's obvious a uphill battle no matter what, but they can make a last swing this year on the window, and then will have plenty of opportunity to shed contracts and collect picks the next year when that last swing inevitably fails. Or Pace will trade 2021's first on someone he has conviction for (but kind of definitely will end up stinking). But he's gonna hit big time on the 4th Rd comp pick he just scored for Amos.

Damn, you did get White Nick's name right. Still, the little joys like having White Nick and Black Nick make it way more fun then ever having to double check his spelling. RE, the first point, I believe that would make Daniel insignificant. Personally I'd rather see them go cheap/higher upside route. Maybe Sudfeld from PHI, Cooper Rush (DAL). Hell, even Driskel from DET would be more interesting than Daniel. Also, it actually seems like there will be some interesting Rd 2 QB names. Hurts, Fromm, Eason could all be day 2 picks that provide varying levels of upside. All different types of QBs which adds to the intrigue. Hurts as th electrifying runner, Eason, your prototypical toolsy QB with a rocket arm. Fromm the experienced, credentialed QB, but with the least physical upside. Basically I say go as cheap as you can at shoring up the QB spot and double down on "the plan" as it was 18 months ago: putting as many resources as you can into a dominating D and winning on a cheap rookie QB contract. Worst case scenario it blows up and you tanked for Trevor Lawrence. No solace in Chase Daniel saving the Bears from a 13 loss season with a 10 loss season instead.

Also re: FA, White Nick has a chance to show he can make Danny expendable. He won't be as good as him, but should be cheaper (along with a decent 3rd ILB who can cover some of the more obvious passing downs). The two games he's seen significant action this year have been promising. Other cap clearing possibilities: Gabriel or Patterson could create some space and they aren't utilizing the WR depth they have anyways. On the other hand, they both add speed our WR Corp is otherwise missing. Prince or Fuller could save space, but you'll probably pay just the same on the open market unless you feel like rolling the dice cheaper. Unlike WR, they haven't done too much development via the draft (just some UDFAs). There may be also some opportunities for some roster bonus conversion shenanigans. Oh and it hurts to say, but Floyd hasn't quite shown he deserves 13M and that's only guaranteed for injury. Sadly Leno, all of 3M savings cutting him provides, might actually be a better use of space. And finally sending Shaheen packing picks up a sweet 1.2M. That's gotta be like 1/3 of our draft class paid for right there!

I get my Bears doom boner jollies looking in other direction right now. After they cut Kyle Long, they'll have $21m in cap space. Their important UFAs are Clinton-Dix, Treviathon, Kwiatkoski and Daniel. No first-round pick. That's basically enough cap room to sign their draft picks and replace the guys they're losing, and that's it. And that's assuming they hit on the second-rounders and get guys who can be useful right away. It will cost them all their offseason resources just get back to this turd of a team, except a year older. 2/4 on spelling their UFAs names, not bad. Also Daniel is not important. Next time keep it simple though. There's Danny and Ha Ha. Next up is White Nick and Black Nick. Other minor FA include Lynch, Bush, RRH and Coward (latter 2 RFA).

I mean, with the success rate of QBs you can just hate every pick and look like you know what you're talking about most of the time. When it's the Bears, you're even safer.

Remember that Cian Fahey article that raved about how otherwordly accurate he was too? Was that the one about how shocked his teammates were at practice whenever he threw an incompletion? I don't know if I'd rather have it be that Pace and co just whiffed terribly or that there is a literal curse at Halas Hall that destroys QBs.

Thanks for the trip back. I'm pretty happy with my draft day knee jerk analysis all things considered. Crazy to read the reviews of Trubisky's strengths of footwork and reading progressions. Nbd, just missed on his biggest weaknesses by calling them his biggest strengths.

Maybe he can be the superstar they so desperately need. Or he got really hot one night. Also, lol at like all of RralGM wanting to replace Boylen with Roy Williams.
